Well, I would argue to this that one can like some parts of something but not others, as this reduces any objections anyone has to any aspects of feminism to "You don't like [X thing about Y bigger thing]? Fine! None at all for you!"

I see this argument trotted out a lot to counter objections that people have to certain aspects and attitudes, and it just doesn't make sense. A weak analogy, but one might as well say "What? You don't like 'Minutes to Midnight' and think that Linkin Park needs to go back and learn how to sing again? Well, you sure seem to be enjoying 'Meteora'! Hypocrisy!"

Not to say that I agree with all of the things raised in these "dislike feminists" comments, but this "all or nothing" mindset is... dumb. One can like the past of something without necessarily liking all of its present manifestations.

ITA with your last point. So what if a woman wants to be a housewife and raise children and take care of her family? So what if a woman wants the man to be the dominant one in the relationship/lifestyle? She's not forcing anyone else to live her life, nor is she proclaiming her life choices to be the only correct ones to make, and I hate that she gets used as an example by other women of "what not to do" and "a failure" and gets made to feel like she should be ashamed of herself. Let's not even get into what kind of monster a man who wants that kind of woman is made out to be.

The answer would be 2010. This is mainly directed to all the people claiming modern feminists don't mean as much as those from the first and second waves (not you in particular, but there seems to be an awful lot of people with this opinion on this thread.)

Creating awareness is good. Discussing sexism and other subjects and their representation in media is good. But it's in no way the same as what suffragists and protestants did in their time, and what feminists today do outside of the goddamn internet. It's one thing to have discussion forums and pointing out double standards and irresponsible handling of material in the media, but there's a (and I'm hoping it's just a small) group of 'feminist' that all they do is attack others. Throwing the word misogynist, homophobic or privileged or anything else like that and dogpiling some poor sap over the internet is going to do jack-shit if it's all you do. Don't you dare compare those assholes to the women who went and go out there and put actual effort into bettering our situation.
