102. I doubt your ideal edgy feminist movie would have fun catchy songs.

147. Didn't you know? Fandom's favourite female characters represent us! Ginny's more realistic being pretty and popular! No such thing as shy girls, after all. Whoever heard of such a thing?/sarcasm mode off

(Anonymous) 2009-03-15 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because Ginny being pretty and popular negates the existence of shy girls every where. So she should be called a slut because girls shouldn't have boyfriends before they settle down with the love of her life. They should think up new and inventive ways for her to die, for being uppity and mean to those boys. She should be compared to the bitchy, bullying cheerleaders who made every shy girl's life a misery! Lets have Draco rape her, she was asking for it! Lets have Harry slap her around and make her strip in front of her family, that's the sort of treatment a slut deserves! Grawp should rape her and then trample her to death, she's only a whore!

People shouldn't care, Ginny's feelings can't be hurt anyway.

You seriously can't understand why some people (not just women) get offended at the treatment of female fictional characters when it so frequently reflects attitudes that RL women have to live with daily.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-15 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like 147 is basically tiptoeing around saying, "People are mean to ME when I call Pam/Veronica/Buffy/every female SPN character a bitch/whore/slut."

147 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-15 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I love fictional women and think character bashing is ultimately pointless. My favorites are usually terribly flawed. In fact, I think I'm more likely to love a typically hated character than I am fandom darlings.

I just don't get outraged when people dislike or even hate the things I love. I'd rather try to understand why.

This is pretty much why most awards, period, don't mean much to me (fandom or real life). They're not necessarily a good measure of the work and effort put forth on a regular basis. *shrug*

Same here and I agree that there's more than just words to their music. :)

I know what you mean.

Y at 136. I won't front, I liked the movie. That scene with Rorschach was gold.

Wooord. When I found out how much he preferred McCain over Obama, I started looking at Ducky in a new light. I must sound very judgemental, and I totally agree with you with how everyone's entitled to their own opinions and beliefs...but still.

velvetwhip is written all over that secret. True or not.

There was a secret a few weeks ago about the kind of "award-winning" fanfiction that she writes. Nobody likes Willow then Angel or Spike rapes her. She either spends the rest of the fanfiction crying or falling in love with her rapist. It's poorly written, OOC, and they all have the same plot.

Yet she wins awards at every community. Along with her circle of friends. Their writing isn't any better. It isn't difficult to see a very clear pattern.

The BNFs of the fandom don't win awards, they get recced. Rightfully so.

Not a jealous writer, just a reader who can see the obvious (and staying anon for a reason)

164. It'd end in murder eventually.

161 116

[identity profile] miribai.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
161. I know, I wanna give him a big ole hug and hope I don't get cancer.

116. Doc Manhattan came off as more of a woobie than Rorschach did. I mean he's unapproachable by the human race, isolated by his power, the only creature he loved started fucking around with Nite Owl, it was arguably within his power to stop it but he didn't. He was powerless to stop the death of 3 million people (12 in the movie which further compounded his misery to blame it on him forcing him into exile.) Jeez, at least Rorschach got to have some good times before he died. Doc just kept getting kicked and kicked and kicked.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
106. Wow. That's...that's pretty disgusting. Hope it's a troll.

116. Arg, I know what you mean. Also, that doodle is fantastic--who drew it?

120. Mm...dolphie's too pretty. But...if I edge a little closer to madness, I might make a plushie.

136. Agreed. Okay, well, I liked pretty much the whole movie, but that scene. It was so important, and I was holding my breath all through, just willing it to be good... And I'm still reeling over everything he put into that moment.

142. Dude, if your friend is claiming Twilight is superior, there is an issue. I'd suggest handing her The Killing Joke, of Geoff John's run of anything, but it seems like a case of stupide that cannot be ammended.

158

[identity profile] pure-mornings.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
158. my friend, there is SO much slash in the fandom, plus cannon gay characters...

113: Good to know how the person who wrote this pathetic letter (http://www.hardcorenerdity.com/profiles/blog/show?id=2239098%3ABlogPost%3A40658&page=1#comments) actually looks like. DX (You'll come back, eventually. Just like Sally. Fucking creep.)

HURRAH FOR WATCHMEN AND RORSCHACH SECRETS!!!

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
136. Couldn't agree more. I think there's basically a general consensus that he's the best thing about the movie.

158. ...oh, honey. XD Clearly, you haven't looked very hard.

161. I must admit, I thought the way they did his eyes was gorgeous. And Billy Crudup was quite good, though it's hard to tell where his performance ends and CGI begins.

[identity profile] christ-chexx-4u.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
102 - i get irrationally upset when people bash on ariel :(

105 - .......thats most definitely not eve myles.

106 - its really a pity youre stuck in such shallowness then, because youve clearly missed alot of awesome.

132 - i dont ship it, but they do have a great vibe. i kinda think kelsey knows whats up, and that they both know that theyre better than this school. i like the looks they give each other when they sing the intro to 'senior year'; its like they know that highschool isnt as perfect and wonderful as everyones trying to pretend that it is, and they know that there are better times yet to come.

.....i think maybe ive seen this movie a few too many times.

136

(Anonymous) 2009-03-15 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Jackie Earl Haley was the best part of that movie.
His acting... so amazing. When he's confronting the kidnapper, he doesn't say a word, but you can feel his rage, all through his breathing and motions. It's almost tangible.
And the scene in the secret... ;-;
So good.

When I first heard about Prof. Layton and The Curious Village, I was kinda shruggy and paid no attention to it. But when my brother actually played and beat the game and I saw the cutscenes and overall environment, I came to terms that it IS a very likeable game. It has a certain charm, if I may ^^

I would REALLY love to see the movie :3

The only reason I am not gonna play this game myself is because I royally suck at this kind of puzzle games ^^;

I adore the disney version of the movie. Why? Because I felt it brought the fairytale to life. Yeah yeah, the original was supposed to be ~*dark and meaninful*~ but I wasn't feeling it. Even the version with Marina did nothing. [the prince was a fucktard and the dolphin was asking to be shot]

Of course, I respect your opinion on the matter. Different strokes for different folks, right?

Re: 102
