Man, I recently caught up with the show and I'm still reeling from season three. There were so many "Were they really going to do tha- holy shit, they did!" moments that it blew me the heck away.

I always see the likes of the Clone Wars as trying to bridge the gap that the PT pretty much hopped, skipped and jumped over. It doesn't surprise me when people say the find Anakin more sympathetic in other media.

There's got to be something in the longer-term (in the past) stuff that helps you accept Vader's eventual redemption. I personally don't think the PT did a good job of displaying the "good within" that was still meant to be there. I found Clone Wars helped me get there.

That's a good thing! Anakin's slow descent from a well-meaning child to a confused and hurt adult to Darth Vader is meant to be a tragedy, and it doesn't work so well if Anakin isn't sympathetic.

I haven't watched the prequel trilogy since the movies first came out, it's easier for me to reconcile the two portrayals.

Back when I use to watch it - I kind of felt the same way about RuPaul's Drag Race - I didn't really care about the drama but I really enjoyed seeing what outfits they would wear and create for the runway.

I wish there was a website like the Bechdel Test one or Does the Dog Die where they warned for this particular plotline. I'd save a lot of time. People like to recommend stories with political themes or subtext and half the time it turns out to be this.
