WOW MORE HETALIA SECRETS I'M SO SHOCKED.
this is getting ridiculous, really guys.
think of something else to get offended by or whatever your feelings about it are.

132

[identity profile] viedma.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I lol'd. Damn, Supernatural fen really need to raise their standards-- they'll be humping guys in service stations next.

[identity profile] snowyalyeska.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
MAYBE TOMORROW IT'LL ONLY BE THREE!!
but watch it'll probably be eight.

108. It's morons like this who shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. Honestly, if you're going to give away your virginity to a guy you don't even know because he looks like an anime character, then you really have no idea what the fuck you're doing.

116. Ooh. Hallo thar, tiny secret.

147. Keep your Phoenix Wright characters. Give me more secrets with The Pale Man.

[identity profile] allodole.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
137. I never can understand why someone gets annoyed over any series at all. I, for one, should be damn offended by how Hetalia portrays my country as a useless, whiny little shit, even though we always like to think it's a SHE not a HE and powerful woman at that, but nooo. I don't really care and most of us don't really care. Our little Finland is cute and so is Northern Italy.

No offence, OP, really, but please, I think it's just kind of ridiculous to get so angry over a series.

143. much love for Kuroshitsuji and it's endless wardrobe! (Honestly, the only thing why I bother to read it (apart from some characters) are those clothes.)

118, 133

[identity profile] justspaz.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
118- So all I know about Hetalia is what's on here so I'm not commenting on the nature of the comic. All I'm saying is that I'm glad Hungary looks that kickass, because despite my cultural mutt-ness, I'm mostly Hungarian and proud of that. Or something.

133- Whatever the hell you are talking about, I'd like to add my thanks for the shirtless Peter. Mm.

131, 141

(Anonymous) 2009-01-01 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
131. Heh, I think so too, actually, and this is why.

I used to work at a literary magazine that published around 5 short fiction pieces each issue, and I was one of the people who read through the submissions and chose what was published and what was crap. Out of everything we read, MAYBE 2% were actually put in the magazine, and out of the handful that we published, I could maybe say 3 manuscripts in all the time I worked there really caught my eye as well-written enough to get "actually" published (as in in something other than a magazine). All of these people submitting these pieces were "serious" writers, serious enough to submit their work to a magazine and other publishers. Also, almost all of the people working with me were English/Creative writing majors, and so it was only natural that we traded our works around with each other. NOT ONCE did I find something a coworker handed me publish-able; most of it was cliche sci-fi/fantasy, written with British-sounding jargon when it didn't need to be (we're American...), or very overly stylized. And yes, you guessed it, most of my coworkers knew what "fandom" meant, and would sit in the reading room talking about anime, Harry Potter, etc. half of the damn time. (I'm obvs into fandom as well, being on f!s, but not very seriously, and I hate anime.) So yeah, I really don't have any hope for what I usually see.

(tl;dr, I know X) )

(And I'm posting anonymously because several people on my flist are trying to get published, and I know go to f!s...)

141. And liking anime, video games, and other things that create fandom are any more "intellectual"? They may sometimes have deeper storylines, but people in general don't see them as such. I like most of the shows in this secret just fine, and I don't consider myself dumb.

(OP)

(Anonymous) 2009-01-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, can't edit anonymous comments...

Really what I'm trying to say about 141 is that it's okay to like something even if it isn't intellectual...a lot of "nerdy" things are just as silly to me as the things you mentioned seem to be to you, so no-one's really winning here.

[identity profile] oh-ella.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 05:48 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] uozlulu.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
148. I love Anzu too :o I always like the characters like her that fandom hates pretty much because they're standing in the way of their slash pairing de jour.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
101) LOL and in a few years you'll be ashamed of your current behavior. Seriously, this oversensitivity to what other people do is a stage you'll grow out of. Thank god.

108) Or more likely he just wanted free sex with no relationship attached, nothing to do with your looks, and now that he's had you, he's moved on. And since you are only interested in him for equally superficial reasons, it's probably just as well.

112) Don't. The humiliation isn't worth it. I'm so glad that cop let us off with a warning.

114) Dude. Rimmer is a prick. A handsome prick but a prick all the same.

131) You never know. Why not dream big?

151) Who the heck cares what fandom thinks. Read it. It's good. Fandom is not an exclusive club, and any fandom that chases people away from the canon they love are doing their canon a disservice.

114 OP here

(Anonymous) 2009-01-01 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know.
When I was in my mid-teens, I was a clueless prick too. It made me feel better knowing I wasn't alone, though.

