I honestly haven't seen it. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And since it was more frequent in 80s/90s shows, maybe it was more frequent in real life then too. I was overseas then in a school with a strict dress code. But I'm just saying I don't see people with midriff bearing shirts these days. Shirts that are just touching their pants so when they raise their arms skin shows, yes. But not shorter than that.

I'm having a sleep study done tomorrow night. Was supposed to be tonight, but the called to reschedule.

Other than that, I'm putting music on my new ipod and watching Saving Hope. Will clean the house at some point because parents are coming back probably Sunday.

And giving kitty attention because she's wanted a lot of it the past few days.

It's pretty great, but I would put at least 3 ahead of it, personally. (B&tB, Pocahontas, and Mulan.)

It doesn't make sense to arbitrarily make only Elves and Dwarves POCs. So what if these Men were ancestors of westerners if we're already discounting Tolkien's vision? Why do we now care about that? And villains can't be POCs because...? It's not like they would be the only ones in the setting anymore.

the only anthropomorphized moles I can think of are in some of the Narnia books, Wind in the Willows and that one mole in the Butterfly Ball cartoon!

you know what my first answer is, but only the first 3 seasons.
I also like MASH a lot.

Sort of inspired by #13 - How old were you when you first read fanfiction online?

And what was the platform & fandom/ship?

Mine was Lance/Kurt from X-Men Evolution on Adultfanfictionnet when I was 12; linked through the fan forum I was apart of back in the day. I didn't even realize that ffnet was a thing til much later.

I think some villains can be, I just wouldn't only make villains POCs. Some people do that, just make Melkor or Sauron or the men who follow them POCs and that bothers me.

People can do whatever they want. Just me personally, I prefer to stick as much as possible with things that don't contradict canon even if they aren't exactly Tolkien's vision. I don't feel the need to follow the author's personal interpretation of his writing, but I do try to stick to the writing and to interpret myself from that writing rather than going outside of it. The writing still gives a lot of room to interpret with, especially the Silmarillion.

this. it's not playing a part of something you're not, whether he was talking about a role or talking about real life either way. it's far more complicated and the problem is, trying to explain this to someone who can't fathom how trans identity works or dysphoria works often ends up exactly like this. some of us just give up trying to explain.

I've been putting off deep-cleaning the kitchen all week so I'm gonna aim to do it this weekend. Also might be meeting up with a friend on Sunday if the weather is good.

Random question

What was the best year of the 21st century so far in your opinion?

I don't mean the best year in your personal life - I mean the best year for society as a whole, from your point of view

Another fandom ruined.

24. In my defense, the internet as a consumer platform accessible in homes was still very young. It was '99 and it was Star Wars on theforce dot net's forums, prior to that I only had access to Usenet if I used my university's computer labs and there were time limits to keep people from camping there and using MUSHes all night so...

...yeah I old.

I heard being sick after it can be a good sign! It means that your immune system is taking it's lesson in how to fight thie thing seriously. Do take care of yourself.

Podcast recording got delayed to this sunday because one of the hosts was sick, and recording will happen on sunday even if she's still sick.
Tomorrow, will probably play some amoung us with friends. Otherwise, I got korean to catch up on.

I want to say 12. That was when we first got internet access. It would have been 1997. The parents put the computer in my room. But the internet was connected to our phone line, so I could only use it for a short amount of time at first until we got a second line.

But I discovered fanfic pretty quickly, Star Wars and Harry Potter were my first fandoms. Ships would have been Han/Leia for Star Wars. For Harry Potter it was Harry/Hermione first and then Voldemort/Harry which was my first slash pairing.

I was reading Star Wars Legends before that, which is sort of fanfiction.

Honestly, my perspective reading Tolkien as a non-white person is: this isn't my culture. I can appreciate it, and engage with it, but I don't feel the need to establish ownership over this narrative that feels pretty distinctly foreign to me. I've never really imagined an Asian Luthien (but I have seen that fancast) because Asian Luthien just doesn't ring authentic to me at all.

So any and all 'racebending' in Tolkien-dom is purely cosmetic, because nothing about the text leaves room for cultural interpretation. And an authentically POC character is more than how they look.

The first threa seasons are the best. I do like most of season 4 until he chooses the wrong doctors, though. But 1-3 was certainly the best, and the show would have been better if it had ended there.

You know, I've never actually seen any MASH. Maybe I should give it a try.

I still think they're great people who are doing their best and I respect them for it.

I've both worked in editing translations and had my writing translated. In fact, just today I was helping my friend, who speaks English better than I do, translate something from another language and while she knew the words, making it make sense was a two-person job. You kind of need to do the literal translation, which is what this looks like, and then you need a second person to make it make sense in the new language.

Don't get me wrong—I desperately want to do this with some of the fan translations I've seen. But it's a labour-intensive job and I don't have the time and energy to do that kind of thing for free.

I hope the sleep study goes well. Is it at your house or at a facility?
