Actually, the TV anime is quite recent (it came out sometime in the 2000s), it's the manga and original OVA that's old.

I'm following the 'good omens' tag on tumblr and every time someone posts their ideal Crowley, it makes me dread the upcoming adaptation (although Robert Pattinson is actually the least offensive suggestion I've heard so far). I really hope they go for fairly unknown actors for both Crowley and Aziraphale.

But do we ever see any non-protagonist characters in the show not "revolving" around Sherlock and John other than the bad guys and their victims? Whenever we see any of them, it's got something to do with the main characters. That doesn't mean their personalities aren't strong or fleshed out, that's just how these things work sometimes.

The ones saying it's "karma" are the more insensitive ones.

I believe it's Moffat's weakness in characterization because this is kind of how I felt about all the characters in series 5. I like them all well enough but didn't make any intense connections.

There's nothing wrong with that, I'm just...surprised. Any time someone ventures out of the field their family dominates, I wonder if it's because they actually have a passion for it or if they just want to be different.

(It also boggles my mind a bit because journalism is a widely varied field, with room for art if you have the connections, which she appears to. I just don't see the motivation for becoming a Hollywood actress versus a stage actress if you love acting, I guess.)

I don't doubt that someone could have painted it over in the however long it took John to find Sherlock. Big area. But that the paint would be DRY? Uhm... Seriously?

And everyone kept one-upping Sherlock. John did it twice (with the diary, and with his phone), and Sarah did (with Soo Lin's help). Next to his wild leaps of deduction, that was just ODD.

That's another thing. HOW did they mistake John for Sherlock? I mean, sure. He had Sherlock's credit card and a cheque in his wallet. But he also had his wallet, with (I'm quite certain), his own ID, bank cards, and goodness knows what else. The fact that he was standing outside Soo Lin's flat, while someone was inside observing things should have been a bit of a give-away as well.

This is a case where I honestly think passing the Bedchel test would make the show worse, because it would essentially be putting unnecessary filler in what is already a way too short season.

And the second episode was loaded with extremely fun and exciting moments, and the puzzle was interesting and they solved it in a believable way. The interaction between John and Sherlock was amazing. So yeah, maybe the writers could have made the bad guys French instead of Chinese, and not occurred the wrath, but I don't have a problem with it being Chinese. It's still a good story.

Again, I don't watch the show, so I don't know what it's like. I'm merely pointing out that having two MALE main characters doesn't mean a show can't pass the test.
