Yeah, no, it's technically incorrect. Does the term get used for genres it's not applicable to? Yes. Does it mean that there is only one single type of isekai and it's the one ayrt talks about? Absolutely not.

It's very case-dependant for me. The thing is, I have read novels where the whole "original body had loved ones and they'd be/are heartbroken once they find out" is touched upon and then never mentioned again and... look, as soon as the media actually does acknowledge it but chooses to ignore it afterwards, it bothers me. In some cases, there actually is some sort of closure for the loved ones though, and I appreciate that.

Re: What season of what show was the worst you've ever seen?

Really? Worse than Chibnall deciding the Doctor would be pro-Amazon?

God, I hope purity pandering doesn't hit real filmmaking or we will all be bored to tears.

Have you heard the theory (based on Malenia's cut dialogue) that there was supposed to be a quest with her culminating in the boss fight? And this quest most likely ended up being repurposed into Millicent's, meaning that Millicent was originally intended to be an amnesiac Malenia and by helping her we would have been progressing toward fighting and killing her?

I think about that every day.

Urgh, they were really good. An awful instance of real life writing the plot.

Yeah, in retrospect Sherlock was mostly bad. Even when it wasn't outright dogshit I wasn't really ever impressed, just waiting kinda for it to get better... which it never did.

I actually liked quite a bit of SG:U - Robert Carlyle's character in particular, Brian J. and Jamil Smith, Ming-na Wen, Lou Diamond Phillips.... There was a lot about it that was really interesting, or cool, or intriguing. I just wish its whole conception and launch had been handled very differently, because it would have been nice to have another season or so, and more fans to talk to about it.

Oh well!

Jeez Louise, what a mess! Glad you got rid of them, but wowza. That's a financial hit!

No, listen, you can't use so-bad-it's-good in this context.

Also... Code of Honor.

Marina isn't Indian wearing Indian clothes tho...

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. You're exempt. There's plenty of people saying she looks, and I quote, "like she would be homeless."

But also she's from a pop band so like. I don't see her wearing more traditional outfits???

The giant forehead is an Indian thing........

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
omg op this is exactly how I feel too!! I think the original status quo could have been explored more, instead of turning the show into something a bit different.

In I'm the Villainess so I'm Taming the Final Boss, Aileen's personality doesn't get overwritten at all. Her regained memories drive the conflict but she's the same person she always was. I feel the same as the OP so I really love that about it. Plus it's just really good.

Season 4 of Miami Vice is ridiculous and terrible. The plots of some of these episodes are utter nonsense, and I'm really confused as to what made this happen.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
When I rewatched Mash as an adult this episode absolutely wrecked me and now I think it's one of the best ones. Very difficult to watch and maybe if you're going by your childhood memories, it seems too surreal or gross or misplaced among all the comedy, but it's fucking incredibly done and has a really devastating message behind it.

Oh hey, I'm reading a BL webtoon right now that features this and the body of the person the main character ends up taking over belonged to a complete and utter asshole of a sex-crazed, washed out actor and druggie with an equally shitty family and the new guy is just like 'welp, fixing all of this shit'

it's going pretty well, actually

Last season of Voltron. Oof.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-05 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I had not heard that and it would have been amazing and it makes me even more sad that’s not what we got. My clown shoes are tied in tight though. I’m holding out hope we haven’t seen the last of her since she’s (potentially) only bloomed twice.

season 7 of buffy was hot trash, with the cast and crew demonstrably not giving a flying fuck about anything that happened at any moment (season 6 was ugly, but at least the people involved appeared to care about it)

martha's season of dr who - the whole "pining after somebody who's pining after someone else" thing got old within one and a half episodes

think buffy's a sequel not a remake

I love the 2011 Fright Night too because it's the Buffy movie we never had.

A blonde teen lives with his single Mom. He learns that vampires are real and can't save a classmate from being attacked. That classmate later returns as a vampire (Jesse from the Buffy pilot).

There's a moment in Buffy where Spike tells the gang that while vampires can't enter the house without being invited nothing can stop them from burning the house down if they want.

David Tennant's character is basically Spike (particularly at the end with the leather duster) but with Giles' knowledge from his collection of writings and weapons. He even refers to the teen characters as the Scooby Gang.

And then the credits roll and the screenwriter is revealed to be Marti Noxon and everything makes sense.
