I've tried to watch this movie so many times and never make it more than 30 minutes in because I get so bored.

I really enjoyed this movie but I'd wouldn't call it the best movie in five years, and certainly not ten. It was solidly fun, it wasn't trying to be more than that, and I had a good time as a result. But there are better movies that have come out in recent years at the same time and it's not an insult to this movie to say that.

I’ve played D&D for over three decades, which really helps — I know the lore! I know the monsters! So I enjoyed it, very much. I was entertained, but is it a great movie? Not really. It tells a good story, it uses the characters, lore, and magic well, and it’s fun.

I liked it and thought it was good, but not great. Blockbuster movies have been pretty mediocre for the past decade or so. It doesn't take much to be at the top, so you're right, but that's damning with faint praise.

I have watched way more movies from the past five years (though I am counting early 2020) than I thought I had - 49 and I haven't even watched any 2025 movies yet. And while Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves would make it into my top eight of the movies I most enjoyed among them, I wouldn't put it as the best. It was a fun heist movie, with an interesting setting and engaging characters and that does put it head and shoulders above some of the much more critically acclaimed films that I saw and really disliked.

I am with you. It's not my favorite movie, I prefer more substance for that, but it is really good at what it is - being solid entertainment. It's sad that we are not getting sequels

I basically agree with this. The protagonist doesn’t want to be empathized with, so I didn’t. And the fandom seems to be built around empathizing with the protagonist.

Hard to credibly make fun of politicians for taking drugs and having affairs blow up in their faces when you're taking drugs and an affair is blowing up in your face.

Jimmy Carr bounced back from his scandal because he immediately and completely owned up to it. Even a decade later and after having paid back all owed taxes, he still takes all tax jokes with humility and humour. Agnus wouldn't have been able to set his ego aside like that, which would have put HIGNFY credibility on the line.

There is a scene at the beginning of Trails into Reverie where Lloyd is beaten to within an inch of his life, with emphasis on blows to the head.

Normally, he doesn't wear glasses, but since that scene I've headcanoned that he suffered enough cranial trauma that he needs glasses to see now. The game has a glasses costume accessory that you can equip on anyone, so of course he immediately got it.

In an anime game that refuses to give its characters consequences for their actions, this is both a personal justification and a bit of a kink point because he looks so good with glasses on.
