We're having ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, pie and mashed potatoes. Ordered some per-prepared food from Hy-Vee, the only thing I'll be close to cooking is heating up a can of corn and carrots.

We are doing Thanksgiving on Saturday and it will also be my niece's birthday party. We'll have turkey, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, bread rolls, apple and pumpkin pie, and a birthday cake.

We're celebrating, sort of. But we ordered food from this local bakery that is supposed to have good food. I picked it up today, and it looks good. Usual thanksgiving stuff: turkey, sourdough stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, corn, pecan and apple pies.

Everything except the rice is already made, I just have to throw things in crockpots and warm it up.

Woke up early this am to get the pie making started, and then I'll make potatoes right before I leave to go to the fam for the big feast.

Misery porn burnout (inspired by #6)

Who else is feeling it?

I just can't be doing with all the "Everything is terrible, every one is evil, it's all dark gray - black, there are no happy endings for anyone" misery porn.

I skipped most of Arcane S1 because of it, and I didn't even try S2 because I knew it was gonna be worse.

So: What media are you avoiding / dropping because you're as sick as I am of misery porn? What media are you turning to instead?

I am no longer watching the news (political or otherwise). I check the reddit news sub every other day in the morning to make sure nothing huge has happened and that's it.

I'm also taking a break from my most listened to podcast Knowledge Fight as well. Oddly, getting back into true crime because I find it more relaxing. Lol. Mostly listening to Last Podcast on the Left and Casefile.

Good times.

I'm kidding, I know what you mean. I have an idea about why true crime is so relaxing:

1. You know what you're getting into right from the jump. No "Subversion of expectations" to fuck you over at the last minute, you know not to get attached to anyone. and

2. You know, by the very nature of someone making a podcast about it, that the murderer guy got caught, the details of the plot all revealed, and it all gets resolved. There's something comforting in that.

I mean, I feel it a lot. Give me happy, hopeful media these days, please. I don't even mind darkness. I like it. But give me a sense of hope. And give me some genuine heroes.

I'm burnt out on watching my people get kidnapped, raped, murdered, having missiles shot at them, and watching the young brainwashed goose-steppers in the streets scream Death To Jews! on my TV and internet. I'm reading light, fluffy, cozy stuff at home.

I'm still kinda okay with grimdark in fantasy or sci-fi settings but real world drama movies/shows? No fucking way, if I want to get depressed I'd watch the news.

What exactly counts as a slow burn in fanfic? I'm currently writing one that's gonna be around forty chapters and the characters don't get together until chapter thirty, but there's a lot of flirting and teasing before then. I just don't want to tag it wrong.
