hmm, I don't think I noticed a difference? Is it possible you just find the relationships topics boring? Because imo their conflicts were all philosophical before and after getting together, so for once the writers didn't have to change much to keep the conflicts going, but they did switch from "this the way I want to live my life" to "this is the way I want to be a partner and parent." There was still a lot of overlap, but I think the latter is far more limited.

Agree. They lost all of their spice once they were together, but the writing itself lost its spark in the later seasons.

Agreed! Also, I feel like the writing really betrayed Brenan in service of increasing traditionalism and letting Booth be right about stuff.

I would have been happier with boring. What we got was her character being destroyed, him always right and getting everything he wanted as she changed completely to fit him while he didn't change at all, and basically the entire show ruined.

I noticed that happens with a lot of couples. The UST, Will They or Won't They? dynamics are far more interesting than when they become the official couple. It's like the writers give up on making the relationship interesting once the couple officially ties the knot.

I hate it when this happens and understand why some shows just try to draw it out as long as possible. I didn’t like it at the time but now I’m fine with how Stargate wasn’t explicit about it and just dropped background hints now and again that Sam and Jack were together. Probably easier not to give into temptation to over do it when he was barely in the show anymore of course.

Is it the kind of fic that you could try to recount for yourself? Or jot down major plot/character development and commission someone to write it for you? I know neither of those options can ever really fulfill what you're missing (I feel you 100%, thank quizilla lol). I feel for you,OP.

take it from someone who had a massively popular fic circa 00-01 who still gets asks about it: it's not you. Every time I'm reminded of this fic I genuinely WANT to reupload it somewhere so the hardcore fans can find it again, but then life interferes, I have 20 other things I find more interesting to do at the moment, the html is too hard, the file is on a different external that might not connect to my current laptop...etc.

We oldbies do adore fans trying to find their old nostalgia-pinging favorite, we honestly do, but the hurdles between the fic and your ease of reading it on AO3 are almost insurmountable sometimes. We're trying. Maybe not as hard as we could but harder than some of these crappy old fics deserve.

If you bookmarked the old url or have the link saved somewhere, Wayback Machine over on the Internet Archive may have saved snapshots of it. I've managed to salvage multiple ancient fics that way.

eta: to comment on the secret, I'm far more disapproving on cosmetic change as a possibility (I think "serious harm" can be fairly vague as a standard when we live in looks-based society), but ultimately people only have to be happy with themselves and that includes the consequences of cosmetic changes. I don't think your understanding is at odds with your actions.

I could have lived without seeing that manip. I really could have.

Hermione's my fandom bicycle, but only once she's older and working for the dept of Magic Creatures or what have you. Possibly disappointed/content with her life and no longer with Ron (amicable parting preferably). So that's really the only time I could ship her with Snape. Actually, I think I've only read their pairing once and it was actually pretty good (she's grown and reflecting on his bullshit; he's still on his bullshit to some degree...anyway). And it wouldn't be very nice (much like when I ship her with Lucius or Draco, although the latter tends to end up nicer).
