Biggest wish for 2020

[personal profile] philstar22 2021-12-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
What is your number one biggest wish for 2020?

Mine is that I get my own place by the end of the year.

The year that never ends, apparently.

Oops. Yes, I did mean 2022. I'm a year's worth of tired.

That my GI tract starts working properly again. Whether that's by actually finding (and being able to travel to/afford) a doctor who won't dismiss my issues because "women always want to be skinny so what's the problem?", or just miraculous healing for no obvious reason. I just want to be able to eat and drink like a normal person again and be properly nourished and hydrated. :/

I looked into it, and it doesn't quite fit. My best guess (and I have to guess, since no doctor I've seen in the last ten years will do more than an upper GI endoscopy and blood tests which show nothing wrong) is SIBO that has gone untreated (and unidentified) for literally 35 years and has been wreaking enough havoc to wreck the functions of other related organs.

I really wonder if I would've been able to put this behind me if the last doctor I'd seen had just been okay with TRYING the relevant antibiotics rather than going "I've never heard of SIBO so I don't think it exists and therefore rather than prescribing non-habit-forming and non-dangerous medication, I'm going to do nothing."

I am really sorry. I really hope you get both of those things: healing and a doctor who listens.

<3 Thanks. I have a few leads, but in other states, and during this pandemic (since this has decimated my immune system), really not safe to use public restrooms and hotels on the way there. (And one person I know was hospitalized for something else, vaccinated, still died of covid contracted there. I am avoiding medical facilities if at all possible.)

Eww to that doctor.

I hope you find one who's not an ass.

Me too, thanks.

One reason I find Star Trek so fantastic (in the "unbelievable" sense) is that the doctors are basically universally awesome. Not been my experience IRL. :P

I had covid in january of this year (actually diagnosed a year ago to the day honestly) and it messed up first my liver and gave me hepatitis that thankfully went away and then destroyed my stomach. I had a gastric emptying test done twice and the final (good) doctor (after two very very bad doctors and losing 84 pounds and being unable to eat much of anything all year) diagnosed me with gastroparesis. I have a mostly liquid diet now and medications for my stomach bleeding and spasming that was happening (still happens but less painfully now) and I can eat some solid foods (but not a whole lot successfully/without consequence) and I generally favor mashed potatoes and soup. Ensures have been a life changer. I don't know if any of this is of any benefit for you but it could give you something that might have a grain you can chase to benefit you? If anything, know that stomach issues can be dealt with without destroying you - I've put back on 10 pounds since going on this diet!

Ooo, nice. I really hope you find the energy and a safe way to do that. Honestly I procrastinated for years on driving, but it really is useful. Even if you live in a place with public transportation, it is nice to be able to get to other places. And it does get easier the more you do it. The first few years I drove I was really nervous, but now I can barely remember what it was like to not enjoy driving.

You got a professional driving instructor you can hire? That is how I learned to drive at 29.

*thumbs up* I know three people off the top of my head that got their license over the age of 30 (in two of their cases, closer to 40). All three have been very glad they finally went ahead and got it done - regardless of your age/past experience, I hope it goes as smoothly for you as it did for them!

You can do it, nonny! I learned how to drive later in life and it’s worked out well. Just get yourself a professional driving instructor ‘cause being taught by relatives really didn’t work for me.

2022? My main wish would be for this whole trainwreck to stop as painlessly as possible. (It's a wish. Let me dream.)

But having one's own place is a good one too. At least, I wish housing in general actually becomes affordable again.

I'd like to travel again. I think international is out of the questions for the foreseeable future, so I hope I can do lots of road trips. I might get my wish as I think I might be moving across the country in May.

Ditto.

Also, I wish my brother could get a newly renovated bedroom of his own.

2020? That the chump contracts a new weird strain of pneumonia-causing virus, denies that he's ill, passes it to most of the Republican leadership, and dies, leaving a bunch of permanently disabled and dead lackeys and lickspittles behind him, and causing massive support of mitigation measures like funded lockdowns, universal masking, vaccine development and use, and federal funding for ventilation improvements such that only 20,000 or so Americans die, who just so happen to be people who would, in an alternate reality, be pushing conspiracy theories and fake cures, screaming about stolen elections, holding progressive legislation hostage at the whims of campaign donors, stripping voting rights to the bone, packing the supreme court full of Koch dream candidates, and storming the capitol to bludgeon people to death and erect a gibbet on the lawn.

2022? That Republicans don't take back the House or Senate. That, or Roe vs Wade survives the kangaroo supreme court intact.

I'm in the hospital since the 24th with vertigo and nausea and trouble seeing/walking.
docs unsure if stroke or inner ear issues.
I'm barely over 30 and it feels like my life is over.
Biggest wish? be able to walk in a straight line without falling over

Re: Biggest wish for 2020

I am so sorry. I suffered something similar a couple of years back, just before the pandemic took over. Like, not even being able to sit up without intense dizziness and nausea. I called into work sick so many times that year, I'm lucky I didn't piss anyone off. And that's not counting how many times I got sick at work, driving to work, or driving home from work. I went to the urgent clinic and to specialists so many times, had steroids, went through an MRI and other tests, and was even diagnosed with Meniere's disease. And even now, I'm not completely sure that's what it was. But I know that kind of feeling is so crippling. I hope you guys figure it out and you're able to get back to your life (or if it's a thing, are able to manage it so that it isn't disruptive).

Normally my advice for a problem with structural problems with a house is to burn it all down, collect the insurance, and start again. I can see that that might have a bit of an issue here.
