101- I do this all the freaking time. Me and my roommate have wardrobes instead of closets in our flat, and for the longest time he thought I had some kind of mild ocd because I would always tap the back of mine when I opened it and his whenever it was opened.

Oddly enough given the wolfling backstory, humans are just one of the species involved and generally they aren't regarded as anything other than another species. They got a couple of things that others either respect or hate them for, but then so do the other species as well. It's not nearly as human glorifying as most sci fi. So your worry is unfounded. (You do realize this is the second Trilogy).

Can't help you with your Ecco the Dolphin hate.

I've heard conflicting things. The fact that humans seem to be oh-so-special with the whole "we don't have a patron and we didn't enslave our upliftees, tee hee" really put me off. There are more ways to be Stumans than going out and out-awesoming everything else.

And yeah, I know it's one of the later books. I just hear about Startide Rising so much as it was the lone qualification Brin seemed to have to write for the 3D Ecco game.

138. The use of the words "settled it" made me think that perhaps you're overthinking it. I just hate the thought of someone having a 'year and a half' struggle over something that doesn't really need to be defined in the first place. You don't have to be one thing or the other. Like who you like. People, not parts, and all that good stuff. I know I'm probably reading too much into it, but that's the impression that I got.

140. It really makes me sad that people don't care about writers more. Actors are great and everything, and in some cases pretty to look at, but when it comes down to it fandom wouldn't exist without the writers. And yet they rarely get any love. :(

137. Princess Eilonwy! Man, it's been ages since I've seen that. I remember when I first learned of its existence... the thought of an animated Disney movie being rated PG due to inclusion of an army of Hellspawn made me need to see it RIGHT AWAY.

What happened?

He messed up some tendons in his knee during dance practice I believe, and had to have surgery to correct it. The surgery left him on crutches for a few months. He missed out on a bunch of the touring at the time, and was only able to appear on stage during their performance at the awards in Korea because they basically had him on a chair on a platform behind the band to sing his part; he wasn't able to dance along with the rest of them.

IDK I think it's cruel to say it was a publicity stunt. If the doctors had been unable to fix his knee it would've ended his career with the rest of the group.

164. Oh man, I LOVE the uplift series!!! The humans are definitely not the most interesting, or even the main, characters. The neochimps and the Tymbrimi are the best. I would totally do Fiben Bolger, if er, he weren't a chimp. What did David Brin do to Ecco? My son used to love that game when he was really little.

Well, that's kinda nice to hear. The Stuey backstory still kind of puts me on edge, though.

Anyway, Brin wrote the storyline for the 3D Ecco the Dolphin game.

To clarify, that's the one that's in a completely different universe from the old 2D ones, drips humans everywhere into what was a xenofiction series with them nearly completely absent for once, and he hadn't even heard of the series when he was hired.

I could forgive it as "eh, money" if he hadn't years later gotten "his" game confused with the Genesis ones - he made a blog post advertising the Genesis Ecco games for Virtual Console while apparently thinking he wrote the story. Yeah, you wish, Mr. Brin.

It opened some old wounds and led to the secret.

160. I think it's just taken from the same basic idea. To truly save the world, you do have to be fairly evil (because it will involve being willing to sacrifice others).

Wait... what? Define "evil" better please. (Haven't seen the movie in question, so maybe it's well founded. Still, a lot of people wouldn't define evil that way.)