I'm a nicer person now. I just keep the hair, out of habit.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
114. RIMMER. ♥
135. Okami is utterly fantastic, and I'm replaying it as soon as I finish replaying TP!
141. And none of the shows watched primarily by men are non-intellectual?
151. There are lots of people who are thrilled to see more people introduced to Watchmen!

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
101. So you make fun of kids for being kids in a way that will probably grow out of it, and you're ashamed of having once been a kid now that you've grown out of it. You sound like a class act.

104. I love Soul/Maka and Maka/Chrona and SO MANY OTHERS but ashfafj I thought I was alone in wanting that pairing and was totally afraid to mention it. o____o Thank you for this secret, seriously.

109. I totally just read that banner as reading "AXIS POWERS AgIJP." :|

118. Don't be worried, hon. Even with all the wank, as far as I'm seeing 99% - 100% of it happens here on F!S. And anyone who hates you, bashes you, or loses respect for you over whether or not you like a webcomic-turned-manga probably isn't worth it, anyway.

121. It's not really any weirder than basing it off of anything else people base their hair, clothes, personal styles, etcetera off of. Is it so much more mature to select a look out of one of those books sitting around in the hair salon filled with models showing off specific hairstyles? :/ What's accepted and what's not when it comes to these things always confuses me.

126. ... That picture is fucking amazing brb looking this up now.

131. So basically... you're laughing at the fact that people have hopes and dreams? Fuck off. Maybe you either think YOU'RE so perfect that you'll achieve anything you set out to do, but all of these lesser people are simply fooling themselves, or you actually have no dreams of your own as to what you want to accomplish with your life, but one good thing for a writer to do, besides writing ALL THE TIME to keep in practice and improve? IS TO BELIEVE THAT IF THEY WORK AT IT THEY CAN GET PUBLISHED. Why the fuck do you think authors ever SEND THEIR BOOKS OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Seriously, you're a dumbass. Keep right on giggling while people who actually have the balls to try work to accomplish what they want out of life.

And you know what?

I'm writing a book. I WILL get published. It may take a LOT of time and effort, but I will. And, like every author, I hope that people like it. Maybe not enough to have a fandom! But that people enjoy what I've produced, because it's not worth much otherwise. And if it does have fandom? I'm taking a look at that, because man, that'd be the biggest blast ever!

So go ahead and get your giggles, OP. I'll make sure to celebrate all over Livejournal when it happens. (:

132. Oh no, you judge people who may or may not like that character, but who cares if they actually do personally, because they're in the fandom at all, because you do not happen to like him. Whatever shall you or anyone do.

133. Wait, what? A lover is just someone you're having sex with, isn't it? Maybe they don't feel like writing "fuck buddy" or "mate" or something.

134. For one thing, that pairing exists?! ... I shouldn't even be surprised, should I. I thought the Silent Hill slash would be, like. Kaufmann/Harry, Pyramid Head/James, and Victor/Henry, or something.

For another thing, you're calling James misogynistic what the hell. No, seriously, THE HELL. Please tell me you did not actually play the game. Fucked up, yes. Grew a bit INSANE and to hate his wife and kill her? Also yes! Regretted it and spent the game trying to help EVERYONE, including Mary, Maria, Angela, EVEN FUCKING LAURA WHO I WANTED TO KICK IN THE FACE THE WHOLE GAME, even Eddie (included even though he's not a woman)? Also: FUCK YES.

What the hell, he went as insane as his wife did, if you actually pay attention to the flashbacks. Does it excuse him murdering her? Hell no. But you might want to replay the game and actually pay attention this time because just... misogynistic what the fuck.

... I sound much angrier than I am. XD NO SERIOUSLY I AM JUST. Gobsmacked. Misogynistic is a new one!

131

(Anonymous) 2009-01-01 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
I work in the publishing industry, and I'll give you a bit of advice. Try and get an agent for yourself before sending manuscripts to publishers. Not only will they get you the best deal possible (because it's in their interests too) but publishers take submissions from agents so much more seriously.

135. God I hate that people feel the need to put "I'M NOT A FURRY, BUT..." all the time nowadays.

136. Yeah, they did ruin your life. Maybe you should find a less self-destructive way of getting over your shyness and making friends who aren't almost definitely junkies?

This is unless you just fuck around with marijuana. In which case you should say that and not "drugs," because goddamn. Marijuana may still fuck around with you a lot and may not be the best thing to be on, and you should probably kick the habit ASAP, but at least it won't fuck you up as bad as EVERYTHING ELSE.

137. Except that they do portray Italy as an honestly good, lovable, likeable person. You also gotta keep in mind that Italy, in the series, is not supposed to represent Italian people, but instead Italy as his personality would be if the country were an actual personified person, based on how things went down historically. Not really on the people in it.

