I don't hate that song. It's not my favorite song in the show, but I love the feeling of hearing those opening chords and settling back down in my seat for act two. It's a great way to come back from intermission.

I think everyone may be tired of hearing it at high school chorus events, though.

Maybe, but it feels like every time I talk to people about RENT, I either get RAEG!!!1! because they don't like the show or RAEG!!!1! specifically directed at Seasons of Love, which generally makes me quite a sad kitten. I suppose I just wish people wouldn't judge the song by all the high school chorus events.

Which, full disclosure, I never went to, so I got lucky. :D

Don't like it? Don't read it, or read it and comment. If the author doesn't ever hear "geez, great, but..." then he/she's going to assume that everything's fine and keep on writing it. Con-crit, of course, not just "eew. kids. ew."

Or better yet - write the type of fic you want to see. So sick of people who complain about the quality of fic but don't ever contribute any fic of their own.
