I hate that Doctor Who fans constantly hate on the current showrunner. First it was Moffat, now it's Chibnall. I thought Moffat was the worst show-runner of all time and now y'all miss him?

I don't think Chibnall is a good show runner, but I thought Moffat was worse and certainly don't want him back. I hope this helps alleviate your confusion!

I think that’s been a tradition dating back to Classic Who. I personally don’t have a favorite showrunner and I wouldn’t be able to tell you which one’s better. They’ve all had episodes I’ve liked and episodes I haven’t liked (and everything I don’t like, I just retcon in my mind).

So maybe the problem isn’t the showrunners; it’s the folks who’re supposed to be running the showrunners.

I have issues with both of them (and also with RTD... and JNT... no showrunner/producer is perfect and there are things that poke out and irk me about every era), but in very different ways. I think Moffat has some sexism he needs to address, was too horny for his own good, and could get a little too obsessed with cool moments and ideas and built massive storylines around them to the detriment of the show. Chibnall, on the other hand, doesn't seem to know how to make individual episodes stand out from each other, thinks he's far more progressive than he actually is which I find annoying, and seems to really like some aspects of Classic Who (Time Lord bullshit, large TARDIS teams) that were already not my cup of tea. So I like the Moffat era more as of now, but mostly because he seems to like the same aspects of DW that I do - and that's fine. Not every era and every part of the show is going to click with me, and I will fully admit that I need to accept that and get over it.

It's entirely possible that the people saying this thought Moffat sucked, but have come to think Chibnall sucks even more.

But I think you're overlooking the fact that while Moffat had his detractors, he also had a lot of fans, and many of the people bemoaning the current state of the show and wishing Moffat would come back are those fans.

I have a deep and probably unfair grudge against Madeline Miller due to the fact that her book has been latched onto by the migratory slash fandom, which, unsatisfied with merely being irritating about their new fave, has created a fun conspiracy theory to amuse themselves, all about how "historians" are obsessed with HIDING THE TRUTH about A&P being and item and how this just PROVES that all historians, indeed, all of academia, has as its One True Goal the denial and annihilation of all depictions of queer people in any historical document ever. This would be stupid and inaccurate enough if they stuck to talking about A&P, but these fools have shared the love enough that I see other FICTIONAL CHARACTERS being claimed as victims of le homophobic historians. First: that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works. Second: None of you people know the first thing about either historical or literary analysis, especially of really old documents, which is painfully obvious given some of your stunningly idiotic takes. You're woefully, blatantly ignorant about ancient Greece: you don't get to pretend that historians (a growing percentage of whom are queer themselves, and who are the ones responsible for you even being aware that queer historical people existed) are the ignorant ones just because you read some published fanfic.

This was the joke behind that Dan Harmon “What if Dexter was a serial rapist instead of a serial killer?” sketch that offended the hell out of everyone.

On that note, I would love to see someone argue that shows where police beat up suspects in custody are intentionally eroticizing the violence. It makes as much sense as that “slasher movies are about gay sex” argument that goes around sometimes.
