Entertainment news (warning for discussion of sexual assault)

Are we surprised, or not?

I'm surprised *shrugs*

Keep in mind the allegations are being largely revealed by Boris Johnson's sister and not a source with ANY ounce of reputation.

Yeah. But what Gaiman's admitted to is already pretty skeevy, i.e. fucking your child's nanny. That would also explain his weird flight from NZ during COVID lockdown where he spent the better part of a year on the Isle of Skye while his wife and child were in NZ.

It's a pretty big jump from fucking your child's nanny to sexual assault.

Quit buying into TERFs wanting to fuck up and discredit trans allies. You're going to prove to them that they can do this willy nilly and they'll start accusing EVERYONE they hate of it.

This. The best case scenario makes him look like a huge sleazeball, and his reaction to the accusations has been pretty weird.

As a nanny myself, all I can say is gross.

Honestly? I see what you’re saying but I’m not ready to dismiss the accusations based on who reported them. That no one else is reporting
them is concerning but not in the way it is to you. You seem to think that automatically discredits them whereas my concern is that the media isn’t willing to acknowledge the accusations against one of their darlings just yet. I’ll reserve judgement about Gaimen until we know more. I suspect the major media outlets are doing pretty much the same thing hoping they either never have to report or if they do that they’ll have substantial information, not just that accusations were made.

I'm not. There've been rumors about him hitting on younger women for years, and there's a hell of a power imbalance involved in a wealthy employer sleeping with their kid's nanny.

Re: Entertainment news (warning for discussion of sexual assault)

(Anonymous) 2024-07-04 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I actually like some of Gaiman's work and his tumblr persona, although I don't follow his blog or anything. I've loved Sandman for 25+ years and Good Omens for even longer. I liked Anansi Boys and Stardust. And I'm glad he's been including LGBT+ people in his work for decades, long before it was even as common as it is now.

But I also remember hearing about him sleeping with fans decades ago. Which doesn't equal sexual assault, but could've been skeevy depending on how old said fans were and if he was cheating on anyone by doing so.

And I really dislike that apparently his denial included an accusation that one of his accusers had "false memories" of him assaulting her. That's a vile way to cast doubt on someone by accusing them of being nuts and not just of lying, and makes me like him less even if he's telling the truth.

It's always possible he didn't do what he's been accused of, and I'm guessing that whether or not the allegations are true, this particular outfit went digging for dirt on him because it's run by transphobic bigots.

It's also unfortunately possible that Gaiman is the one with false memories of what he did, or rather, that he convinced himself it was all consensual because he was a hot young author/distinguished award-winning author so why wouldn't anyone want to sleep with him? It's not his fault they had second thoughts later. /sleezeball POV

I dunno. If the reportage is made up or twisting consensual sex that some women he slept with later regretted into outright assault, then that's really shitty and another example of terfs reaching new levels of assholery.

If it's not, that's even shittier and also dude maybe don't put yourself out there as a progressive ally for literal decades on one hand and assault people on the other. When/if this shit gets found out, people who hate everything you said you stand for will use it as evidence that it tarnishes the causes you championed, the people you worked with who trusted you, and the people you claimed to help and protect. And also rapists deserve to be drop-kicked into a piranha tank.

Reserve judgement.
Tbf he has not so perfect tendencies, his whole thing in NZ was a mess etc, but I don't care enough about them frankly

Welcome to the age when TERFs are reputable and anything else is just silencing the truth.

God, the world is fucked.

I want independent confirmation of details before I believe anything. The author of the article about this is apparently Boris Johnson's sister, so I have immediate doubts.

It’s on other news sources and it’s confirmed that the nanny filed a criminal complaint in NZ in October 2022 that’s still an open investigation.

Fascinating how it's always "believe all women" ... until the accused man is someone's holy cow fave and the person bringing it up is someone they don't like/don't agree with. Then it's "we need to wait" and "she's probably lying".

If this was a more conservative author and a more leftist accuser you guys would lap it up and already be sharpening your pitchforks and you know it. Hypocrites.

I mean, yeah, the type of woman who would, herself, say any other woman who accuses a man she (herself) is cozy with of lying for personal gain IS going to sound more doubtful herself when she does it about a man she already doesn't like. Pointing that out's not political bias, it's just common sense.

It's nothing to do with Gaiman. I don't even LIKE his works.

It's EVERYTHING to do with her being a horrible person whose brother supports Miss Maxwell of Pedo Island.

But sure, Conservaturd, Heil Trump, whatever. I'm sure Boris Johnson will allow you to suck his dick.

I understand the frustration, but not willing to allow anyone room for grace/clarity detracts from the issue at hand.

Re: Entertainment news (warning for discussion of sexual assault)

The sources are a woman who has long been picking fights with Gaiman on Twitter over his support of trans rights and Boris Johnson's sister and a supporter of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Sorry if I want to wait for something not them to bring this forward given Rachel Johnson is willing to throw literal children under the bus. She's 100% going to do the same for other women who aren't with her. And the other is 100% looking for a way to get Gaiman on a Take That! because she hates that he's pro-trans rights.

These are your sources. These two. What credibility do they even have again? Or are we so desperate for drama that we accept THESE pedo-lovers as legit sources?

Re: Entertainment news (warning for discussion of sexual assault)

(Anonymous) 2024-07-04 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, until an actual legitimate source comes forward, sorry, but I don't believe any of it.

Not surprised.

A lot of famous/high positioned men, no matter how conservative or progressive, have been complete slimeballs in regards to their sexual/romantic lives.

Based off a couple articles I read, I support the accusers. However, I am aware that there is still an investigation going on, the cases seem to be mostly "she said/he said" and those always draw out the most murky stories.

I don't want to believe the allegations are true, but currently, I believe the accusers.

"I support Ghilsaine Maxwell supporters" is a hell of a fucking take.

I like and have read some of his works.
He divorced his wife, ended up with Amanda Palmer and polyamory. Felt like an old man clinging to younger women because he couldn't deal with his mortality.
