this - oprah is about making money and a brand. when the big thing was 'self-help through tough love' she sold us dr. phil. when it was 'better health through homeopathy' she sold us dr. oz. now it's 'go woke or go broke' and she's selling HERSELF to leverage harris. but she's not going out on a limb here - the kinds of people who buy her brand are already going to vote for harris, same as taylor swift. she's not risking anything but she's putting her face on the hot new trend again. not malicious not respectable. just a person with a brand marketing that brand.

Transformers has a pretty solid streak with canon relationships in my opinion. The most negative I would go are ships that I didn't ship or didn't particularly like becoming canon, like BDKO, but won't argue that they are portrayed badly, just personal meh. Chromedome/Rewind is pretty great, Lug/Anode is pretty good too...

Some people argue heavily against OPLita, they haven't been an actual and official thing in canon for a good while, I personally don't think you have to divorce her from OP in every way to make her a solid character on her on, but we didn't really get to see them much in the G1 either so.

I feel this secret so much. I’ve been told I have a cute, child-like voice, so I think I’d make a good voice actor based on just that lol

honestly, I think you have it. accelerationists on either side are some of the biggest idiots who think they can rebuild society perfectly while having no idea how to actual do it. Please, do not advocate for a cleansing apocalypse, it won't be as neatly-accomplished as your chosen favorite scifi novel.

Same lol

Along the same lines, I remember as a kid hearing someone complaining that Clinton thought he was better than everyone and was too full of himself and that was why they wouldn't vote for him, and I remember thinking "wouldn't someone have to be, to be able to not only run but be a good president?"

(Anonymous) 2024-10-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think Trump is going to be better for Gaza? Do you seriously think Trump isn't going to be whole hog for genocide and give even more aid to a wannabe strongman, Netanyahu, to finish the job?

Pull your head out of your goddamn asshole.

I mean, if you're going to dismiss the comment with actual content and rationale about the writing and editing process and the sometimes limited creator perspective on their own work as "airily wav[ing this] off as irrelevant" then... no conversation to be had here.

Sure.

I'd be a great dictator.

Thank you for this comment. I'm not the OP and this isn't specifically a field I'm interested in but the last part struck a chord with me. I'm trying to get more bold about trying new things in my fields even if they don't work out or just work out a little bit, and you're very right that "smaller" accomplishments feel better than doing nothing for no one.

Being GOD!!!!!!

I have no respect for Oprah because she is convinced you have to belong to a religion in order to have any ethics. I'm an atheist and I'm just as ethical as anybody else.

Hmm... based on absolutely zero evidence? No.

I wonder if it's weirder to answer "no" than "yes" to this question?

(Anonymous) 2024-10-13 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a copy of Good Omens signed by Terry Pratchett, and I always wanted to get it signed by Neil Gaiman as well. Not anymore!

da

yyyyyyyyyup. Things'll be chaotic for decades, maybe even a hundred years or so. I don't think that will be better than what we have now.

I think I’d be the best dancer at the club if just the right song came on.

Certainly not in their lifetime

Talk show host

(Anonymous) 2024-10-13 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason I think I would be a delightful talkshow host. Like late night comedy or panel comedy type show.

I have never hosted anything in my life.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-13 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel this. In my case, I think it's also having a bit more time to spend on it as well.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I want to scream this every time I see someone complaining about this issue.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen that clip going around recdently where someone was implying that Kamala not having biological kids of her own meant she didn't have anything to "keep her humble" and aside from the absolute WTAF of the implications of that mindset towards those of us who don't have kids, like you said, that seems an especially stupid thing to worry about for someone who hopes to run an entire freaking country.

I really liked John/Aeryn, both in theory and in terms of how it ended up playing out. Also Wangxian (in the show, I've never read the novels), and Kataang (I thought it was obvious they were going to end up together? they had the most compatibility).

I agree with anon above that Mulder/Scully was great in theory but not in practice, but how terrible it was in its execution versus theory doesn't hold a candle to how badly House/Cuddy wound up playing out.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2024-10-14 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
The most frustrating part is that this is the same attitude they had in 2016. That was supposedly why they didn't vote, or voted for Trump. And then 2020 came around and they STILL weren't satisfied with the candidate the Democrats put up, so they had that same attitude again.

And now here it is, 2024, and oh, look, they aren't happy with Harris, either. I suppose tehy think third time of "let it burn!" will finally be the charm? I just wonder how many times they plan to go through this song and dance before they either get their perfect unicorn of a candidate or finally clue in to the fact that this mindset is an absolutely terrible way to go about addressing these issues.

I feel you on your least fav, nonny.

Honestly, you are probably more ethical because you know your values well and adhere to them because they are important to you.
