What is your go to winter foods?

Soups? Stews? Freshly baked bread?

Lot of soups. Favourites are probably butternut squash, roasted tomato, and carrot/ginger.

For feeding multiple people at a weekend dinner, a roasted chicken.

And in the past, lots of hearty pasta dishes: bolognese, leek and mushroom, etc. Now that I’m trying to avoid carbohydrate-heavy things, I’m looking around for some alternatives.

Anyone else love chili with some cornbread smashed into? Every soup I eat, I usually put something in. Like chili and cornbread or chicken soup and crackers.

Soups and stews of all kinds. I love them all year long, but especially great in winter. For specific kinds: chicken or turkey noodle, chili, beef stew, potato soup, lentil soup, italian meatball, onion, chicken and rice, tortellini or dumpling, vegetable, ramin, pho, lemon chicken, wedding soup, borscht, split pea, minestrone.

Hot chocolate.

Pasta is great in winter.

your typical thanksgiving foods: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn cassarole (mom's recipe is great). And then the turkey bones become soup.

Soup, especially tomato bisque.

soups and stews for sure - beef stew, chili, potato soup, kabocha, oden, arroz caldo, and good ol' chicken noodle with homemade noodles (with a cat pawprint in the dough every time). I'm going to try out some new soups to make up for how we can't afford beef for stew right now.

I love a good soup! My mom used to make a potato and leek soup with kielbasa when I was a kid that I keep meaning to get the recipe for whenever I visit. Also a big fan of lasagna and Japanese curry.

Weekend Plans?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2025-11-14 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
What is everyone doing this weekend?

I'm recovering from strep throat so I'll be taking it easy. The new season of Rivals is out, so I'm going try some of that. And if I feel good tomorrow, I want to try the new Phasmophabia.

In kitten news, they went to the vet! Unfortunately, they are too young for shots (only 6 weeks). But I found out we have three girls and one boy! Here are some pics and photos of them. They are are now allowed in the living room and dining room supervised. https://imgur.com/a/USlS8JO (the boy is the one screaming in the last photo)

Just had back surgery today, so recovery and Lord of the Rings rewatch. Also obsessing over the new flight rising breed, so will be on there a lot.

And my old boss is being an ass, so I have to draft these letters to former clients. Trying to cover all my bases so they can't try anything.

So sorry about your strep. And those kittens are perfect.

My husband's birthday is tonight (so I at least got him a slice of peach pie) and my mom is visiting for the weekend. I just browned some butter (for the first time yet) with plans to pour some over pumpkin goat cheese ravioli.

I've also been working on soldering itty bitty Mill-Max sockets into the PCB of a mechanical keyboard I'm in the process of building. That I will probably put off during the visit, but it's fiddly work to be sure...

They are so stinking cute!

I’m sorry you’ve been sick :( I hope you feel better soon and enjoy a relaxing weekend!

I’m sewing this weekend. I have two quilts to finish by Christmas. One is a panel quilt and the other isn’t even planned *gulp* I need to come up with something quick! I have a big embroidery machine so I may just make 8x8 blocks on that and sew them together.

Ahhh. (A thread about good things.)

(Anonymous) 2025-11-15 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a beautiful feeling when I'm freshly showered and dressed in cozy pajamas and slippers, the internet is in front of me, a nice cup of herbal tea is also in front of me, and I don't have to go to work tomorrow. I still have plenty of problems, but I can enjoy this moment.
