I don't care about Youtuber's personal life outside of what affects their videos (aka their or their loved ones' health and stuff like that).
I mainly follow people who entertain me with their art/commentary on movies/tv shows/books or by shining a light on weird trends/MLMs/hacks etc.

Somehow their fans keep clamoring for Q&As or more personal video updating them on their life and... I just don't care. That stuff is boring to me and I don't watch it.
Exception: Always open to people showing us their pets.

Bonus: No, I also don't want to see their family members, spouses and *especially* not their kids.

(writing things past 1am u_u)

What are you looking forward to?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Can be as big or little as possible.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Poster from earlier, it looks like from what's going on the situation is highly political as I suspected and that the Chinese government is making an example out of the star.

Sad but I don't see things looking up for the guy. Is it fucked up yeah? But all together not a surprise.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm yes! I prefer the classic Than/Zag but Hades just has so much shipping potential and there should be something for everyone in it. Secret OP, do you have any headcanons or prompt ideas you'd like to see?

Going back to fandom as an adult and fully immersing myself in it has changed me in ways I did not expect to. Now whenever I'm engaging with a new piece of media my brain defaults to the potential ship dynamics and kinks the fandom for it may have, to the point I even want to make comments about it during group watches or just talking about it with irl/not fandom involved people.
S!B This is not bad for me per se, but I worry at some point a comment about how this character totally has a foot fetish might slip out in the wrong context.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If so, that's disturbing and very toxic.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the link, that's... really sad. And crazy.

I don't know why but I react to the word "sapphic" the same way other people react to the word "moist".
I do read/watch things with f/f relationships in there, but every time I see a "sapphic books rec list" or "this is a sapphic romance" somewhere, I cringe. It's the word itself, not what it stands for. But why.

As an author with like 4 projects I'm basing off of worldbuilding I did for fanfic and as a reader of fanfic... I mean, I see both sides? It can be amsuing. The writer of the fic might be amused too? (who knows.)

I guess people see 50 Shades and those like it and think "oh it's easy." And they miss or don't know 50 Shades was a fanfic of a fanfic of a fanfic.

Like, even though I do weird elaborate cultural worldbuilding and maybe try to keep character dynamics, it doesn't mean this idea based off a fanfic comes with a PLOT/CONFLICT baked into it if I strip the 'fanfic elements' out or even if it DOES have an overarching plot, it might not have the smaller STEPS or the personal smaller plots for me to go "Yes, I can write this easily!" (Sometimes it is a lack of focus, yes. I know. ADHD blues here.)

But I err, have the sense not to post those fanfics anymore. Mostly b/c I refuse to post fanfics unless they're done and if I notice I can I dunno use it for an original story, I probably won't post it. B/C I know even if I did and said "I have similar original work Y," people still wouldn't go and read original work Y. It's just the way it is. Sigh.

If they want the social audience, then I understand them thinking about editing it and re-posting it. I mean I posted a fanfic in an old fandom for me a few years ago I'd finished and got a pretty snide "you would have gotten more comments if you'd posted this once a week" and I was like "I don't care... anymore? Enjoy the story?" But err, I'm pretty blase about it. It is what it is.

Cancel culture doesn't actually exist though, plenty of abusers and rapists have come back to restart their careers and while people might get fired for being shit-heels, they're not barred from the industry or erased like they were never there.

Individuals are given the choice to support or not support who they want, it's not mandated by the industry to this, honestly scary, extent.

There are like 5 books I'm looking forward to coming out in September.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
*wiggles hands back and forth*

I do think that people underestimate how much effort it takes to file off the serial codes of fanfic. Like, reading 50 shades, I can still see Bella and Edward there.

That being said, I do use fanfic as sort of a 'training wheels' sort of idea for certain things. If I want to explore the logistics of an idea, I generally toss it through a fic first to see how it flows there before I try it in an original setting. But that just means that one day, maybe, someone's going to read a fic of mine and then a book of mine and go '...wait a second'

Are you in K-pop fandom generally? Because I honestly have no issue avoiding these guys and I'm not even trying, but I also don't follow any K-pop artists as people/bands, I just like some of the music.

Hermione is my least favorite character from the Harry Potter series.

She's also the one who I get the most compliments on when people read my fic. People really like how I characterize her. Part of me is frustrated because ugh, her.

The rest of me is vindicated because I spend a lot of time when writing HP fic making sure that my hatred of Hermione doesn't bleed into my works and that my portrayal of her is balanced and nuanced.

It's working! I'm glad!

But the comments about how she's so well-written she must be my favorite character are... just... it's sweet.

But so wrong.

Wellllll that's what happens when the government has social control. I guess if you're not familiar with how the Chinese govt works this must all be very scary and fucky in comparison. Not to say it isn't but to call it a surprise it isn't.

Talk to any mainlander about what you can and cannot talk explicitly about online about certain topics and you'll realise that a lot of this stuff is normalized. Again there are a sizeable chunk that realize it's fucked but the sizeable chunk have no real ability to change things or is directly profiting from the government in such a way they can afford to buck things in a way poorer people can't and thus don't want to change the status quo.

I am sort of looking forward to my trip in October. Mostly feeling anxiety due to uncertainty of if it will have to be canceled or not.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
agree, i can't stand them

(Anonymous) 2021-08-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was just about to comment on this and say the same thing. How are you still getting news about BTS, OP? Just unfollow everyone who posts about BTS. I've never seen any opinions from K-Pop fans at all directly.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Same lol. It's perfect.

I applaud your honesty, at least. Going off of what I remember very vaguely of the books, I wanted to like Snape because of the half-blood prince parts, but being shitty to kids rubs me the wrong way.

I started to watch a little known show from New Zealand again this year after it had been taken off one channel I had been watching it years ago to cable now it's on another channel after being taken off cable last year. It has no fandom. all I see on the official Facebook for it with the comments is slagging off. There's nothing but hate for it on Twitter and other social media as well. I just love being into unpopular things that have no fandom and have no one to fangirl with it over!

Nah. I know Sarah has had some bad experiences with proshippers, but all the label means to most people who use it is that you're against cyberbullying (over fandom preferences, specifically, but also in general). It's like dismissing feminism and everyone who calls themselves a feminist because there are some bad feminists, when feminism actually just means you want gender equality. I make this comparison because "proshipping" and "feminism" should be the default stance of everyone. They're specific facets of being a decent person, and their opposites can't be both-sides'ed with them.

Publishing my first original novel. It’s all ready, I just have to hit the button.

(I’m scared it will just disappear without anyone noticing)

I agree with you, OP. I felt very badly about how a lot of Sarah Z's tweets were taken out of context and attacked by every single person. It makes me feel like no matter what if I try to put myself out there, I'd be hated by at least one person on the internet and I don't know what to do about that. Sarah Z saying that the human brain isn't meant to handle modern day social media rings true to me.
