"I wanted to suggest that there could be a separate comment thread for each secret, but someone already suggested it and there was a concern about loading times.

I would rather bear the longer loading times for separate comment threads for each secret than painstakingly search for responses to specific secrets on each page of comments (and then going back to look if anyone's responded since last check).

There are other benefits as well:
- Questions about a specific secret (Eg. What episode is this secret from?) can be answered once for everyone without being repeatedly asked and answered over the course of 10+ pages.
- It could encourage people to comment on a secret that doesn't have any comments yet.
- It would save the Ctrl and F buttons of keyboards everywhere.

Could there at least be a poll about this suggestion please?"

At least you still give as an opt out, pfffff.

[identity profile] blackjackrocket.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe something like 1-25, 26-50, etc, and a thread for "what's that from?"

I love you. I was thinking of suggesting this ages ago, but figured I'd keep my yap shut. By all means, do this!!!

I say give it a test run?

[identity profile] sjorn.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean make a seperate post for every single secret? idgi.

[identity profile] sjorn.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wait, comment thread.

Sure, that sounds good.

Noooooooooooooo! That idea makes no sense D:<

I mean, it seems to me that most of us comment on several secrets -- not just one. That would mean we'd have to post a bunch of replies to the appropriate threads! How time-consuming (and plain dumb) isn't that?

[identity profile] ook.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS! People would have to waste a lot of time, trying to find the sub-threads to post in.

Part of the fun is searching for comments, but I do wish that people would simply list the (often obscure) fandom, episode, title, character names, at the bottom of their damn secret! (as part of the secret image). IMO, fandom!secrets should be about a person's secret desires, not playing "Let's Guess The Obscure Fandom."

Let's try it out for a couple days or a week and repoll.

[identity profile] arhh.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Would most like unfriend / unwatch and not bother if they were posted individually. Perhaps posting ten or twenty secrets in a post and having multiple posts- but one post for each secret? No way.

[identity profile] arhh.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, sorry- I must learn to have coffee before reading something. Okay- comment thread is one thing, but I thought you meant one post for each secret. Oh boy. I am going to hide now.

[identity profile] reppu.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My God, that would be awesome. I usually only want to read up on five or six obscure posts, but then I have to slog through everyone's thoughts on yaoi before I get there. I don't really care about the load times, and trying it at least once can't hurt, right?

[identity profile] kaatsu.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This! I usually only want to read discussion about a few secrets, but there's no way I'm Ctrl+Fing through heaps of pages about other things.

I pondered this. I mean, it would mean OPs could track responses too, and it'd be easier finding comments, especially after the rush was over :)

It might make comments massive, but they *are* massive already, by the end of the rush, anyway.

Go for it!

[identity profile] oohasparklie.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good idea, but damn that sounds like a lot of work for you.

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I said no, because I think it is a bit of a hassle to go have to post a new comment for ever secret that one wants to respond to, and that means that some commenters will be discouraged from commenting on more then one secret.

I also think it will be more trouble loading, because there will be so many large threads, whereas now the loading is more spread out and what not. Longer Comment threads are much harder to go through and read for discussion, so I really don't know if it would be that much of a time saver.

Also, it would pretty much make the expand tool worthless, because once you get to a certain point it will become aggravating, and you will still for long enough threads have to keep clicking on each thread to see more discussion, which I think makes these things much more difficult to read.

To be honest, I would rather just post one comment with responses to secrets, as opposed to a bunch of different things, particularly if my comment isn't going to be that long.

Oh goddd, am I the only person who LIKES ctrl+F-ing through a bunch of comment pages, seeing everyone's crazyrandom thoughts about other secrets as I go? This idea seems like a whole bunch of work to organize. I really like being able to post comments with multiple secrets in them, seriously - plus if you have a couple of controversial secrets in one thread and everyone's commenting and replying to comments and debating in that thread, it'll be huge and disgusting, more like an anon meme than a treasure hunt.

but that is just me, idk. Don't we already have Week In Review? What if you tried secret threads in there? That means if you have a secret you're just dying to talk about it'll make things more organized there, while the original secrets post won't have a friggin' massive loading time.

[identity profile] notoriousnougat.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I originally was going to agree, then I realised that if the seperate threads for each secret are done for Week in Review, won't there have to be like 7x50+ threads? >.> That's really not helping.....

[identity profile] kaiya-chan.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be amazing - I get tired of searching for responses to specific secrets, so this would definitely make things easier! I say go for it!

[identity profile] sineala.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you repost the secret in each comment? That would be even more time-consuming, I'm sure, but for the ultimate in convenience -- scroll to secret, click "reply to this", etc etc.

Not that it is necessarily viable, but it would eliminate even the need to remember the secret number. Which would, you know, save time.

[identity profile] raykat.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the try and re-poll option. Nothing wrong with experimenting! :D

[identity profile] sparky-ld.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know how much of a fan of this I'd be, but I don't think it'd hurt to just try it for a week then repoll.

[identity profile] star-fire13.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] saramiskismet.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's try it first so that we all have a good grasp on the benefits/consequences before making the final decision.

[identity profile] oceanica.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like it could be good, could be bad. I'm up for at least giving it a shot and seeing how it actually works out.

[identity profile] dreaming-faerie.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember ljsecret did something like this. Worked pretty well for a while (at least I thought so). I really think it should be given a whirl, or at least tried and then repolled.

Stop trying to make fandomsecrets more retarded, for Christ's sake.

The 'week in review' thing is stupid enough. Why are you putting so much more work on yourself? OH NO, the poor secret makers have to CLICK PAGES and use CTRL+F OH THE HUMANITY

Seriously, this is stupid as shit. No. Please, no.

Nah, this is a crappy idea. It will make commenting on multiple secrets a pain, and part of the fun of reading the comments is searching through them, IMO.

Also, how will it be enforced? If someone decides to say "Screw the official thread" and comments on secrets separately, will they be banned? What if they comment anon?

Just seems like a lot more work for everyone and logistically unworkable in the long run anyway.
