Do you shower at night or in the morning?

(Anonymous) 2025-10-08 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Just wondering what most people do. I shower in the morning but have been thinking of switching to showers at night. But then I'd have to blowdry my hair.

I shower in the morning, it helps me wake up and I feel grimy if I don’t. I don’t wash my hair on my work days though, I do that on my days off because I’ve got long hair and it takes a while to air dry enough so that blow drying won’t take ages.

Night. The thought of getting into bed dirty and sleeping in it grosses me out.

As a rule in the morning, because I work overnight shifts and definitely need a wash before going to bed. But I'll shower at night if I've been doing a lot of stuff on my day off and feel sticky or sweaty or grimy. I put a folded towel on my pillow for wet hair - blow drying is way too tedious.

In the morning. I don't shower everyday but when I do it helps me wake up. My hair takes forever to dry and I don't own a hairdryer so showering at night is a pain, unkess I want to go to bed with wet hair. Which I do not.

I don't shower every day but when I need to. It depends.

Night. I sweat a lot in summer and it helps me wind down after work.

At night, I like to be clean before bed and it means less rushing before work in the morning. Also the rest of my family does morning showers so this way I never have to wait on anyone.

Usually at night, but sometimes in the afternoon when I get home from work.

Honestly switches depending on my mood. If I'm really exhausted I won't sleep at night because it wakes me up. But if I have to wash my hair I shower at night because I have issues with blowdrying due to super thick hair. I'll also take an extra, quick shower in the morning even if I showered at night if I'm extra tired and need a water wake up or if I think I smell or face is extra oily or something.

At night. I usually end up sweating because of physical exercise or exertion at some point during the day and I can't stand the thought of going to bed like that.

Morning because I sweat during the night and I want to be fresh and clean during the day when I'm around colleagues.

I only take evening showers after working out/training.

Morning, because I have the oilest hair on Earth and sleeping is enough to make back of my head dirty

Night. It helps me calm down and get ready for bed.

Downsides: wet hair is a bitch to deal with
Upsides: easy mornings

Depends on what I a)did during the day and b)want to do the next day. If I only slumped around the house all day and didn't really get dirty, I prefer mornings. If I got sweaty/dirty, absolutely shower at night.
At the same time, if I have to get out of the house early, I shower in the evening because I don't like blow drying my long hair and I can let it dry over night.

Ideally morning (I work graveyard so it's actually at night, but I know what you mean and I wanna join in XD), because having a shower before work/going out sets me up to prep for the day. It helps wake me up too. I also like that I'm smelling and feeling fresh and clean when I leave home.

Currently I shower after work/working out, because that's the most convenient time to shower. I do like to feel nice and clean before going to bed, but when I wash my hair I make sure I have a few hours to air dry my hair.
Also, one of the best feelings in the world is getting into bed with freshly washed sheets after a nice shower.

How do you watch Cadfael if ya all are atheists and agnostics?

Based on religion threads in the past there's no religious people on fs but there's Father Brown and Cadfael fans, apparently?

Atheist Cadfael and Father Brown fan right here. (A fan of Grantchester too, at least while Sidney was still the main character.)

And the answer is "very easily".

First, I can happily enjoy characters whose sense of morality I don't agree with at all, including utterly ruthless bastards and immoral criminals. I don't have to share their beliefs to enjoy watching or reading about them.

Second, I can have respect and appreciation for people who act in ways I consider to be admirable, even if they arrived at those actions for different reasons.

Because it's a show? Do you only watch shows that reflect your own identity and beliefs?

Advice column: Help! My Parents Retired and Became Unrecognizable Divas.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-09 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
https://slate.com/advice/2025/10/family-advice-retired-parents-conflict.html

Booooy did this hit close to home. My father isn't quite this bad, but I can relate re: retired parents channeling way too much time and energy into being entitled customers. Usually I like Dear Prudence, but this time I think she got it very, very wrong. This, for example:

So ask yourself: Is it really that your parents are behaving in a way that’s totally unacceptable, or are they just behaving like people who no longer care as much about social graces and may be dealing with some normal cognitive decline, or a little anxiety about functioning in a quickly changing world where the technology is new, everyone seems rushed, and interacting with small businesses isn’t what it once was?

I have a theory that our society doesn’t give older adults a lot of reverence or ask for their wisdom, so in an attempt to claw back some of the respect they wish they were given, some find themselves trying to harangue retail workers and customer service representatives into treating them better. Whether or not I’m right, a person in their seventh decade of life being a little more prone to bizarre or demanding behavior than a younger adult may be is certainly not unheard of. And I doubt the people they’re interacting with are really upset about it.

While it's true that a lot of older people behave in less than great ways because they're struggling with getting older, feeling isolated and left behind in a world that's no longer familiar, plus some cognitive deterioration and being too old to give a fuck, that's not a valid excuse for being a shitheel to retail/customer service people. And if you think that retail employees don't get upset about being yelled at by awful boomers for things they have no control over, you clearly don't know anything about how much it sucks to work in retail.

When I witness my Dad being an entitled jerk at a restaurant, for example, I make a point of correcting him ("Dad, it's a busy weekend and we've only been waiting for ten minutes, not half an hour."), apologizing to the waitstaff and leaving a generous tip - because he's also stingy with tipping. If I hear him telling a triumphant story about how he got the best of some poor retail employee by demanding special discounts or making them run around the store like his personal assistant, I bluntly tell him he's being rude and that I'd be embarrassed to be seen with him. Does it stop all of his awful behavior? No, because I'm not with him 24/7. But it curbs it a little, and at least he knows he won't be able to get away with it in my presence.
