What has disappointed you lately?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-11 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Rain OP from yesterday. The storm went completely north of us. :(

The ending for Banana Fish, which is weird because I knew it was coming (all my friends warned me about it after I asked them to spoil it), but I’m still disappointed because it’s a tragic ending for no logical reason IMO.

Hard same! I didn't even watch the last episode because I knew it was coming and just decided to ignore it.

i'm not, i was genuinely disappointed that the guy they brought on for the sole purpose of taking a penalty seems to have channeled the worst aspects of one of his clubmates

That sucks, nonny. Hope you get some rain soon, though!

I'm sorry, OP, that sucks, rain is awesome even aside from preventing drought and wildfires.

This is a holdover from last year, tbh, but my birthday and San Diego Comic Con are both in July, and often overlap. This is the second year SDCC won't be happening, although there's a smaller event planned for November.

I miss wearing my shitty costumes and sewing them while sitting and standing in long lines and working a shift at the booth for my job. I miss seeing other people in costume and complimenting them on their work.

It could be worse; without federal rescue money, the lack of SDCC tourist money would've fucked over the city, my job, and lots of my coworkers. SDCC hotel taxes and other spending are something like 4% of San Diego's budget.

But I don't really have friends so being a nerd in a big crowd of excited happy nerds for my birthday, even though no one knows but me, is fun.

Awww yeah, I feel this. I'm in the same boat with Anime Central - same week as my birthday every year since 2003 except one year there was some kind of conflict with another event and it was in April instead of May. No giant geek undercover birthday party two years in a row sucked.

Maybe you can buy yourself something nerdy that you might have bought in the dealer's room? Buying myself a few super-cute Japanese stuffed bunnies did not make up for the lack of the entire con by any means, but at least it brought a little of the experience home.

AYRT--sorry you missed out on your secret nerd birthday, too. Hopefully next year in person cons will be a thing again.

I will definitely buy myself something nerdy for my birthday. Maybe I'll start sewing something for the November event.

The really loud storm right on top of us that kept me awake most of the night last night. I like a good rain, but when the thunder is right there and so loud I can hear it over my earplugs and end up unable to sleep, it is very frustrating.

Ordered a couple tank tops with awesome artwork from a small business for my birthday with the intention of wearing them this summer...

Well uh, birthday was almost two months ago now and I still don't have the shipping notification. I emailed a couple weeks ago to check that my order was received and they said the shirts are in production... wondering if I should email again because they initially said orders would ship in 8-10 business days after the order was placed. :/

Similarly, the Vagrant Story figures (AT LONG LAST AFTER 20 YEARS OF NO OFFICIAL MERCH FOR MY ONE TRUE FANDOM) got delayed again. I think I pre-ordered last September for a February/March release. Was not too disappointed that in January they got pushed back to May, because hey - birthday time. But then in April they got pushed back to July. So at the very end of June, they got pushed back again... but this time only one month further, until August. I just want the creepy immortal jerkwad half of my forever OTP and Ashley's exposed buttocks to display prominently in my house, okay?

E-mail them again. I sympathize with small business and the struggle, but it's not really okay to give someone a deadline, blow past that deadline and then never update them about what happened.

Loki spoilers

(Anonymous) 2021-07-12 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Loki and Sylvie being implied to have romantic feelings for each other definitely disappointed me. I'm really pleased with the show overall. It's easily my favorite of the MCU shows so far. But the Loki/Sylvie thing tempers my enjoyment more than a little. It's just so tiresome...like...must we? Must we really?

Full disclosure, I do ship Lokius, so I am biased. But even if I didn't ship Lokius I am positive Loki and Sylvie's relationship would work way better for me if it was set up as a genuine loyalty and tentative friendship that Loki felt towards her.

Re: Loki spoilers

(Anonymous) 2021-07-12 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
HOLY FUCK! I was JUST posting about this downthread! Yes! I had my complaints about the Lamentis episode (mostly because I felt like they'd had no real positive interactions before the "What is love" stuff, which I correctly understood as groundwork for a clumsy romantic transition, but the whole conversation didn't work for me because it was just a bunch of huge generalities and we haven't even SEEN Loki experiencing romantic love so wtf does he know about it and WHY would he or Sylvie for that matter be interested in the subject when they have WAY more on their plates right then?) The character is a narcissist, so it feels like an irresistible storyline to go down but I found myself really put off with it in the latest episode. I think that it annoys me that they put in some honestly pretty vague reference to Lokis' bisexuality then they IMMEDIATELY pair the boy Loki/girl Loki options. It just seems like such a lame copout. Like all the times shows try to get brownie points for the female character in a pre-established romantic pairing basically being like "Maybe I WOULD be attracted to women but it'll never come up so whatever lol anyways..." I'm trying to put my finger on why it annoys me. It's not as though either character isn't bisexual by virtue of a hetero pairing but it just feels so cheap, like they're acknowledging that minor MCU characters could be bisexual but they only act on hetero ships and it's just ugh. But then I was also kind of vibing with the Loki/Mobius dynamic so I'm not sure I'm not just annoyed it didn't go my way.

Its been driving me a little crazy how everyone agrees its romantic and just jumping on that train. That they show decided to go in that direction at all instead of doing an interesting expression of friendship love for a more gentle metaphor of self-love (that's not narcissistic).

Honestly I was originally hoping I was clocking things right that Loki was setting himself up as someone sibling-like to Sylvie. I remember talking to a friend who much more interesting would it have been if Loki was trying to fill the role of Thor for her considering her whole life was taken from her.

Loki. I was never big into Loki but I thought he was quite funny in Thor Ragnarok. Loved Wandavision and was looking forward to this one but tbh I feel they could've handled it better. Not going into specifics because I don't want to spoil it for others but the character development was too fast for me.

I’m enjoying to show, but this is a valid criticism that I hadn’t thought about. Thank you for sharing this.

Re: What has disappointed you lately?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-12 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm really enjoying the show, but I do agree that the character development is very fast. I think the only reason the rushed character development doesn't ruin it for me is because I know they just didn't have time to do it in a non-rushed way. So I'm frustrated by the format of the show, but I can't really blame the writing itself because it's doing the best it realistically can, given the constraints.

Loki is my fave so I'm enjoying having more content, the show isn't bad but his characterisation is the same as always (i.e. inconsistent) and the way they're trying to redeem this variant of him is a bit like...I think you needed way more than six episodes guys.

Plus I'm another one who finds the romantic vibes with Sylvie a little weird. But I'd probably be just repeating some of what the anon above said about that!

Now that the covid restrictions are loosening up I really want to go to lots of shows (both live shows and movies) and I have enough $$$ to do it but the theaters are all either still closed or showing stuff I couldn't give a flying rat's ass about like Tom and fucking Jerry or something.

1) The scrambled eggs I made for dinner. I wanted to make them a little more exciting, so I add smoked salmon, but I put in too much and now they're quite salty. Eating it on toast helps, but still disappointing.

2) Lupin, Part 2. I'll still watch the last two episodes, but I'm not that excited about it. It's not living up to what I want from the show, or to what I think they did well in a few episodes.

The guys I made friends with turning into paranoid, blame-happy haters. It’s too much to get into, but this place I was hanging out in went from being friendly and inclusive, to closed-off, suspicious and pedantic. It’s just not fun anymore.
