171. YES. And ditto for racism.

God forbid anyone be asked to examine their assumptions. What good is that going to do?

133: I completely agree, that's a great plot idea - know any fics like that?

142: Oh, he's most definately gay and I love him so, so much. My friends also think I'm absurd because I adore those movies and I too would love to be his BFF. That pic is gorgeous - do you have it without the text please?

Re: 154

[identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I wouldn't say that Dan Green was the worst, but I do feel that he was highly overrated. Very, really, intensely highly overrated.

139. XD!!! That is hilarious!

154. Except that they're talking about the character's seiyuu. Not their VA. If we're allowed to call it anime and manga without getting bitched at to just say "cartoons" and "comic books," then seiyuu is a perfectly valid term.

119. Really? Really?

131. Best secret ever, and I don’t even watch DW.

139. Eight year olds tend to have more creativity than older authors, and this is yet another example of such.

146. I lol’d.

148. I’ll concede that I’m sort of like that…I only enjoy non-con if it doesn’t involve my favorite character, because I’m irrationally attached to them.

151. I agree 100%.

159. Your secret isn’t readable, but I’m guessing you don’t want to talk about shipping. If so…good luck getting that to happen. There’s not much to scrutinize regarding the actual games, other than the occasional plot holes (cough4-3cough), so shipping is a natural topic, IMO.

174. D: I’m so guilty of giving my favorite adorkable characters extraordinary levels of badassery…but it’s only because fandom wouldn’t accept anything less.

179. NEITHER CAN I, WTFWTFWTF. That’s the crackiest pairing…well, not ever, but close enough within the Naruto fandom.

161. Word. Wilson is too manipulative to be termed as nice. Though I still think he's more decent than House is.

165. Oh GOD, I used to play that game a lot when I was younger. I always picked Poindexter because I wanted him to get some love.

170. *Takes one look at poster, and bursts into tears* Please, for the love of God, don't let there be a sequel. I'll be damned if they taint Vegeta with that shit.

165 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too! I played it with my mom all the time when I was a kid. I've always thought that Poindexter is a sweetheart - I mean, I get so happy when I get the card that says he left me an unsigned Valentine. <3 I'm glad I'm not the only one who always picks Poindexter, though. ^ ^

112. LOLWUT?

128. I have that issue with a lot of celebrities. If you leave the Mormon way of life out of disagreement with it, then you learn about all the facts and the lies and such, then learn that somebody you admired fell for it... it's a disappointment.

180. I love and miss that show quite a bit. ♥

175. "Kaoru" is a perfectly valid romanization of カヲル, as far as I know. The kana often romanized as "wo" is pronounced as just "o", and Hepburn (probably the most common romanization system in the US, or at least up there) does render it that way. Granted, it's not the official romanization of his name, but that doesn't make it incorrect. Either way is right, and I think it's a little silly to get upset over people spelling it differently.

Compared to House, Wilson is pretty dang nice...

Re: 161

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, no, he's not. See, that's the thing. Everyone always compares him to House without ever really paying attention to the show - Wilson is House inside out. House pretends he doesn't care and acts like an ass. Wilson pretends he cares and acts like the nice guy. Sometimes it's legit (just like how it's sometimes legit with House), but more often than not, Wilson is just faking being nice in order to be a manipulative bastard. It's how he gets people to trust him: smiling, being polite. Then he uses that trust to work for him. Just like House counts on his being an ass to get away with shit. Watch Wilson next time - the two people he manipulates most are House and Cuddy. You'll see it if you pay attention.

Trust me, if Wilson were the nice guy, he wouldn't be on his third divorce due to infedelity.

117. Elitist assholes exist in every fandom, and they especially make their presnence known when something becomes hyped and popular. I definitely understand getting irritated with something you really like being drenched in the shittier, undesirable parts of fandom...but acting like a stuck-up prick doesn't help things at all.

148. Rape is generally a violent, depraved attack on an unwilling individual. Obviously it'll make you uncomfortable if it's applied to something you like. Some people do it for laughs, but the act at its core is lewd and demeaning. You pretty much saw rape for what it was because it was being done to a favorite character of yours.

152. I can see why someone would hate the whole moé aesthetic and concept. If the character has tits and pulls the mewling moébait shtick, it's sold. I don't outright loathe it, but I find it pretty overused and annoying, mainly because most (keyword = MOST) moé characters' sole purpose is to provide fanservice by making goo-goo eyes and/or /kyoot widdle eckspwehshunz/ at the viewer, sometimes to the point of not contributing to the plot at all.

170. That's basically the only leg that this movie has to stand on, really. From the cinematography and melodrama demonstrated in the movie, it's going to be like watching a really shiny, fanscinating trainwreck.

148 OP

109) D'aww. Touching secret is touching. ♥

125) Your paranoia is pretty pathetic. What if it turns out that some of them actually liked het and wanted to talk to you about it? You'd be so busy being two-faced that you'd miss out on the acknowledgment you're looking for.

139) You were eight, ffs. Give yourself a break; eight year olds come up with some crazy shit. When I was that age, I'd just gotten out of the 'Thundercats underoos and waving around a plastic sword while pretending to be Lion-O' stage.

149) I said it before and I'll say it again. OP, I like how you think. :D

150) Oh yes, definitely. She was also quite possibly the only other character, aside from Nunnally, that didn't come across as bugfuck nuts in R1.

155) For you, that is. For the rest of us? Not so much. But eh, I have to say this place is pretty dull without the wank, so whatever make you happy.

169) I dunno. I think K-pop fandom in particular is scary as fuck considering the concentration of crazies who do harmful things for/to their precious singers, but that doesn't mean that the whole Korean based fandom for anything ever is at fault. There's just spots in it that are worse than others.

Re: 109, 125, 139, 149. 150, 155, 169

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's not the het (so much anyways), it's the AMVs. For some reason they just don't translate between that specific fandom and the general FF one (which is probably over-saturated with AMVs). Basically, my pathetic paranoia relates to the fact my flist will think I'm a loser wasting my time making these videos because it's really not common in their fandoms. If it were fic it would be totally different, unfortunately. :(

Seriously, I have issues with people who lock their icon posts. It doesn't prevent anything and it comes off as extremely self-important behavior, imo.

Re: 168

[identity profile] wanderingscribe.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. On one hand, I agree with you and would like to extend my ire to people who do the same with fanart/fic, but on the other, there are people who have perfect valid reasons to request that sort of thing.

Maybe I just dislike self-important twats looking to boost their friends list with complete strangers and find them to be abusing a setup people use validly just for their own ego trips. I dunno.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-24 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
148 -- The characters in the fic/art you enjoyed weren't real to you. It was fantasy, and that kind of fantasy is very common because it allows the person doing the fantasizing to distance themselves from responsibility for their sexual response, which is subconsciously appealing for more than one reason, and rarely has anything to do with an actual desire to be abused or to abuse anyone else. The character in the art that bothered you WAS real to you. The distance was lost, and suddenly it was rape. You're not screwed up, and you're not being hypocritical. Your responses make perfect sense.

157. I find that secret 99% creepy and 1% cute. I know it's well meaning, but seriously. Then again, I'm one of those people who go to the manga section, grab what they came for and spend only 5 or so minutes to scan titles only to bolt the hell out of there once I'm done. More often than not, I'm utterly creeped out by the fanboys/girls that stand there READING.

159. Fuck. I lost. I feel for you. Sometimes I just want to talk about the game and not about ships and character backgrounds.
