Headache is still there, and back pain from bruised bone was bad again. Sister and brother in law are here, so I'm holed up in my room. Not up for being social.

Listened to a bunch of softer, more relaxing music while using ice for my head and heat for my back and looking at kitty loaf pictures on Reddit. Probably going to nap now.

Oh, and for dinner, half of the family is doing steak, and the rest of us are having tuna steak. Super excited about the tuna.

My sister and I grilled hamburgers while the kids played in the sprinkler. My NoSleep feed is messed up so my new episode isn't showing up. Hope the website gets to me soon so I can listen to it. :(

We also had a storm come thru with crazy high winds. Knocked our power out for about 4 hours so I had a sweaty sleep.

Went in to town with Mom to have coffee at a café. Then helped Mom plant new flowers at the grandparents' graves.

Currently watching a let's play series on yt for a game I like, but gritting my teeth because the commentary is incredibly annoying.

Well, it sure started out with a bang. Noticed at about 1am as I was getting ready for bed that there was some kind of very small insect swarming the back of my toilet, barely visible. I seem to have a dust mite infestation, and that startled me enough I couldn't sleep until about 3.

And then got another startling thing this morning. Long story short, the Chewy box that arrived on my side porch last weekend was not my auto-ship bunny pellets, but someone else's cat food, and I didn't know until I cut it open this morning to refill the buns' food containers. I never thought to question the box on my porch or look at it too carefully because there it was on my porch in the same size box as my usual auto-ship order, and 25lb of dry cat food weighs and sounds about the same as 25lb of bunny pellets.

So I started my day panicking because my buns were literally out of their regular food, rather than having enough to last for a couple months. Had to rush to place a pick-up order at a local pet store for a smaller bag, only to find that it was listed as "low in stock", which I know from experience sometimes means "out of stock". But fortunately, it really was just "low", and 15 minutes later got the email saying it was ready, so my buns have food for tonight now, and I will be dropping a note in my neighbor's mailbox saying "hey call/text me and I'll bring this down or you can come pick it up."

...So yeah, that was a little freaky. Been decent enough since. Really hot and sunny, had a nice walk through the forest and took some fun AR shots in Pokemon Go. Cleaned bunny boxes, brought in a new 50lb bale of hay (between that and the fresh bag of pellets, buns should enjoy dinner tonight!), hopefully made some headway against dust mites by cleaning the area around the toilet and the toilet itself really well. The fic that I insisted I was Not Writing and then gave in and started writing and then was abandoned by the muse... well, he seems to be back and more cooperative now, and it's looking a lot better than it was when it was a first draft and 1000 words shorter.

Okay I guess, in that it could be better, and could be worse. Had a good dinner. Trying to decide whether I should work on fanworks or game a bit more.

Not bad. It's hot as hell outside, but I got my AC repaired, so I'm blasting it and editing a fic.

I've never been this close to genuinely running out of money. I don't know what to do. I've had several financial crises happen all at once (hot water heater broke, bathroom sink flooded which cause drippage through the downstairs ceiling, ER visit, emergency vet visit, pet dental surgery, HOA deciding to do a special assessment which has shot my monthly rate through the roof, ALL THIS AND MORE) and it's just... too much. I'm not a spendy person, but I work a minimum wage job and I just don't know how I'll recoup all this. I was aware I was slowly bleeding to death before but now it's like an artery's open and I can't staunch it. I don't know what to do.

Pretty good, all things considered. I rested a lot, got distracted a lot and just like that, Saturday is gone. Hope you had a good day, OP!

Good! I had an ultrasound done on one of my breasts to check up on a benign cyst and it's still small and benign-appearing.

What book have you read recently that you enjoyed?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2021-06-12 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I just finished 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. I really enjoyed all but one of the stories.

I bought some old favorites from Amazon for my Kindle and have reread a few of them and still enjoy them as I did when I read them the first time. The ones I've reread so far are Chicken Soup for the Soul Life Lessons from the Cat, the Crown and the Crucible (the first book of a romance series set in Czarist Russia), Sharing a Mate (an erotica book by Evangeline Anderson), and Natural Law (a femdom erotica book by Joey Hill).

TRacks: A woman's solo trek across 1700 miles of Australian Outback, by Robyn Davidson. She took four camels and a dog from Alice to the Western Australian coast (Broome?) back in the early 1980s when Alice was a rough, tough and nasty frontier town. She wasn't entirely without human company but near as dammit. It reminds me of Dervla Murphy's books, another intrepid traveller who started in the early 1960s, cycling solo over much of the world.

Hm, I see Davidson was staying with Doris Lessing while writing the book. No wonder it's so such a cracker. (How do you get to just ...stay with Doris Lessing?)

I just finished An Unsuitable Job For A Woman by PD James and I'm about halfway through the sequel (The Skull Beneath The Skin). It was interesting. It was odd in the sense that its style feels very 1940s, 1950s, but it's set in 1972. Which isn't actually that weird or anachronistic - 1972 was only 15 years after 1957, after all, and important parts of the backstory do take place in the 1950s. But it's still somehow surprising. Also I thought it was a little grim and morbid, it doesn't have the flashes of life or humor that relieve some other detective writers. But all of that said, I still enjoyed it on the whole.

Plowed through all of the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner in 4 days, really enjoyed it, didn't get enough sleep since I'd stayed up late reading every night.

Then read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and was underwhelmed, but I'm hoping I'll like Six of Crows better.

Ooh! I began reading that several years ago and didn't get very far. I'll try reserving a copy at my library after I finish the three library books I'm already reading.

What super popular media do you not get the point of?
