Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-11 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Also other naked spaces tho I can't think of any at the moment. Persobally I hated swimming pool lessons at school even with the normal locker rooms. Can't imagine seeing my crash naked at 8th grade.

I don't care at all. I want stalls with doors floor to ceiling, but I feel that way about cis women as much as I feel that way about anyone else. I don't want to see anyone else's naked body.

I don't want to see anyone else's naked body.

I don't mean to sound weird, but I'm kind of glad I grew up seeing a lot of other people's naked bodies (as a competitive swimmer, changing multiple times a day in shared women's change rooms, seeing people of both sexes change on the pool deck using towels).

It ended up giving me a really healthy impression of what people's bodies really look like, and I found I had way fewer body image issues than many of peers did as a result. I didn't even know what "cellulite" was until someone explained it to me as young adult - to me, that was just what fat on women's (and post-pubertal teen girls') upper legs looks like. Because, well, it is. It normalized all the lumps and dents and bulges that got airbrushed out of media; I didn't go around imagining that everybody had a perfect body but me - I knew that, when their clothes came off, they didn't.

Fine with it.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-11 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care. Being naked in public spaces with anyone is awkward, doesn't matter what gender they are.

I do think locker rooms should have stalls, not just big open areas.

Re: Fine with it.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-11 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not about awkwardness. It's about the greater potential for men to be creepers.

I've never been to a locker room with stalls. You're the second person to suggest it. It's not doable, especially in a large city where real estate is expensive.

If everyone changes in individual stalls, then it's fine.

If it's a wide open changing room, then it should not be mixed gender.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-11 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I genuinely couldn't give a shit. I'd rather most bathrooms and changing rooms have single fully sealed stalls regardless of which genders access the area, I want to be fully private while I change.

it's too expensive. A row of lockers one above another is what can be fitted in an urban gym realistically.

Don't care. Have "mixed gender" bathrooms at home, had them in college. It's whatever.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Don't mind them. I've been in mixed gender changing rooms (including mixed shower rooms) before and most saunas around here are mixed gender (and clothes-free). It's the same as in single gender spaces.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I've been in mixed baths overseas and it's fine but those were def cultures where men aren't all painted as all creeper all the time. given how weird men are around other (straight) men, I'm down for individual changing rooms everywhere. don't tell me it's not structurally feasible if Tokyo can do it.

This smells like bait. Did you not get enough drama with yesterday's comment about penises in women's locker rooms or whatever?

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I would NEVER use a locker room or whatever where you're naked around even same-sex strangers, because my body is literally misshapen and I am too self conscious for that. Not to mention the way everybody has a camera in their pockets these days. No thanks.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

I am a fat woman and honestly women have been nastier and more aggressive to me about than men (men just ignore me), so maybe mixed gender changerooms would be an improvement.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely not. If a privately owned establishment wanted to do that, that's their choice. But I won't use them.
I have a lot of trauma and don't want to see or be around that.

Curious what the goal of this thread was

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Did you just want an interesting philosophical discussion? To drum up drama? It doesn't seem like just an "other peoples thoughts on this are interesting" type of thread, so just honestly curios what the motivation for posting was or what the hoped for outcome was? Idk just curious.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Personal opinion: it's irrelevant to me, I don't remember the last time I stepped into a single-gender locker room or sauna so I wouldn't be using them anyway.

If you're asking if I approve or disapprove in the theoretical sense: also don't really care. If people want to have them let them. But most Americans are uncomfortable already even with the idea of single-gender communal baths or spas so it seems like it'd be unpopular here.

If you're making this a gender thing: plenty of times I recall hearing about some woman or other filming another woman in the spa and mocking her body and posting it to Instagram. Nobody's privacy or safety is guaranteed.

I've used male toilets when there was no other option or the line was too long and I was in a hurry, so I'm not fussed. I hated the changing rooms at the pool anyway because I was always the last out due to the other girls taking too long.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not a fan. Saunas might be fine because it's steamy and no one's actually naked. People either are lying down or wear a towel.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I would prefer mixed gender with stalls (individual and family sized). Stalls mostly because cameras and privacy are out of hand.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a little uncomfortable having to use women's bathhouses and saunas, but I always go with female friends who I'm comfortable seeing naked and try to look at the other people as little as possible and it's worth it to get the good full soak. And I look like a woman so nobody gives me a hard time about being there.

Oh, was this question meant for cis people? Oops.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Locker rooms - I need a private changing room or a private stall, even in a single gender locker room. If that's not available I'm (1) using a bathroom stall and (2) not coming back.

All other places - I prefer saunas, nude beaches, ect to be mixed gender. I want to be with my friends or family. Also, I can dress down to my level of comfort. If I want to stay wrapped up in a towel or sunshirt I doubt they'll kick me out.

I've gotten better about my shyness as I age but I've got to remember my younger self.

Re: Your opinion on mixed gender locker rooms and saunas

(Anonymous) 2026-01-12 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Would be fine with it if there were stalls. I've been jumped by a woman in the changing room and nearly had my bag stolen (someone thankfully stepped in front of her and caused her to fall on her ass), been yelled slurs at while heading for the showers (and ended up just going home to shower there) as well as the time a drunken woman tried to climb over the toilet stall wall while I was peeing just to vomit on me.

These and many more fun encounters I have had in locker rooms and public toilets were mostly caused by other women - whereas the amount of men I've had trouble with in these locations still remains to be a zero.
