I want to try watercolour painting!!! It's been my dream forever, but I was too traumatised (couldn't go to art school in high school, my art teacher in middle school harrassed and sexually molested me, my mother and older sister told me my art sucked when I was a kid etc etc lol) to give it a try until recently.
I already bought some supplies and I'm waiting for them to arrive. It's going to suck. I'm going to suffer. But fuck it. I'm 30 years old and I'm going to do it NOW.

I want to improve my target languages, too. Reaching almost business level in Russian and relearning all those Japanese kanji I forgot (I knew 1800, now I remember 1000 I think) would be great. I can still understand Japanese without much problems, but I can't write that well now. And damn I forgot a lot of kanjis' readings.

Thank you! Happy new year to everyone! <3

My first day was kind of good, actually. I watched some Law & Order and organized my bujo for the new year.

Threatening to flounce so that people beg them not to (or beg them to come back) is classic drama llama behaviour. I suspect you're better off not interacting with this person at all.

OH this is me with Evangelion. Last month I decided that I wanted to watch the new movies and it's been a month in which I reread the manga two times, rewatched the entire original series, replayed two eva games and read every kawoshin fanfic and doujinshi I could find (THERE IS A LOT).

I'm sorry you have this problem, too. I hope you have as much fun as I do, at least.

I watched two episodes (I try not to judge shows by their pilot after bailing on Person of Interest after its incredibly shitty pilot then really enjoying it later) and yeah, you're absolutely correct. It's bog-standard procedural with one twist slapped on it which is never actually explored in an interesting way. Or at all, really.

I could absolutely hear that wail, A+ onomatopoeia!

Have you considered, not being Jewish yourself, that those Jewish people may be projecting their own experiences on the characters? Jewish atheists are really, really common.

I have a similar hyperfixation problem too. I pretty much never truly move on from or lose interest in most of the things I hyperfixate on completely, I’m just am not as into it for awhile as I was. And then I pick it back up months to years later, sometimes out of nowhere. And then that’s pretty much all I think about for a couple of weeks. Rinse, repeat. I’ve always found it exhausting. When it was a character and not just a whole show, I would sometimes think “is this what love feels like? I kinda hate it”. When I was a kid I would even call it “lovesickness”, because I would be so into something and love it so much that I got a kind of unpleasant sick feeling to go with the giddy happy feelings.

Re your first point, without knowing what particular issues you're concerned about, and assuming you don't have access to therapy to talk through it, I offer the following suggestions -

Sometimes people adopt a defensive/hostile demeanour to ultimately protect themselves from hurt/rejection. Ie, 'You can't reject me if I reject you first'.

Sometimes people get hung up in perfectionism in their life, and think that if everything isn't picture-perfect than the whole thing's rotten. The relevant phrase is 'don't let perfect be the enemy of good'.

And sometimes people hold views you disagree with, but you are able to be friends with them anyway. And sometimes through your friendship you can change their mind. This obviously depends on the issue you disagree on, but this path is an option for net good.

Just putting these ideas here in case they are useful in thinking through how you can let yourself be more open. Please ignore if they are not.

I want to travel again. I’m thinking Egypt or India, as I’ve been to Europe twice and want to experience something different.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I’ve seen a lot of this lately. Someone not naming something specifically, but giving out more than enough information to find out what it is, and people getting mad still that they won’t just say what it is. Someone on Twitter was talking about how weird they found it that people aren’t talking more about Miracle Workers, the TBS show. They didn’t name it specifically, but they did say that it starred Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi, and gave a brief summary while saying each season is an anthology format that places the characters in different settings. And most of the responses were people yelling at them for not saying the show’s name. Now, I had already seen the show, so I immediately knew what they were talking about. But even if I hadn’t, they gave so much information that could make for an easy Google search. As far as I know, there’s only one thing that has both Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi in the same space.

So while I don’t quite know why people don’t name the work they’re talking about sometimes, I also don’t get why people can’t just try to look it up themselves with the information given instead of getting on their case for not naming it. If they give no information, then that’s a different story. But that’s not the case here or there.

I want to play more DnD. Which is to say any DnD because I didn't really play any last year.

I also want to travel around a bit. Spending the weekend in a city over and screwing around.

Yeah, I'd never put it like this unanon. I have to say that I'm salty about all my online arguments, always have been.

Haha, unlikely - Hoyolab is an app designed by the game dev company Hoyoverse of Genshin Impact fame.

It's quite handy for teapot design sharing. I also hate the main Genshin reddit due to the moderators stance on male nudity and male gay content.

I hope you enjoy your painting! Painting a watercolour with either my paints or brush pens is one thing I'd like to do this year too!
