Kind of OT, but I had a kind of coincidence freakout when I scrolled down and saw that secret the second Raise Your Glass started on my media player...

Guess it would have been even better if it had been Fucking Perfect. But hey.

(Oh, yeah, and everyone's entitled to their opinion, but my personal opinion is that P!nk is fucking badass. She's got me through a lot of shit)

I really liked her until "Rockstar", TBH. Maybe I'm missing the point, but I think she was trying to explain that the divorce didn't effect her when it did and she sounded like she was in denial. That's when I started not liking her. Then "Raise Your Glass" finally was the deal breaker, just because I thought she should probably mature by now. Not trying to hate, but that's my opinion of her.


EDIT: But I should listen to her other recent songs (on the new album, only have heard three), just to see. I really want to start liking her again. I adored how she stood out against the generic pop stars.

but then again, I try and remind myself that most of Pink's stuff (and Gaga's, and Perry's, etc.) are largely aimed at young teens. It might not seem that way because of the media saturation, but I think when they make those bluntly inspirational songs, it's because they're writing them for 13 and 14 year old girls.

I remember hearing REM talk about 'Everybody Hurts' one time, and they said pretty much the same thing. It's a song for high schoolers, and that's why it's so simple.

Part of the reason why I love Pink is that she doesn't take herself too seriously. So why should you? She may be annoying and in-your-face, but that's her thing.
I don't think her songs are extraordinary, but I find her lyrics fun and/or thought provoking ("Stupid Girls", "Don't let me get me", "Dear Mr. President" to name a few). I'm glad she's a mainstream artist.

Pink is fucking fabulous. I bet if she shut her mouth and flipped her hair and sang about how sex and love makes her feel awesome you'd adore her.

Pink is making lots of money, and having lots of fun while doing so. I don't begrudge her any of that. Songs like 'Raise Your Glass' aren't meant to be taken seriously, they're fun pop songs, with a good message. The lyrics even contain the phrase "why so serious?". It's supposed to be a goofy and obnoxious song. That's her image. I'd also take 'Fuckin Perfect' over 'Firework' and 'Born this Way' any day of the week, because Pink has been doing songs with similar messages way before they did.

Pink has also done some very beautiful songs like 'Glitter in the Air' and 'Crystal Ball', with 'Crystal Ball' being a more serious approach to being yourself, getting over your flaws, and taking the path you want without fear of the future. She also did the song 'Dear Mr. President' with the Indigo Girls about George w. Bush, which was a very open and angry criticism. I'll respect her forever for that one song alone.

I guess I think that you can get an idea of an artist by singles alone, but you can't judge them fully from a handful of songs. But of course, to each their own, if you really don't like her that's your business, but I personally love her.

thank god I'm not the only one. she's try-too-hard, I don't care about how she goes places just to get into fights, and I've been irritated with her ever since she tried to be all feminist with "Stupid Girls" while actually giving it some kinda sexist undertones.

I like her music, but she rides way too hard on this "I AM SUCH AN OUTCAST AND HARDCORE, EVEN THOUGH I AM A COOKIE CUTTER ROCK CHICK THAT GOT HER ATTITUDE OUT OF A 'HOW TO FIT CLICHE' BOOK, AND MAKE POP MUSIC FOR TEENAGE GIRLS!!"

I also found it amusing that in the "Fuckin Perfect" video, the main girl is scratching "skinny bitches" into a wall, but she's a fucking stick, herself.
But I guess whatever "prep" cliche is okay, even if it makes no sense for the main character to feel bad about.

Seriously, trying way too hard.
I guess I'll just have to wait until a song comes out about "Fuck the stupid emos in their stupid faces" to feel a bit of balance, here.

This is the kind of secret where I'm normally like "yeah, whatever, to each his own".

But this is kind of an exception.

P!nk's music helped me come to terms with the fact that I was raped, that the rape wasn't my fault, and that I could move on from it. She's pulled me out of depression more times than I can count, and I know that's pathetic, but it's true. Fucking Perfect makes me cry every time I hear it, but it's also one of the only songs in the world that can make me feel like I'm worth something. And this might sound like overdramatic, emo-kid crap, and maybe it is, but you know what?

P!nk's amazing, and you can go fuck yourself with a bargepole.
