I'm sorry if this sounds incredibly condescending, but I find Harry Potter secrets like this kind of adorable, like the people making them sound like they've pondered something for the Very First Time and it's not the most hotly debated issue in an enormous fandom or anything.
OP, if you don't ship Ron/Hermione, you're definitely not alone, there are MANY people who feel this way, often partly because they ship Hermione with Harry or someone else, and sometimes, more rarely, because they ship Ron with someone else. You can do the same as long as long as you're nice to the people who feel otherwise, as it goes in all shipping wars. It's best you don't phrase it as "why Hermione chose him", because that sounds like Ron-bashing and there's a stigma against Ron-haters in this fandom because he got a lot of hate during the times of the great R/H verses H/H ship wars. I'm not sure what Rupert Grint as an actor has to do with this secret, though. Hermione's not with Rupert Grint, she's with Ron Weasley. Rupert is a real person, Hermione is a fictional character.
And if you already knew all that, and I'm just misinterpreting this secret, I'll stop being a condescending prick/ insufferable know-it-all

As far as the shipping goes. I like Ron/Hermione, though I also like other couples with either Ron or Hermione. (I really don't get the 'exclusive' shipping so many people seem to experience.)

Maybe she could've gotten someone better, but I think the reason is that it was coming on from SO LONG.

BUT I AGREE, RUPERT KICKS ASS. Unsung hero of these movies, consistently awesome, even when the script shackles him into long silences broken up only by the occasional "bloody hell!" he manages to steal scenes right out from under people, fine fresh fierce etc. :D

I could see that Hermione was going to end up with Ron ever since I saw the first movie / read the fourth book. And I don't even ship them.

I like both Ron and Hermione equally, they're both good people, so when you say that Hermione could've done better, I get a little confused. Both have big flaws in them, but neither is better than the other. The fact that they're different, personality-wise, only confirms my belief that opposites attract. Just my two cents...

It finally occurred to me that maybe all the readers who didn't see R/Hr as inevitable from the first book were the ones who started reading the series when they were kids. I started reading it as an adult, so maybe the reason it seemed really obvious what JKR was doing there was that I'd seen it done so many times.

What does Grint have to do with whom Hermione chose? This secret went from A to Q pretty damn quickly.

That being said, there are plenty of reasons why she chose Ron; in fact there are essay out there explaining it quite well, so I'm not going to sit here and get into the details of it. Of all the characters we're shown in HP, Ron was the best suited one for what Hermione wanted and needed (someone who challenged her and pushed her), so outside of an unnamed character, Ron was her match.

I mean, she fell for her best friend, which is one of the oldest plotlines in literature.

She could do better than a boy who vomited slugs defending her from a word she didn't know was mean, because he knew it, had more of a right than anyone in the trio to use it, but recognized it for the racist bs it was?

SHe can do better than a boy who at twelve, faced his worst fears to try and figure out who had petrified her?

Yes, he has some maurity issues (try spending time with your average teenage boy these days and tell me Ron is immature) and no, he is not as intellectually gifted as her. But he had had the heart of the trio, the common sense, and he loved her.

Maybew you don't see what she sees in him, but there are many, many who do. Including the author, who based him on her best friend.

I agree with this secret in the sense that I think Hermione should've been with a different character. Not gonna say who, though. That'd cause a pairing war. -coughhack-harry,totallyharry-cough-

At the same time, I think it's a little...I don't know, unfair to say Hermione /deserved better/. Ron is a very fine character and completely suitable as a partner for Hermione. I would've written differently, but I'm not JKR, and I enjoyed the R/Hr storyline anyway. Just because you think Hermione should be with someone else doesn't make Ron automatically inferior in all ways.