That said, it's not bad if you hate it. If you're offended by it. Only people being moronic asses will judge you for that. As long as you're not hating on, judging, condemning, etcetera, people who do like the series, it's all good. You don't have to love it, like it, agree with it, or even tolerate it. You don't have to not be offended. Just don't be an ass about it, and everyone who's going to be reasonable will be good with that. :3

141. ... Are you joking.

What the fuck.

For one thing, men like some of those shows. And for another, have you seen some of the shows that "men like"? You could have switched out "women" for "men" and replaced all of those pictures with wrestling and it would be... well, it'd still be a pretty stupid secret, but at least it'd be EQUALLY stupid.

143. ... Some of those are really freaking weird things to hate, I gotta say. O_o

That said, that series is kind of awesome even without the fapping, man.

144. jfkshsakjfhsjfhasjkf

*incoherent gleebubbles* ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

146. Less developed but usually way more interesting, OP. Or at least just as interesting, but easier to be drawn to because the spotlight isn't on them constantly and we want to know more about them than we're given. I tend to always love the main characters, but damn, the side characters are almost always inherently more interesting for me.

147. MOAR PEOPLE NEED TO USE THIS TEMPLATE.

Before I discovered this character I would have scoffed at that, but now I know exactly what you mean.

TL;DR THAT IS NOT EXACTLY ADDRESSED AT 106

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
You know what? I don't even care anymore. People are obviously going to whine and hate and judge and try to stir up drama for petty little shit, so here's something that I was thinking of forming into a secret somehow, but you know? I'm not ashamed of this opinion, so I'm gonna come out and own it.

All of you are asses.

I AM NOT NECESSARILY ADDRESSING YOU, though, OP! Although, yeah, if you're trying to make people ~unhappy~ just for your own shits and giggles, you're not exactly the pillar of maturity yourself here. Just being like any other schoolyard bully. I can't tell if that's what you're doing, but what you're doing is mean-spirited, even if you think it's warranted. That aside, this message isn't really to you, nor is it to any of the people who just dislike the comic, or are offended by it, but allow that there are differences of opinion, and even if it makes YOU uncomfortable, someone ELSE can like it without that reflecting badly on them. And the message isn't even just for the Hetalia fandom! So, for everyone to ponder over:

If you judge an entire fandom because of one fan, a small number of fans, or even a group of fans, then you're being an ass.

Not everyone is exactly alike. People can like something and not be exactly the same as other people who like that same thing. This seems obvious, but GOD DAMN do people seem to forget this a lot. If you feel warranted in, or, freaking forbid, SMUG ABOUT, judging everyone from an entire fandom just because of the one who reacts badly -- the few people who are drawing shouta -- the group that's shipping something you have a personal problem with -- even if those things are justifiably off-putting, not everybody who likes the canon and is in the fandom is going to LIKE THOSE THINGS, or react that way, or whatever the hell.

As an example, even if I hated incest and thought it was absolutely horrible and people were creepy for liking it, it'd still give me no reasonable rights to judge the entire Supernatural fandom for the Wincest fans. Some of the ones they say don't ship it might secretly enjoy it! It's still unreasonable and arrogant to point at them and say "but you're in that fandom so you MIGHT" and shun them. What kind of logic is that?

To swing it back to Hetalia for a second (because this is just the most recent secret of it's kind I can remember seeing), just because one smug ass in the Hetalia fandom is going "OH GET OFF IT YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO BE OFFENDED BY THIS COMIC YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO BE PC CRAI MOAR AND STFU," not everyone in the fandom shares that view. Far from it. If you pull out that example to judge the entire fandom by, you're less of an ass than the OP of that secret, but you're still pretty goddamn unreasonably douchy.

Not everyone who likes something is exactly the same. And now let's take it a step further!

If you judge a person, if you judge their value as a human being -- and yeah, that's what you're doing when you immediately judge everything about the person, or "lose all respect" -- just because they like ONE SPECIFIC PIECE OF ENTERTAINMENT, then you are not only being an ass, you are being a SHALLOW asshole and deserve to be slapped.

I'm just not going to candy-coat this one. I'm just not. I've seen it too goddamn much, more and more, and it's really starting to make me sick. For one thing, who the hell are you to judge what people are ALLOWED to like, what they MUST loathe? And who are you to assume that just because someone likes one thing that you think sucks, or dislikes something that you think is amazing, that they have ABSOLUTELY NO TASTE?

