Was driving home from my sister's house. It is a 2.5 hour drive where I take a bathroom break at the 1.5 hour mark. Get to gas station and go to pay for some donuts for the kids. Realize I don't have my wallet in my bag. So, had to drive 40 minutes back to meet my sister with it. So my 2.5 hour drive turned into a 4 hour one. -____-

Fucking everything, mate. If I touched it I either dropped it or broke it. Plus work doesn't know what time I am starting tomorrow morning. I am either on at 8am, or 8pm. Could be either, I need to call in at 7am to find out when the relevant manager comes to work to unlock the system. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Today at work, a stranger tapped me on the shoulder, giving me a panic attack. I don't know what it is about me that seems to invite people to try and talk to me. Is it the giant headphones? The perpetual scowl? The fact that I'm obviously busy? Have a little sense and go to the front desk. There are good reasons my job isn't supposed to involve talking to people. This is the first time they've done more than hover obnoxiously, though.

But at least I'm not throwing up like I was for the first few days after getting my booster shot, so that's nice?

It's been a long week.

The goth event I went to wasn't serving food (they sometimes do but not last night) and the only place open nearby was a scoop Chinese place I hadn't been to in years that changed staff and really went downhill without me knowing it. Eurgh.

Parking at various spots of out weekend destination was a bit of a nightmare. I had to do more parallel parking than I have in a while, and my success rate was about two thirds.

The movie is trash but I actually love the costumes in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

we went to pick my sister and her family up from the airport and mum’s car battery completely died. we were stuck waiting 2 hrs for assistance bc mum wanted to use the jumper cables in my sister’s car rather than call for assist tho she’s a member of the local road side assistance.

I’ve done it twice with her now and I’ve been right both times.

What movies have your favorite costuming? What has the worse?

Re: Based on 1

(Anonymous) 2023-10-15 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the whole movie but A Knight's Tale had mostly faux-historical costuming that wasn't horrendous but then you have most of the costumes for the female lead and they're just a trainwreck. And yeah, I know, the movie plays a lot with fully intentional anachronisms but her costumes are the only ones that a entirely out of place.

I do love Braveheart, but the costumes are not historically accurate for any time period ever.

I love anything Eiko Ishioka has done. Though I think The Fall was her best work.

I loved the costuming in LOTR and The Hobbit movies, even though I didn't enjoy the latter as media.

And I remember seeing some behind the scenes stuff on Game of Thrones' costume work, specifically hand embroidery on some of the gowns that was really cool, even though I wasn't interested in watching the show at all.

I love the outfits on the chorus in Little Shop of Horrors, especially the red ones with the fringe, the green cheongsams with the gold dragons and the purple sparkly ones.

lmao it's getting ripped upon in the comments on 1 but I love Reign's look. Is it historically accurate? LOL NO. but the show isn't either. The show was a hilarious mess up of dangling plotlines that were never resolved, bizarre one-off stories that should have had impacts but didn't, the occasional gut punch to the feelings, and a gleeful ruination of all historical accuracy.

But the costumes are pretty. Sure, they're costumey and some are weird, but they're pretty. The people in the show are pretty. It's a fun show. I liked it a lot. It's a popcorn show though, where you need to turn your brain off and just go with it. It's pretty people in pretty clothes being walking disasters.

Secret Follow-Up (TSwift MovieGoer)

(Anonymous) 2023-10-15 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So last week my comment was posted as a secret (thanks secret maker!) about how I didn't attend the Eras tour live because I didn't want to go alone and now wished I could find a similar fan-heavy experience for the movie.

Several people made the assumption that I was afraid to go out by myself. As long as I'm writing this I may as well clear up that point: I go to movies and shows by myself all the time. The reason I never considered seeing the tour alone is because those arenas a massive, far away, and I didn't think it was a safe situation for a lone young woman at night.

Anyway, I was encouraged by people to go see the movie because there would be other Swift fans there and that would break barriers and make the experience feel great. Y'all got me pumped. I deliberately chose a showing where most of the seats were shown online as not available, thinking there'd be a packed house singing along and cheering.

Long story short: there wasn't. It was me, one other Swiftie about three rows back and three gen-exers who were clearly there to make fun of the situation. (I literally heard the words "teeny boppers" coming from them.) It was not at all conducive to singing along or cheering, and while I liked the movie, without other people's energy the whole experience was isolating.

So yeah, next time someone asks about where to look for fan-organized viewing parties, tell them how to search, maybe not come out with a bunch of cheerful affirmations made on an assumption.

Prelim reports from reddit are suggesting the type of crowd at each showing is incredibly variable. Some have had the party crowds, some have had a quieter vibe. I got a pretty quiet vibe and I was happy with it. I'm sorry you didn't get the vibe you wanted.

I have an acquaintance who's acting like it's the end of the world because her child is sick. This is her ex's fault, somehow, and all good things are now spoiled, inspiring Great Lamentations on social media.

Kids get sick. Mine's got one illness or another for practically the whole school year, because children are germ factories. It's completely normal, and need not be treated like a catastrophe. In fact, treating it like a catastrophe is arguably bad for the mental health of the child.

I don't know what the point of this is. I think it's that I'm slowly realizing I don't want this person in my life, and this is yet another example of why, especially since she's blaming her ex for ruining her day when the child doesn't seem to have gotten the sickness from the ex.
