I don't get slash either. In fact, I think it's rather stupid that people feel the need to change character's sexual orientations at all.

This argument is the worst argument ever. If a character only ever shows interest in the opposite sex, claiming that they could be bisexual just to suit your stupid ship is reaching, regardless of whether or not the character ever said "I'M STRAIGHT, GODDAMN IT, STRAIGHT".

If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's not a goddamn zebra. But if you need every little thing spelled out in black and white, regardless of your context clues, you're probably an idiot.

I'm just saying that in a lot of specific fandoms, even if a character is straight, some people actually argue (like for realsies) that they're really actually gay and just confused.

Because of the gender of the person they ship them with. Seems pretty clear to me. It doesn't even always involve changing their sexual orientation.

I think it's kind of stupid to assume that unless a woman is driving a pick up truck with a tool-belt strapped to her hips and fixing cars or a guy is sashaying around with a limp wrist and lisping every other syllable and stating that everything is "FABULOUS!" that a character is OMG SO HETERO!

What if they're not changing it? What if the characters are already gay?

Here's what I'm wondering. If "canon" means Boy-A is dating Girl-B, does that mean that fanfics that put Boy-A with Girl-C are "rather stupid"? Or putting any characters together, het or otherwise, that aren't already together in the canon? Because you're changing who the person likes? Because if that's the case, then every EO fic-writer out there should fear you.
