Look at it this way: a lot of sayings we take for granted entered our lexicon from Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, etc. Carlin is just one of those sources. A hundred years from now people will be saying the line about averages and stupid people as if it were some deep yarn of lore, not realizing who said it first (until some know it all rolls in on the version of reddit that will exist). Simpsons quotes will be the Shakespeare lingua franca of 2100. Be glad that you were one of the original generation to hear it live.

Agree. Not everything needs a sequel. Sometimes, a complete story is told perfectly in one movie (or book or whatever), and it should be left there. It doesn't always need to be dragged out into a series.

Yup. Some things don't need a sequel. annoyed that Edge of Tomorrow is getting a sequel. that is a movie that is perfect as a solo movie and will only be weakened by a sequel.

Most sequels ruin everything. If the sequel is popular then they'll most likely make another, and another, until it stops making money. Which almost always means everyone's sick of it by then and the entire canon is fucked.

It's why most of the original disney sequels are ignored because we could do that back then.

My favorite movie is a sequel (Aliens). Sometimes I think the sequels are better than the original (like Happy Death Day 2U, Captain America: Winter Soldier). Sometimes I don't think they are better, but they are good and interesting for me to watch in a different way than the original (like Sister Act 2). And sometimes I don't think they are better, but still good and more fun for me to watch than the original (like Jaws 2). Sometimes they are bad, but more fun for me to watch than the original (like Grease 2, Jaws 3D). Sometimes I like the characters and plot enough that all I want is a little variation on the theme and the sequel delivers that well (Die Hard 2).

Yeah I used to find these shows funny as a kid, because the idea that aliens did all of that was absurd so they were fun to laugh at. Growing up and realising that there were adults who 100% believed the BS these shows spouted made it harder to find them funny. Not to mention how fast these conspiracy's devolve into racism.

this reminds me of when games of thrones ended and everyone was super upset and over the top about it while i was eating popcorn all the time because I've been watching the show as my "trash quota" of the week since mmmh season 4 or 5?
like, the witcher as a show has never been "GOOD". fun? sometimes. appealing? sure. with great actors and some iconic scenes? absolutely! with excellent writing? AHAHA NOPE. i don't get why people are so vitriolic and upset all of the sudden about it apart from the lead actor changing. ...sexism and racism may be it? IDK & IDC.

Weekend Plans?

What is everyone doing this weekend?

I'm driving to visit my sister tomorrow. Saturday/Sunday I don't think we will do much. We are going to watch a couple of horror movies we've been looking forward to.

On Monday we are going to the Tulsa State fair to look at the exhibits and eat weird food. Tuesday, I'll be driving home.
