Gardeners!
(Anonymous) 2021-04-25 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Gardeners!
For flowers, I got lantanas for the middle of the bed. Got some more dianthus barbatus since they were on sale. Hoping to eventually get all perennials planted eventually. So any ideas for ones that can survive zone 7 and enjoy partial shade are welcome.

Re: Gardeners!
(Anonymous) 2021-04-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)I have a patch in front by the mailbox that is all native prairie - ironweed, butterfly weed, coneflower, lobelia, etc plus some shooting stars for spring - and in the back I'm slowly converting turf grass and hostas to all native plants. Goldenrod, penstemon, native berries in the sun and solomon's seal, rue anemone, and jack-in-the-pulpits in the shade. It's a labor of love and it's taking years to establish around 80 native species but it's worth it. And better than mowing!

(Anonymous) 2021-04-25 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Gardeners!
Outside the garden plot, raspberry vines had taken over a corner of my yard beneath the lilacs before I moved in ten years ago, and only the last couple years have I been pruning them back, due to overcrowding and some kind of orange fungus on the leaves of some vines. Hoping it didn't spread to the ones that are left, but they're growing leaves at least.
Roses around the perimeter of the yard. Was too sick last year to really care for them properly, so it looks like a couple of them have died, and my favorite purple bush is a lot smaller than it was in years past because something (probably the backyard bunnies) munched on them in late fall. But most of them are showing fresh growth, and the ones that were well established and producing well before last year are especially seeming to be well.
The front yard is shady with three huge maple trees (which is why I have 21 mason jars full of homemade syrup!) so the bulbs my sister-in-law's mom planted here when my brother and his wife moved in have never done well. I've been gradually moving daffodils, hyacinths, and irises into the back yard where they can get sun... One of the two beds has been filling in with creeping myrtle I transplanted from my parents house where it was out of control (also have some climbing thing I can't identify that I also swiped some of, now grown all the way up to the top of my deck in back), the other with lily of the valley, and I've been adding a couple hostas here and there for interest.
I'm curious to see how the irises will do, because I didn't even know what they were until I asked - they were just spiky leaves - and I just transplanted them last fall. They're definitely producing fresh spiky leaves, it would be great if they'd flower.
Aaand finally I so far have basil, peppermint, and cilantro for my bunnies. I usually keep them in pots so I can move them inside over winter and still give them fresh stuff (fertilized with their own poop, so it works well!), but I'm thinking about getting some more mint and just planting it in the yard and hoping that it spreads. Right now my back yard is like 30% garlic mustard, and well... mint would smell nicer when we mow. XD

(Anonymous) 2021-04-26 01:09 am (UTC)(link)I have lots of natives, some flowers, and some tomatoes and peppers in nursery pots that need to go in raised beds or the ground.
My low-chill cherries have set a few fruit and so have the apricots, the navel orange has tiny fruit and flowers, one of the blueberry bushes is covered in little green berries, my sweet peas and roses are blooming, and my lilies are shooting up, but no flower buds yet.
I need to start more things from seed but I keep putting it off.

I wish Slate hadn't gone paid only, I loved that site and used to check it every day.
I wish every website would stop using malicious ads and/or would allow adblock to be used on their site.

I just wish more people I like would use websites I like. For instance, DW instead of Facebook and Tumblr. :P

(Anonymous) 2021-04-26 12:25 am (UTC)(link)1. There isn't a function that allows you to disable reblogging on original posts (posts you make yourself). I think that is the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. I hate it, I've always hated it, I will always hate it. Yes, reblogging is basically the heart and soul of tumblr. But I still think there should be the option to make your own posts non-rebloggable.
2. When you block a tag, posts with that content still show up, they just show up as blocked. That is just so stupid to me. Why, why, why doesn't blocking a tag just make the post not show up at all?
IDK, I just feel like tumblr is so badly, lazily designed.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-26 03:55 am (UTC)(link)I mean the functionality exists already?
But I'd like it if they made that option an easy ticky-box in your User Profile instead of having to hang around in the back alley until someone tells you how to do that.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-26 05:50 am (UTC)(link)I’ve been doing fandoms for half my life, and I spend most of my spare time reading fic, so why can I suddenly not remember how I deal with this kind of Feels(tm)?nvm I just remembered my cycle is soon, so that’s probably why I’m freaking out over something so ridiculous. I kind of am freaking out though, and I had nowhere else to vent it.no subject
(Anonymous) 2021-04-26 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)I had my period earlier last week and suddenly I found myself having ALL THE FEELINGS for a dumb song I had on replay and I was honestly crying 10 out of 10 times I heard the song, and it wasn't even a sad song, just a fucking love song. The good part is that I managed to get out of the creative block I had been stuck in regarding my romantic original so yeah.
