Annihilative

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't just a willful despoiling; it is something that has brought the show (and the way people feel about it) to ruin in a profoundly destructive way.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. Not even close, I'd say.

Re: Crack Ships

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Call me naive, but when I first heard "Crack Ship" I didn't think about the drug, I thought it was to mean something like: You have to bend the canon so much to make it happen it cracks, lol.

But I would take it as two characters that never had any meaningful interaction, implied or otherwise, in canon. Maybe because they didn't exist in the same time and place, or because they just never met, or any interaction they had was very brief.

Never had any serious crack ships, but I did have quite a lot of fun with them. Transformers in particular is full of them, some that even get popular.

I loved the long wrap-up of ROTK. People did joke about it at the time, but you know, I think that's what such a long, epic tale needed even if it wasn't concise.

Cdramas aren't really known for their satisfying endings. Kind of the opposite, to be honest... especially if you want happily ever afters, for beloved characters to NOT die, or just, you know, closure.

The Untamed - Considering that for censorship reasons, they could not be explicit about how Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian ended up together forever, I thought the ending was a lovely one. It was obvious to me (and most people) that they did end up together and were happy, and that final mountain top scene where LWJ calls out his name and WW turns around and his whole face lights up stayed with me for a long time.

Blood of Youth - I loved that Xiao Se didn't become the emperor, even if he was the most promising candidate for it. I loved that he preferred to wander the martial arts world with his friends, and that he went off to defeat the enemy AND returned, saw his younger brother secure on the throne, and then went off for more adventures.

Father and daughter (or son) bonding fics

[personal profile] philstar22 2024-09-10 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Don't care the fandom. Just looking for fics with fathers bonding with their kids (regardless of age, even adult children), especially daughters.

Not a series finale, but I thought the ending of Ted Lasso Season 1 was perfection. I didn't vibe with S2 and haven't watched since, so can't speak to the rest of it.

Same! It sucked so much! I wouldn't be weirded out if the general consensus was like, neutral about it, but it's honestly incomprehensible to me how many people gush about how incredible it was.

Re: Question for OP...

DA There is a lot of poetic license taken, but mostly he's just interested in the wars and the lords, without much understanding of agriculture, economic factors, and gender roles outside the nobles. So it's not so much outright wrong as shaky because it's very shallow.

Same! I did quite like most of the individual endings (especially Michael and Tahani) but the Good Place itself was so dreadfully shallow and everyone there sucked. I understand it would be very difficult to wrap up a show like that, but it feels weird for everyone to rave about it.

Re: Pushing Daisies

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think they had a lot more story in them, but they got enough notice to leave everyone in a pretty good place.

Every season of Blackadder, but especially season 4 (set in WWI).

yes!

Re: Question for OP...

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this. And he has a tendency to muddle in attitudes from much more recent time periods, like Victorian ideas of racism, along withe renaissance and post-renaissance/early modern ideas of historicity (ie, how the maesters write the 'history' in fire and blood), and roll it all in together as ~the past~ and calls it a medieval-esque world. Also he has big gaps in terms of material culture - not paying attention to the difference between paper and parchment which is a HUGE difference if you have any even amateur interest in medieval scholarship, for example.

I'm not even a GRRM hater, I enjoy his work and I don't think he's obligated to be interested in those things, but he gets a lot of credit for """basing things on history""" and on it being the medieval period in particular, when it's really a much sloppier setting than that.

Lo único que ruego es que no vayan los que son más tóxicos. BlueSky es muy hermoso y seguro para que hayan problemas de fandom.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
This is something fandom is going to have to step up and include in its creative works, if we're going to have it, I think. Because the less popular the enforcement arm of the US government gets, the harder it clings to trying to indoctrinate people with sheer make-believe.

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
r/FeralYiff would beg to differ, I'm sure. ;)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not any fonder of the guys in that picture, but the lady looks super deformed. Like, what's that even supposed to be, a dog-mouse? A squash-fronted ferret? Right with you on that character style being notably ugly, anon.

What if character a and character b are from completely different movies? What would it be like if those two characters meet and start dating?

I.e. Russell Ziskey from Stripes and Vanessa from Corvette Summer

Yup! Agreed on all of that. Even though the series finale was rushed, at least most loose ends were tied up pretty well.

That would've been HILARIOUS.

I think I missed this. What on earth was the context for a pronouncement like that? Serious conversation? Drunken dinner party?
