There's a lot of faults in this show but the heart of it--the relationship between Sam and Dean--is one of the best I've seen.

Think about it: how many other shows explore the complexities of a relationship that isn't romantic or sexual?

I don't really give a damn about this show, I tried watching it and found it boring but I don't hate it or anything.

The thing that unnerves me are the fans. And I'm not saying all of them are like that, but I have seldom seen such a bunch of intrusive crazies. You get sucked into their drama and know all about the show even if you're not in the fandom at all because they're everywhere.
Some people need to tone it down a notch.

Really? I dunno, whenever I see a show I don't care for I just... don't watch it. I never wish it would die off. But to each their own, I guess. Your hateboner is strong, young padawan.

I've recently watched SPN. I have to admit that I was put off for a long time because of how... rabid the fandom seems, but honestly, the canon? I find it hilarious. It can be touching, it can be crazy, it can be random as hell, but mostly the show just seems to troll its fandom at every opportunity. It's not a good show per se, but it is really amazing how far the writing goes out there. I really admire the balls of the writers, tbh.

And all the characters are dicks. All of them. It's like watching a bunch of dicks to dickish things to bigger dicks just to get out on top. And it's hilarious.

I gave up at the beginning of the second season and I wonder, is every episode still the same as the one before? It's just...all the same, every episode has the exact same structure: they find something fishy, they impersonate some officials, they meet a damsel in distress (sometimes she has a kid), one of them flirts with her a bit, they google and/or go to the library, they drive a bit, they kill the bad guy saving the damsel (and the optional kid) by extension, they drive off into the sunset. THE END

The entire set-up is so awful: Two brothers and road trip across America. Cheap twists. Bullshit. Every episode is the same monotonous concept, it's torture to sit through.

And Dean's attitude is supposed to be the cool, tough archetype? It's fucking laughable.

You may not find any redeeming qualities OP, but I can't find even a single reason to watch this, and I have, and everytime I come back disliking this show even more. I'm happy someone out there has the same rationality. This show is garbage.

Once again, SPN and it's fandom proves popularity means nothing in this world.

Hm I've seen three or so episodes at the urging of my friends. In all of them I thought the spook story was engaging and the violence was very . . . violenty, if you're into that. I'm not, but I thought it was well done, and I thought the acting was perfectly serviceable for what it is.

From everything I've heard about the series, it probably would've been better as a trilogy of movies, then it could've avoided the formulaic thing that seems to be turning people off.

Anyway, I can believe that you hate it as much as you do, but you don't represent your point particularly well. You just sound like you're stroking an irrational hate-on.

So late to the party, but w/e. I really wanted to like this show, despite the batshit fandom and some really rude stans I've seen here, because honestly from the sound of it, I thought it would be cheesy fun with some monster-fightin' action and ~deep sibling relationship that everyone talks about. But once I've seen it holy shit, this show really is crap. Beyond "it's so bad it's good" to a "this shit has no redeeming quality" territory.

Sam and Dean's relationship is neither special nor profound. It's not even engaging. And the misogyny in the show is mind-blowing. First I couldn't believe it, I really thought it was being satirical or ironic or something, anything buuuut nope. The show is consistently, horrifyingly misogynistic. And even after I've resigned to the shallowness and male-gaze of it all, it turns out that the scary factor is non-existent. For a show that is called Supernatural, it's not the least bit scary.

Feel free to hate a show. But I find it hard to believe you can find no redeeming qualities in SPN at all.

I hate shows like Gossip Girl and Smallville. I can't stand to watch even a minute of them. But I'm not going to say they have no redeeming qualities. Because if they didn't, they wouldn't be so well liked. And I certainly consider myself some sort of ~special snowflake~ who can see when a show has nothing going for it, even when others can't.
