102. I do agree, but I think at the same time, it demonstrated the human characteristic of wanting what we can't have. (Okay she's a mermaid and not a human, so a mermaid characteristic?) She's definitely not my favorite Disney heroine, since she dropped her entire life and even sacrificed her voice and everything just for some dumbass guy.

Someone else said that the musical version was much better, and I agree. The musical expanded greatly on Ariel and Derek's characters, and it made it more understandable for Ariel to want to become a human.

But, like you said in the secret, the fairy tale was understandable. I mean, if I found out that when we died, we ceased to exist, except that there was another closely related race that actually had souls, then hell I'd probably cut off my tongue to get a way into that race. As far as I'm concerned, when we die we simply cease to exist, but if others have different opinions, then I respect that. But basically the thought of ceasing to exist kind of really sucks. :|

I didn't think it was just about the prince. Look at how Ariel acts before she meets him- she's fascinated with human stuff, and blows off her responsibilities to investigate human stuff. The reason she sees the prince in the first place is because she was so curious about the ship that she just had to go look. Of course she's in love with the prince, but I got the impression that he was just the straw that broke the camel's back and made Ariel go from wanting to be a part of human culture to getting out there to make it happen. As far as being a mermaid? She never seemed really into that.

Maybe your perfect life would be what she had. I wouldn't mind being a mermaid princess either. But her perfect life was becoming a human, and I thought it was obvious from the beginning that she'd rather be human. Disney couldn't deal with the soul issue of course, but they did a pretty good job of dealing with the seeing a different culture and wanting so badly to be part of it issue.

147 - agreed - I'm not even certain if you're talking about fandom's disconnection from the world's real problems, or fandom's sometimes-valuing its characters over its writers, but agreed either way.

I feel like I've taken a time machine back to 2000. Back when a friend and I would print glossy Weiss Kreuz pictures out on the super expensive color printer in Visual Communications IN SEKRIT and squeal over the pretty boys. My favorite was Youji though.

Oh, honey, I just want to hug you and tell you you're not alone. I have anxiety disorder and suffer from panic attacks too, with the derealization and everything, and it gets so hard sometimes. I tend to use video games to ground myself as well. I'm glad you have something that helps you. anxiety disorders are horrible. I suffer from them as well. I've been on a variety of different meds for the last 10 years. I finally found something that works for me about 90% of the time. I'm taking Buspar.


but I still don't leave the house as often as I'd like. I'm just afraid I'll have a panic attack in public, so I prefer to stick close to home.
