Fantastic Four, certainly. Multiverse of Madness was such a horrible introduction to them.

Dubs always. I have stuff to do that doesn't involve having to keep my eyes glued to a screen to catch what is going on. I have to multi task here.

The franchise owner is Hannibal Lecter.

Power levels do not matter to most fans and should not matter in most creative works

Anytime I'm given a choice where I can choose subs, I'm going to choose subs

Dubs mostly. I use subs when I'm working on my Spanish.

I don't read comics. But I thought that Scarlett Witch was a top tier superhero with more power than most.

There are quite a few c-dramas I enjoyed, but Nirvana in Fire was my first and I feel like nothing has reached it so far. Haven't seen either of those two.

Most times I prefer subs but I'm not adverse to dubs. If I like a certain thing a lot I'll give the subs a try on rewatches. There are a few times I prefer the dubs over the subs.

In the early seasons (I believe I've only ever seen the first 5 seasons dubbed), I loved and preferred the English dubbed version of Case Closed.

I also love and prefer the English dubs for Samurai Champloo.

I like both the original versions and the English dubs for Death Note and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

There's a nostalgic joy I get from the Sailor Moon dubs but I definitely prefer the original audio version.

I like to hear both the original versions and the English dubs for Studio Ghibli films. Most times I prefer the original versions but some dubs I really appreciate.

Haha I was thinking along the same lines. I remember my early days in anime fanspaces and it was subs or gtfo for ~true fans~

I've never really cared much, it was more whatever version I saw first was the only acceptable one for me.

subs mostly

There is the rare exception

Subs 100%. For media in foreign languages, it’s more fun to me to hear how it originally sounded, and for things in English, I can’t understand it without captions anyway. Something something auditory processing.

My preferred English sub is Yu Yu Hakusho, so I totally agree.

Sometimes it just works!

Doesn't excuse the way Reed went out like a chump though. That wasn't even a redshirt level death. A horrible introduction to a hero who is also supposed to be one of the universe's most capable. I'd say the same about Black Bolt, but nobody gives a crap about the inhumans anyway, they are not going to be an ongoing part of the MCU going forward.

At least Xavier went out with compassion and empathy, more Obi Wan-esque than anything else. He was trying to help Wanda, not hurt her.

Dubs. Unless you were raised in the original culture, you are not going to understand the nuances of the dialogue or performance anyway, you are always going to get it filtered through your own first language and native culture's prejudices and contextual understanding. You might as well have a good dub instead, it'll capture the intended tone of the show more.

This is a strange debate for me. For my own native language, the only things that always get dubbed are children's shows and movies, because it's assumed they can't read at the level needed for subs. Everything else gets subtitles.

You are denying that the CIA has used Hollywood as an instrument of propaganda and to subsume other cultures in a way that is more subservient to US policy?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the total opposite for me. I hate listening to dubbed dialogue (even if the voice actors are good) and I put on subtitles on English audio tracks anyway, subs don't bother me. If I don't know the original language I'm subs all the way.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know why you would think just repeating it would make me leave?

Subs for me, always.
