Sometimes people like to have their own copies to reread whenever they want. Libraries also keep track of which books are popular and the more in demand a book is, the more new copies they will buy.

Percy Jackson is meh tho. So is Harry Potter for the most part, but it holds nostalgic value for a lot of us that won't be fixed by reading another mediocre kids fantasy series for the first time.

The HP books are among the all-time bestsellers in the English language. Nobody's ever going to be in a situation of "I'm desperate to read HP, but there are no copies for sale, I'll have to resort to the library." I'd be surprised if any of them are even out-of-print! And if they are, there are still millions of secondhand copies to be had.

Even in a world where OP was decreasing the supply enough for anyone to notice...and where everybody who wanted to read them checked them out from the library...the library copies will wear out eventually, and the libraries will order new copies. With all the royalties to JKR that that implies.

Let's be real, "buying all the digital copies to delete them" would be about as effective as what OP is doing now.

It's time for the twice-a-year LOTR LARP. If only it wasn't going to be cloudy/rainy, I feel like observing the partial solar eclipse five minutes before Middle Earth officially goes to war is on brand.

Anyway I'm playing Celeborn so I can hang out at Lothlorien all day. My knee is not up to marching all the way to Rivendell and back.

I don't know why I was thinking it was a 90s show, it just feels like it has been around longer than it actually has.

It'd be better to spend your time and effort on evangelizing to anyone who will listen about how badly written the books are.

Knowing Jo is a terf makes me regret not shitting on her books more back in the day. When I do it now, people think I'm just mad at Rowling's transphobia, which I am, but I genuinely disliked the Harry Potter books from the first page I read.

There are so many copies in circulation (new and used) that this likely doesn't have much impact one way or another. I don't see this as either a win against JKR or the book burning some replies have made it out to be. If it's cathartic I suppose that's a reason to do it, but to me it seems fruitless and wasteful, since anyone else buying the book secondhand is already not paying that money to JKR, and the cost you're putting into this nonsense could go to supporting trans-related organizations or directly to trans individuals in need of support, if bettering trans people's lives is important to you. I even have my suspicions this secret may be a troll, since I find the idea quite silly to be honest. I am not a fan of JKR whatsoever but I feel that focusing on the Harry Potter books alone is pretty pointless and reduces the issue to a purely fandom gripe.

Well, I've already mentioned in this comm that I have two 20k word fics still unfinished, not to mention a 130k word fic I semi-abandoned years ago (have no faith I have what it takes to finish it, fear I'll just fuck up the ending like so many TV writers fuck up their finales... even though however someone else ruins their project has no bearing on mine), one already 11k word fic in progress with a likely sequel, and a bunch of ideas for a rarepair and one-shot outlines for my current OTP.

Probably won't do Kinktober but I hope to finish the current fic before the end of the year.