Here's a hint, guys: with how many Twilight fangirls there are in the world, including the ones who are unwilling to admit it because it's apparently fashionable to ostracise someone if they dare to think the books might NOT be the worst things ever written, AVOIDING A FANDOM BECAUSE A TWILIGHT FAN IS IN IT IS FUCKING POINTLESS. They are probably in most of YOUR fandoms too, and if you look around, you'll notice nothing's imploded and died of brain aneurysms or whatever you expected to happen.

CONTINUATION that I'm fairly sure no one will be reading at this point :|

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Similarly: that one movie, TV show, anime, book, what the hell ever? You know, the one that you absolutely LOVE or HATE. The one that you can't imagine anyone NOT sharing your opinion on, and if they happen to disagree with you, you "lose all respect for them"? You declare their personal taste null and void and horrible because obviously, if they like this piece of tripe/don't like this amazing genius work, none of their other opinions can be intelligent or worth anything, and they must be horrible stupid people to boot?

They probably are also in some of your other fandoms. They probably love some of the things you love! And then, my god, what does that say about you?!

Absolutely nothing. That's what. Because remember: personal fucking taste. You're not going to die or have yourselves sullied in any way by being associated by a heathen who doesn't share your every like and dislike. You're not going to drop in IQ points. And someone isn't a bad or stupid person just because they think about things differently than you do.

It's pointless. It's irritating. It's idiotic and assholish, and you know what else it is? It's really fucking insulting. It's arrogant and insulting for you to think that you can put someone in a nice, neat, labelled little box, that you can judge their entire value as a human being, just because of a piece of ENTERTAINMENT they enjoy. I don't care if this is a cartoon, a TV show, a movie, a book, an anime, a video game, a song or album or band or anything. I don't care if this is a series or an OTP. If you're trying to sum up another person just because of something that was made expressly for people TO enjoy, that happens to either WORK FOR THEM OR NOT, then that completely belittles the person in question. You've basically summed up someone with a life, a family, dreams, hopes, ideals, a past and present and future, looked at a piece of entertainment that they happen to enjoy or not, and decided that the rest of that doesn't matter at all.

People come up with enough ways to hate each other for stupid goddamn reasons. Maybe we should all try thinking a little bit before proceeding along with, not only another one, but an EXCEEDINGLY FUCKING STUPID one at that.

Again, this is not directed at you, OP. Your secret is irritating and pretty immature, but you know what? You're probably not an immature person. People can do immature things without being immature people. And you can be an immature person without being a bad person. A person can be immature, a jerk, a bitch, an asshole, whatever about something, and not be that kind of person, and not be a bad person. I guess that's kind of part of my point here.

This isn't addressing you. This is addressing all of the people who thoughtlessly insult not only other people, but their OWN INTELLIGENCE, by deciding to judge a person's entire worth based on -- of all fucking things in this world -- fandom. Come up with better reasons to hate someone, if you feel the need to hate. Or just acknowledge that different people enjoy different things and continue on with your life.

I'd also like to offer an apology, for my comments a few days ago on one of the Hetalia-fandom-rant secrets. I DID overreact, I WAS bitchy, I WAS out of line. It shouldn't have bothered me as much as it did, but I was irritated and blew up. That wasn't fair. Anyone who wants to continue to judge me for that, fine; anyone who wants to judge me and hate me for THIS comment, that's fine too. Anyone who wants to judge my fandoms for either of the above, you might want to ask for a list and hope nothing you love's on it, because goddamn I'm in a lot of fandoms. XD; But seriously: if you're going to hate and judge, you're going to do that anyway without anything talking you out of it, so go ahead. It's not worth worrying anymore -- and even if you do that, odds are still good that you're not a bad person, so. No judgement in return. Fandom and the Internet is way too ridiculous to start getting offended and vitriolic over.

I just hope a few people think.

151 There's no rule that states that you MUST get involved in the fandom of everything you read. I gave Watchmen a read about a year or two ago and I enjoyed it. Will I interact with the fandom? No. There's no need. I enjoy the novel for what it is and don't need to go any further on it, really.

Anon, I love you. I spent all day watching this and lol'd at every episode.

You're probably not going to see this but, yeah, just wanted to say thank you for bringing hilarious zombie survival shenanigans into my life. ♥♥♥

I once wasted a year of my life hanging out with this Young Republican guy from the college I dropped out of who it turned out I actually couldn't stand just because he kept his Brillo pad hair parted like Arnold Rimmer's.

What I mean is: if you could also please act like an arrogant prick in addition to frequently misremembering various rules and sayings in a humorous manner, we could totally be friends.

Holy crap, I miss Red Dwarf.

OP of that secret here. I'd like to think I've grown out of my Rimmer phase (yay for developing a few social skills), but I have a feeling the goitishness is probably lurking under the surface. Where it rightly ought to remain.
