2. You have no idea how many people I've wanted to say that to. :x A muse is your ability to write a certain character, not a little person growing in your head with thoughts and opinions that could take over yours. It's one thing to feel happy or sad about something your character's going through, but it's pretty awkward when more than a few of my friends talk about feeling physically unwell because of it. :|

I did this recently in my advanced creative writing class.

For about 20 other people. About 15 which don't know what a Mary Sue or Gary Stue is.

About 7 that actually sucked and needed me to tell them about Sue's and Stue's, along with grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and dear god what is this stolen plot.

I feel your pain. It was... difficult.

I dunno if stroking egos is the goal of the love memes, but I will say it's so nice to come home from a bad day and see some kind words from your friends, who sometimes you doubt even like you. It's reassurance, and sometimes people need that.

Maybe you're being bitter, maybe not. It's not my position to say. But I don't understand how you could be upset when someone says, "I like you because..." to you. I don't see how that's bad at all, and I guess I don't see how it's fair to be upset at people for doing it.

To me, a meme is something that everybody posts in their journals and whatnot that just gets around. That includes surveys, quizzes, and all sorts of random things. Basically, it's an internet fad that makes its rounds on the internet.

In the case of love (or hate) memes, it's a post or comm that people post in anonymously to express their love (or hate) for certain subjects/fandoms/people etc. In a way, fandom secrets is a meme.

I'd like to add a vote of support for love memes. Why is it that saying someone nice about someone or even having the slightest drop of a sense of accomplishment/happiness with one's own work is somehow wanky/egotistical/a sign of being a bad person, while being abusive/destructive/mean/a troll/ stalkerish is applauded for being honest and direct and not egotistical?

When it's actually dishonest, indirect, and much more egotistical to stage an attack than to offer love?
