... I LOVE YOU. ;-;

You have NO idea how much I've wanted to see a version of Hamlet where Horatio was a woman (crossdressing or no). Go for it, anon!

(Out of curiosity, would she still be Horatio, or would she be known as Horatia/some female name?)

It wasn't even the obvious shots of cabs, because Sherlock couldn't know about that. It was that the first case was about some guy who got in a cab and hadn't seen anyone since. It wasn't that hard of a deduction from there, and I kept wondering why the fuck Sherlock hadn't thought about any of this or why, when he connected it to the traveling, he didn't go immediately to the cabby, not the passenger. You can't present someone as brilliant and then have them make really dumb mistakes.

From the first shot of the second case, with the yellow writing, I knew they were going to go for stereotypes, and they did. The third episode is actually better on terms of mystery but only because Sherlock is the only one with most of the clues and it get's visibly more dangerous at the beginning.

The actual Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock kinda annoys me, because again, he's presented as brilliant and while he is, because Watson's narrating I never notice what Sherlock notices and I feel like that means Doyle and consequently Sherlock can solve mysteries out of thin air.

So yeah, I love the characters and the conversations, so I watch for that.

Sorry?

Oh? I just donated some money to Red Cross and am a poor uni student, so it would help to know what the other groups are. :o

he didn't go immediately to the cabby, not the passenger

Uggghh, that! I ended up so confused at that point because I couldn't figure out why the cab driver was a tourist until it clicked that Sherlock was just a bloody idiot and was talking to the passenger. It doesn't help that I'm Canadian and, despite watching tons of British tv recently, I still haven't figured out that drivers sit on the opposite side of the car than I'm used to.

I didn't catch stereotypes with the yellow paint, but I've never been able to catch stuff like that. Yellow meaning anything negative in that context just doesn't occur to me.

I thought that being able to solve mysteries out of thin air was the point of Sherlock Holmes? XD Perversely, I actually prefer it when I don't get any clues as to what the detective type is noticing - there's little point in reading/watching a mystery novel/show for me when there are clues. I always, always figure out what's going on ages in advance. Too many years of teaching myself to notice those things and extrapolate the likely conclusion(s) as a kid, I guess.

I saw this an my frist reaction was "Rupert Grint aside, I sort of agree."

then I went: "wait, I do?"

then I said: "No. There's so much more to Ron..."

So I asked myself: "so, what is it? What is it that makes me love this ship?"

and then I saw your comment.

Thank you, Anon. :)

I can't confirm, but she overenunciates "poker face" to something more like "poke errrr face", which might contribute; she might switch out lyrics in live performances.

Yeah, the passenger part, and the subsequent dismissal of the cabby when he came up to the apt. I was just shaking my head at that point.

It was the yellow paint coupled with the Asian love story where they were surrounded by ~Ancient China~ and subsequent death where he immediately knew what the paint meant. I was hoping that they were just trying to bring in a minority character, but I was surprised at my lack of faith of that.

By thin air, I mean it always felt like a writing cop-out. Like Doyle didn't know how to solve his mysteries logically from the way he presented them, so he made up clues that Sherlock notices afterward. That's why I like the really good Agatha Christie Poirot novels, since you might be able to figure it out, but it's a logical mystery. (I'm not even that observant in RL, but I learned movie/tv/book tropes very very early).

This is what I would want too! (If I ever got off my lazy butt and finished the thing)

In a happy place?

[identity profile] capthollywood.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Doctors Without Borders is probably my favourite group, I don't know if they're involved in the Japan situation right now but considering their very humanitarian-based work I would assume so. You can have the website if you'd like.

I don't have any other sites on me right now, but Doctors Without Borders is definitely worth checking out. I know a lot of different journalists and human rights specialists consider it the best around.

I always wondered how he did double duty on Merlin and Holmes. Now I know. /fail

[identity profile] capthollywood.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I think it's worth pointing out that at least the internet cares about this. Unarmed citizens are getting shot in Bahrain and Libya and fandom could care less (admittedly, its not their place to care, but when there's a secret saying "Save Japan with music"). And considering how prepared Japan was for the whole event, things could have been a lot worse. I don't want to undermine the struggles each individual Japanese disaster victim has gone through, but it's thankful Japan was as prepared as it was. I still think it's not the biggest issue internationally, though.

I'm only a tiny bit bitter, and was kind of expecting the huge fandom backlash over Japan.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm sure I used it in the past, and honestly, probably in regards to that very pairing, but that would've been in my wee baby days of fandom. It's even worse when the statement is something like "X deserves Y because he's been through so much!" because then it has the added distaste for making "Y" the prize that "X" deserves, instead of an actual person.

I understand what your getting at, anon. I never really shipped Sakura and Tomoyo up till I saw the Japanese dub for the first time. Although, it is technically incest. See, Nadeshiko (Sakura's Mom) has a first cousin named Sonomi, and her cousin had Tomoyo making Tomoyo and Sakura second cousins. Which is kind of funny because Sonomi was in love with Nadeshiko just like Tomoyo loves Sakura. This is why she hates Fujitaka (Sakura's Dad) for marrying Sakura's mom.
Clamp likes to mess with peoples minds a lot. >__<;

Ok, I'll at least have a look. :)

[identity profile] cravatfiend.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of think of it as twitter with pictures. And if you like something someone has posted, you can click reblog and show all your followers, yay! I find that kind of fun, but you're right in that the connection is different than on here. It's like trying to converse using only gifs - fun, but slightly limiting :P

This.

So much happier for the friends I have, especially on Facebook.

I'm in love with the manga above all, but the more recent anime had the most convenient screengrab :)

Not going to lie, the main appeal of the series is its admirably realistic depictions of mid-70s air combat and aircraft. As with any realistic portrayal of warfare, this can lead to some boring bits. In terms of pilot interaction, one of the strong points for me was actually how well the show managed to convey and develop pilot relationships through their actions and dispositions in combat rather than through explicit dialogue, but that's pretty subjective sooo

Re: OP

[identity profile] galerian-ash.livejournal.com 2011-03-19 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling I'd probably love the manga the most too, if I only I didn't have to rely on picture-reading it so much :\ It's a pity that it was never fully translated in a language I know, I feel like I'm missing out on so much... The same goes for the series she did with Fumimura Shou; Phantom Burai. I don't know if you're familiar with that one, but if not I really recommend it!

I'm assuming you must have been involved in some way with the aircraft industry/field. If not, I'm sorry for misunderstanding. I've had my share of airplanes, though nothing close to combat, but I know right off the bat it's boring if any story decides to present in a realistic light.

I just didn't like it. The story moved too slow.

I think that anyone who thinks that the two leads of that series are NOT trans is completely missing the point of the series.

Exactly. (Except for the times where, you know, it takes the Doctor most of the episode (or two-parter) to figure out what is revealed to be blindingly obvious.)
