Seeing as how the entire cast of this show has more problems than a math book, I'd say there's nothing wrong with getting interested in psychology because of it!

HOW LONG DO I HAVE, DOCTOR?

This is a good comment ♥

I've always found it kind of odd that poems and songs are expected to be more personal and "true" than stories and novels. Granted, a lot of poets (and songwriters) do write autobiographically. But there's nothing wrong with writing a poem that's fictional, or using metaphor to describe something that's true, either.

Your .gif is made of EPIC WIN.

[identity profile] sxiz.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
well yeah, but they didn't show anything WRONG with that.

maybe. never seen the episode after all. did they show her frustration at being hired to be a stereotype? my guess is no.

I'm all for calling out bullshit when it happens, but I wish more people weren't so automatically antagonistic over things others like. And when I say bullshit, I mean bullshit where we see porn where kids actually look like kids. Most of the fanwork including gen is hardly the case.

I dunno, I actively hated it (and still do) from the moment I first saw it coming, and that was in book three. It felt so obvious she was setting up a "Slap slap kiss kiss" relationship, and the whole thing felt so forced, trite, and unhealthy that I just wanted to smack my head against a wall every time she gave them another "moment."

I didn't even join fandom until the fifth book, so, I dunno, it never seemed like a secret to me (which was another reason I hated it--that it was so blatant that was the pairing she was setting up that it was just boring and I wanted them to get it the heck over with).

And let's not forget John's girlfriend who couldn't TIP OVER HER CHAIR to save her life.

Thank you! God, that drove me more insane than any of the Asian stereotyping. For fuck's sake lady, tip over the chair. Of course John tips over his chair :| Also, why gag her? Everyone was making lots of noise so there was no practical reason to gag her plot-wise. Problem writing female dialogue? Just gag 'em!

(Don't even get me started on the James Bond villian-esque crossbow of dooom. Did they go back to the performance hall just to set up a crossbow in a tunnel? They have a gun for fuck's sake, I think that's intimidating enough, thank you. And they set up a sand bag/pulley system? Whut.)

You can enjoy problematic things, but stop defending them like they're perfect and throwing in a little shame for people who take a critical eye to things!

Yes x1000. I love poking fun at the shows and movies I love or even, yes, criticizing when they slip up. Finding plot holes gives me honest joy sometimes (is this just the MST3K fan in me?) I don't know, I think being able to find the flaws in things you love makes you appreciate the successful bits even more (or to put it differently, something has to be fucking awesome if, despite its problems, it's still primarily awesome.)

I noticed in another comment (I assume by you), you mention that you dislike how there are no repercussions for being a complete ass. And I think Sherlock is just that: a complete ass. Holmes is absolutely rude and insulting on occasion in canon but somehow it's just different; like he truly, honestly can't understand how others are not equipped with the same faculties. BBC Sherlock demeans and verbally attacks everyone and is constantly, purposefully belittling.

I think you should watch the episode.

As for her not being frustrated: Considering she was fleeing for her life and her safety, I don't think she'd be too picky at what job she could get. The fact that it was in a nice museum AND she enjoyed her work so much that she risked dying just so she could continue doing it, I doubt she was frustrated with the job.

And it could also be dumb luck or meeting the right people, you never know...

Yes and yes.
I'm starting to think OP is really young. Or just trolling.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Bearing in mind the fact that I really do just hate that pairing so much...

That's a lousy reason. The whole "X deserves better than Y" is rarely a good reason. I mean, Hermione and Ron both deserve better, IMHO, in the sense that while Ron might not be ideal for Hermione, Hermione is also made up of a boatload of issues that Ron never really seemed to be equipped to deal with, personality-wise. But it's not the fault of one specific person, just that the pairing itself doesn't work.

It always just rubs me the wrong way to be phrased as "So and so deserves..." when it comes to shipping or not shipping.

Plenty of these in the fanart are Asians.

Don't worry about it! Sometimes you have to hunt for good while to find a community your comfortable with. LJ's got its own quirks that seem to be present just about in any community, but I hate to think that you feel you have to fit in to participate.

LJ ain't a "great" thing, but I like it for the way its organized and somewhat easier to navigate. I mean I technically only recently got an account; loved F!S for years, but only eventually signed up for locked posts on [livejournal.com profile] hetalia. Pretty sure people are always repeating it here, but fandom really is what you make it to be. If dA and youtube are sufficient for your discussion times, what's wrong with that :D

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. I consider myself a feminist, and I agree with you whole-heartedly. Why? Because I believe that all people are equal, so well-written male characters are just as important and interesting as female ones.

Also, I didn't dislike the second episode because of any sort of racism (although they did indulge in a lot of stereotypes). I disliked it because the plot felt so lazy and filler-ish compared to the other two, and I felt like elements of it were cribbed straight from generic procedural shows.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-03-18 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I'm not into the criminal minds fanfic, but a lot of baby-popping fanfic I saw (in other fandoms) was actually written by girls significantly younger than me...

Dude, even without "Joker romance," that song still works for Joker/Harley---it could be a more hardcore reading of Harley's feelings.
