I know, I know, 2014 called and wants its secret back, but this has been low-key annoying me for years.

The secret is how much this has been living rent-free in my brain for the past eleven years. OMG, let it go already.

Why the fuck wasn't Hawkeye, established as an agent of SHIELD, involved in the downfall of SHIELD subplot? I understand from the Doylist perspective, but from the Watsonian angle it makes zero narrative sense. Where was he??

As a big Hawkeye fan at the time, this bugged me as well. But I do admit I really enjoyed all the Hawkeye fixit type fic that came from the problem!

The filmmakers were going to include him, but he didn't have enough to do, so instead of giving the character the "short shrift", they gave all of it to Black Widow (there were also some scheduling issues).

I don't think they ever gave a reason for Hawkeye not to have been there onscreen in any of the subsequent movies. My theories at the time were that was he was still being kept out of certain things due to his possession two years earlier, he and Natasha were being kept deliberately apart by Fury because of something to do with Coulson (I wasn't really sure when they knew he had been resurrected), he was undercover somewhere, or he was on medical leave. Later, when it was revealed he had a family, I decided something could have been going on with his wife or one of his kids, like a seriously illness or something.

I was obsessed with this movie as a kid but it seems to be one of those that a lot of people forgot in the meantime. I never forgot it but I definitely don't see it talked about in or out of fandom.

I would watch a TV show about William Bligh's life, but only if it focused on the Rum Rebellion part of it instead of the done-to-death Mutiny on the Bounty part. We do not need yet another rehash of the latter, but apparently we're getting one anyway!

A lot of the appeal of the first two entries in this franchise was the nominal commitment to diversity despite being headlined by cis straight white men.

This one isn't even trying to pretend it's about anything other than the straight white guys. No one else gets screen time. I am irrationally disappointed.

Bonus Disappointment: they keep shoving Christianity in the viewers' faces. omfg, keep your creepy cult to yourself. At this point Captain Smokeshow is not hot enough to compensate for this asininity.
