...I think you just don't like her.

All your complaints seem like you're nitpicking to cover up that you just didn't like her personally. Making non-meat proteins is a time honored vegetarian tradition so this isn't really anything odd. And two of the four focal points were women of color so to say it was 'so white' seems pretty disingenuous (Portland is not as ethnically diverse as LA. It just isn't) And really? You're going to nitpick on how you didn't like her facial expressions when she was talking about her childhood? That's low.

Your first paragraph sounds reasonable. The second one sounds insensitive. Even if you don't want to watch her relive her anxiety (understandable), anyone with a normal healthy amount of compassion should be able to understand why she had it instead of going "WTF."

Kids throw away lunches their parents make for them just because they don't like them. Throwing a lunch away to escape anxiety over being bullied for "weird" food is downright reasonable. (And I say this as someone who thinks it's overboard to accuse other kids of being racist if they don't want to eat with you because they don't like the way your food smells and thinks schools should ban pungent foods of all types and cultural backgrounds. You don't have to eat with the kid whose lunch bothers you, just be nice about it.)

Re: What is your favorite Laurence Fishburne movie?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
He was pretty hot in Othello.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I completely agree with this comment (and I think vegan pork belly sounds potentially yum).

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I think he should come back but not as Bond, just as his own thing

or let him be Simon Templar again, he was amazing as Templar

With focus being on the different cities, I liked seeing a vegatarian focused food in there. There was so much emphasis on either bbq or fried meats in most every other food cart that seeing something different was nice.

Agreed.

“Boring and obvious” makes sense to me (he’s such a well-known name associated with a certain type of mythologized/nostalgic Britishness, with decent recognition in the US and other markets)… but I can’t quite tell if you think he was bad casting in other ways.

Re: What is your favorite Laurence Fishburne movie?

The answer is unquestionably The Matrix, it's one of my favorite movies and he's truly amazing in it. His performance is iconic and a huge part of what makes the movie great.

However I also want to shout out his performance as a 17-year-old, credited as Larry Fishburne, in Apocalypse Now

LOLOL

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I think he might be a bit too dead to play either role anymore.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming for the purposes of the exercise that we figure out a way to return the dead to life

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
This movie taught me how worm holes and warp drive (theoretically) work. It also is why I took latin in high school.

A baaad choice.

Not an answer, but weird trivia from IMDb

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
In looking up his filmography, I discovered he apparently had an uncredited role in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang…

…as the voice of the bear in the fake beer commercial.

“I prefer Genaros, but what do I know? I’m a bear, I suck the heads off fish!”

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
You are absolutely being a hater but I honestly do have to kind of respect how much of a hater you're being

Ahhh, with necromancy, I agree with you!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith know

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Can you elaborate on how/why?

I'm going to disagree.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
And it's actually based on the image used in the secret. Because the dilated eye looked greener, I went and looked at some close-up pictures. It looks like he has sectoral heterochromia, where the iris is different colors. In his undilated eye, there's blue with some sporadic yellowish green. In his dilated eye, the green seems more prominent in that outer ring that can be seen, though there is some blue. Now without the injury-dilation, they might appear pretty similar, or one might look bluer and the other greener, I don't know, but he does have multi-colored eyes.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Now that'd be a movie I'd love to watch.

Petty fandom rants

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so annoyed that all but a couple of the fics for my cute, fluffy new OTP is all dark and fucked up. I LIKE dark and fucked up stuff, when it fits the pairing/fandom, but in this case I just want fluffy and adorable. I've learned recently, though, that it's apparently common that cute/fluffy ships get dark fics and vice versa. Somehow I've completely missed that in all my years of fandom, and I don't like it. :(

OP

(Anonymous) 2022-10-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think beyond the fact that it's boring and obvious, Fry's persona reads as intrinsically arch and ironic to me in a way that I don't think is right for the character. So the character feels tonally off, and it reinforces the idea that he was cast for no other reason than because he's already well-known and he has the right body type.

Needs more Jason Isaacs.
