It looks like OP didn't realise how porny it was, and after avoiding engaging with their mutuals who were into it for so long they feel like it would be awkward to bring up their enthusiasm with them, but also the other fans seem more into the porn than the plot so they've no obvious circle to squee about it in.

Like... idk, I play this game and there really is no plot to speak of. Just enough "stuff happens" to string together gay sex scenes with pretty boys (whose personalities are just tropes vaguely held together with cum and duct tape). So any emotional investment would likely be from headcanons and coming up with your own stories about them-- which is great! The fandom also does that, amidst the porn, so it's rich to judge.

I don't think it's a Gen Z thing. I was on fandom!secrets back when it lived on LJ, and one of the most contentious recurring topics involved secrets with the general frame of "if you do X, I judge you." Or "I can understand X, but if you do Y, I'm side-eyeing that so hard."

A lot of those opinions seemed sexual, inappropriate, and petty to me. There seemed to be a concerted effort to try to shift the community agreement away from Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And That's Okay.

Some people in fandom seemed very driven to try to convince everyone else that their amount of prejudice was the IDEAL amount of prejudice. And that it was against the right things. And they certainly weren't "kids these days."

No but I totally get what you mean, OP. Not regarding Nu Carnival (really I didn't play it because of how explicit it seemed to be, not in the sexy way, and too complicated to install; but I do know there's a guy who looks vaguely like Diluc so I did consider it one day) but there *are* some pieces of media with fandoms that are TOO full of horny fangirls/boys/what-have-you. This is, in fact, my biggest pet peeve with otome games fandoms like maybe I wouldn't dislike them so much if I could get past this pet peeve. On the other hand, BL manga fandom is surprisingly chill and comfy... for a porn genre. People actually discuss their innermost feelings occasionally. Crazy.

So, yeah. Even though everyone else seems to disagree, maybe I do get where you're coming from. Some fandoms ARE too full of squeeing for me as well

I don't know this game either, but I can relate to feeling like you want a lot more meta than you're finding, in a particular fandom. There's times when porn has been my fallback, because there's usually still some plot and I get to see other people's take on the characters in more depth than the formulaic praise in (inarticulate, short-form) squee.

Because you mentioned Diluc, I ran into this exact issue in relation to Genshin Impact recently. If you know of anywhere people go to write long essays about Enjou (for example), instead of calling him a himbo and gushing briefly about the hot, I would like to know that.

I feel like a lot of people are coming into this as if you're being judgmental, OP (the only assumption I see is you assuming the entirety of fandom is made up of horny fan girls, which is possible, but I'm not getting omg I'm better than u plebs vibes from this secret). What I'm really seeing is someone who feels that they missed the boat, and now doesn't know where to reach out to talk about something other than the porn.

I say this as someone who's usually in a fandom because MC is so hot, they melt my panties, but occasionally really gets into the character themselves or the dynamics of the world.

I think just put some feelers out, OP. Get a sock/alt account, make your own blog/Tumblr/whatever and just post the meta you're interested in. Tag accordingly, and maybe you'll get some people joining you.
