Joke's on you, I ship the now-girl with plenty of girls on the side, too, and she's always making eyes at them before settling down with the dude. Doesn't erase her bisexuality, and tbh allows me to explore some of my own. (I have other verses where both are chicks, even.)

Sometimes it's homophobia, definitely, but I think far more often it's someone self-inserting by stealth. I had a fandom friend who generally wrote a mix of slash, femslash and het, definitely wasn't homophobic IRL, but whenever she wrote Kirk/Spock, it was always with a female Spock, no other changes at all.

assuming someone's a bigot for gender-bending a slash ship is like assuming someone's an ally for shipping slash. some of the most homophobic twats i've ever met have been slash shippers, this shit says nothing about a person.

I'd only think something might be up if an individual did this to every single m/m or f/f ship and never made any same-sex content for them ever. Otherwise it's likely just a particular aesthetic or hot thing that they like, and tbh unless someone that does this is telling other people to gender-bend one half I don't actually care what they're doing.

The latter depends on context, like are they using gay as a catch-all for LGBT or insisting that the bi character is gay? The former doesn't bother me, the latter would.

I think this is one of those situations where what we want from fiction isn't typically how reality works, and that's okay.

In reality, when one person is doing all the emotional labor that's not really fair to them, and when someone asserts their own needs for emotional reciprocity that's a good thing. But it also often means that relationships don't work out, because most people are bad at changing even when some part of our behavior is very much not ideal. And that's a huge bummer. So naturally there's the fantasy of a relationship where both parties just get each other and don't even mind each other's issues and loves each other exactly as they are, even when rationally some of their bullshit absolutely should be frustrating and exhausting and not a joy to deal with.

I broke the second-to-last toe on my left foot! Badly! On vacation! I had to come home early because of it! Fuck! But at least the doctor and nurses at the hospital were nice (and gentle while poking/prodding/taping my toe), and I've got plenty of good weed to tide me over. Kinda bummed I won't be able to go running for 6 weeks tho.
