I kinda want recs OP. There's really something to be said about fics that do a good job extrapolating and exploring in universe politics. Sometimes I get in the mood for those too.

I use to read so many fics with various ships pre-2012 that I loved back when I was really into the fandom.
Even though Naruto still holds a special place in my heart for the love of most of the characters from the series, I haven't been able to find any fics that I really like or felt invested getting into when I try to look in occasionally. I suppose the big difference is back then I was largely on FFnet and Livejournal before AO3 was a thing I even knew about - whereas nowadays I'm always on AO3 for my other fandoms.

Ao3 has a really good tagging system when its used properly, but FFnet made people really think about how to tag with the very narrow options of what genre or two characters could be chosen to guarantee the ship you were looking for. Then again back then the series was ongoing whereas now its completed so idk if that has anything to do with it either.

tbh I still write a lot of Naruto fic but everything I do is AU because I stopped caring about canon not long after the original timeskip lmao. But I love the bones of the universe just. so. much.

It's not that uncommon, actually. I remember a lot of Glee fans doing the same, as well as Voltron: Legendary Defender fans and many more of canons that "went awry."

Well, the actual canon is aimed at kids/teens starting from age 9, so if they do a too complicated story, the audience won't be able to follow it.

Doom Patrol has some great characterization and character development, but I think it's also kind of spotty in that respect. Some characters are done very well and others are a little flat.

Or actually, maybe I just don't like Vic.

(I'm also not caught up on Series 3 yet)

This show is an absolute blast and it's the only thing that really captures that complete What The Fuckery of actual comics.

I don't know that I agree with your argument regarding it's artistic merit, but I also haven't seen past mid-season 2.

Relatable. I've been playing FFRK for soooo long and it was a relief when they added the "auto run" option to some of the permanent dungeons like the magicite and power-up dungeons, and the really easy event stuff like the feast dungeons. I can just go into the dungeon, and instead of clicking to start battle, click down in the corner and let it just keep battling and winning me items until my stamina is too low for another run.

So I can spend my time actually PLAYING doing interesting stuff, and then let my phone farm materials for me while I'm doing other things. It's really handy. And if I let it go while getting ready for bed, it'll almost be full again in the morning. :D

(But as gacha goes, FFRK almost doesn't count. I've literally never paid real money in all the years I've played it. The dev team seems really nice about how they treat the players, so we're always getting free stuff because of things like "this item description was misleading so everyone gets bonus mythril even if you didn't spend any on this item".)
