I love that this show tackles burnout in health care workers and specifically in ER staff, that it talks about mental health for patients and providers

But I was so fucking disappointed that the resolution to that ongoing subplot was Babies Ever After.

can just one thing not be about kids, omfg

"The secondary characters are better than the main characters" is a common complaint about old adventure movies. And modern party-based RPGs, come to think of it. And I think there's some of this in shonen manga. I guess something about action-adventure invites bland protagonists.

I feel this way

But not video games but other big popular things in fandom. There is always this sort of yearning to be into a thing that seemingly everyone else in your circle is into, or a feeling like I need to try a different approach or that I'm doing something wrong to not get the same joy, but it just doesn't always work.

Most secrets shouldn't *have* to be a secret.

I love video games, but perhaps ironically(?) my favorite genres are the ones that don't require skill or practice or hand-eye coordination, like Cookie Clicker and the like. Sure, playing with good strategy makes you progress faster, but it's literally impossible to "lose." I find them more fun and relaxing than the usual stuff that's all challenge-based.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
so you're literally missing out on a whole genre because you equated God of War or Centipede or anything in between as equivalent to all other games released in the same time period regardless of mechanic.

Your loss, literally.

the "git gud" level of gaming has frustrated me for 20+ years consistently but I also moved beyond those games to find games that are fun, do not require being good at any intrinsic factor, and also justfuckmethestoryissogood I deal. I won't be able to 100% them on Platform of Choice because I won't clear 2 sub-substories that require beating one optional boss to unlock second optional boss but also the reward won't help you in the actual endgame fight so why bother? Trophy wants me to do all of that but also on Chaos mode, so also fuck trophies. It's not worth it, none of it is worth it!!!

So if you failed at playing a single level of Sonic in 1998 and gave up, and are now eternally mad at video games over it to the point of writing a secret? literally Your Loss.

I alove this one still. It is a fun plane movie or background movie for me, but I feel surprisingly bored by other "classics" the internet loves from the same era. I was so sad to not feel the joy for the dark crystal when I tried to rewatch as an aduot. That movie was so magical to me as a kid.

"Video games" is a pretty broad descriptor, though. I've been playing a series called Full of Cats. You look around a picture and click on all the cats. That's definitely not the same skillset as Super Meat Boy, and neither of them are Europa Universalis.

Is this bait? Because you're so fucking wrong I don't even know where to start. Just enjoy not watching Princess Bride and tell your meatspace friends your thoughts on how "bad" it is. I'm sure it'll be fun.

Reminder: "Secrets you don't want to make..." thread is still up!

You mean you get fake shit, not answers. Stop.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's a free country (for some), you're allowed to be wrong.

And this is how AI psychosis starts…

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is a weird comment. How is one wrong about personal taste?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Dude. The romantic relationship is meant to be trite and overblown and exist only as a mechanism for the adventure and comedy. The movie makes it so clear that I recognized that even as a kid.

It's the story of a grandfather's love for his sick grandson, trying to cheer him up with a ridiculous tale. I think that's why it's held its appeal for a lot of people, along with the incredible ensemble cast you mention and a horde of quotable lines that made it a pop culture phenomenon before memes existed.

And nobody got slapped. JFC.

Either bait or the movie went straight over OP's head.

Coughing

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-05-11 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone figured out tricks for that phase of a cold where everything is draining, good, but you can't stop coughing to get any sleep?

Do you like video games?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
What genres?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Good news OP: it's unlikely to end.

Bad news: cost of use is going to skyrocket once users are hooked.

I just chug Robitussin. If you can't use dextromethorphan, my sympathies.

Have you stopped touching your eyes yet? That's how to not get colds.

Single player, 3rd POV, story rich, preferably stealthy. I'm also a graphics snob and I canNOT with bad voice acting. My wife prefers builder or civ type games.

I love video games; except for stuff from the library, they're the most cost effective entertainment there is. I payed $5 for a game I played for 200 hours.

Just Tetris and FreeCell.

What media have you DNF'd recently?

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Tried watching a movie called Trap House on Netflix. Genuinely the worst movie I've tried to watch this year.

I stick a lozenge in my cheek and then sleep on that side.

(Anonymous) 2026-05-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP

I mean, speaking as someone who lived through the 80s, I've never gotten the hype outside of some memeable dialogue. I don't hate it, it's just okay.
