Might be this one for fandom stuff. I occasionally poke on LJ just for finding icons.

In general, though, probably New York Times and BBC. Try to keep generally up with news.

Maybe. How old is FS?

I regularly visit a site established in 2001 (which I know because they're celebrating their 25th this year). I think they've managed to last because (1) they focus on a niche skill, (2) 25 years of this has led to a huge internet presence, and (3) the overall user base just wants the info and discussion and isn't concerned about the outdated format.

The Replica Props Forum (the-rpf)

I think my account is 22 years old there. I have veteran flair.

Well, the case I mentioned a few weeks ago where it was an obvious win by a woman and her son who were both abused by her ex? Well, government actually did file an appeal. We have a plan for getting her out in detention, and they aren't going to win the appeal. But this is going to take longer, she's going to have to be in there a while longer, and I'm just so angry.

Honestly, last week there were a bunch of fucked up things in court too. I'm not feeling defeated or depressed so much as just freaking angry.

I have lived with a friend for 8 years and they still don't know where the dishes go. They know where "their" stuff goes but if emptying the dishwasher and it is something they don't use, they either put it in the wrong (random) place or just leave it sitting on the counter. It drives me nuts. How hard is it to just pay attention to your surroundings? Or ask me where it goes? Apprently very!

Such a silly thing to be annoyed by yet here I am. And yes, we have had talks about this before. They never change.

It's always a sad feeling when you read an incredible fic and the author has disabled comments because they got disillusioned with the story and want to forget it exists.

I had guests staying over and they consistently leave the bathroom door shut and the light on after they're done.

It bugs me for two main reasons:
- One, it makes it hard to tell whether there's someone in there. I waited and waited for them to get finished before finally realizing it was actually empty.
- Two, it's clearly a bathroom with no outdoor window. So you need to leave the door open to let air circulate, both for damp and for smells. (There's also a built-in fan, but they clearly don't understand the concept, even after it was shown to them.)

I just don't get it. What is the reason to leave the bathroom like that? It takes a little extra effort to close the door after you, so it's not even just laziness or forgetfulness.

I'm tired of men who are dismissive of women, and who genuinely believe that women aren't capable of the same emotions and feelings as men are.

I bought an inexpensive wireless headset because the nicer one I have is kind of uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. This one is a Logitech and it's Bluetooth and it likes to randomly cut out. It's honestly super annoying. The other one I have is much more expensive and really nice quality, this one is junky.

So tired of men who think women aren't capable of the same depth of emotion as men. Who act like women can't possibly have real problems or can't understand the problems that men have.

I fucking tired of my job, it's so damn toxic. For example, my department was recently reported for not doing our job, not because we don't but because there is a group that wants all organisation to themselves. And they are literal. Fucking. Nazis. I call them this not because I don't like them but because they are alt-right nationalists.
But frankly I am scared of looking for one. I've always been bad at job interview games, but right now jobs even less available.

I feel bad for the number 68. 69 has always stolen the show, and 66 is popular with Star Wars meme fans, and now 67 is the funny number. 68 has nothing. :(

Maybe 68 has it better because it doesn't have humans being weird about it.

1968 was a great year for music.

Do you read romance?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you ever? Do you have thoughts on the genre as a whole?

Yes

(Anonymous) 2026-03-31 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
In fic it is 90% of what I read. But I also enjoy the traditional romance book now and again. Or maybe not so "traditional" but I do own a chunk of romance books. Jennifer Crusie was my fave back in the day. And I was known to enjoy some Nora Roberts and Jude Deveraux in my younger days. It always seems to shock people since I am pretty queer and don't come off as the romance type, but they are fun not real life at all type books.

I do tend to prefer books outside the specific romance genre to be romance free. Sadly hard to find.

Do you ever read fanfic about things you haven't read/watched/played?

(Anonymous) 2026-03-31 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

I personally have done it for a couple of fandoms, and in those cases I knew enough about the media from osmosis to understand the fic, and liked the concept but didn't have the time or money to watch the show.

+1

Regardless how anyone feels about Lindy West...

(Anonymous) 2026-03-31 01:58 am (UTC)(link)

...it's bizarre to me how some commentators are like "why is the internet talking about her marriage so much? Why do they have opinions on it? What gave them the idea that they could possibly know anything about it?" Even West herself has made some comments along those lines.

She published a memoir that goes into great detail about her marriage. In order to promote said memoir, she did multiple interviews in mainstream publications in which she discussed her marriage. Every review of the book, by necessity, has to mention aspects of her marriage, because a significant part of the book is about her marriage. Of course the Internet is going to talk about it, and have opinions on it. And those opinions are gonna get supercharged when the husband shows up and starts hurling insults at the book reviewers (in case you weren't aware of all this drama, most people seem in agreement that the husband comes off poorly in the book. His response to the commentary has done little to dissuade them).

I can understand being taken aback if you write something about your personal life and the reception isn't what you thought it would be. But if you write a book and tell the New York Times all about your personal life, then you kind of have to be prepared for people to, well, discuss your personal life.
