...This is fucking insane. Just because someone bad mouthed you *gasp* behind your back!!11! doesn't mean you get to ban them from the comm you mod. That is so unbelievably childish I don't even know what to say.

I'm so glad I'm not in a fandom like this. Every day I find more reasons to love and respect the mods of my comm. ♥

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure she can kick them out, it's her own comm. They can make their own sandbox to play in if they don't like her. (Which they did, so more power to them)

Again, the 429 other people in the comm don't seem to have a problem with the way we run [livejournal.com profile] monster_high. Soo yeah. We didn't start the fire.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they do have a problem with your modding but after seeing what asshats you are, they don't want to say anything. God knows I've kept my mouth shut because if I spoke outside the community but still somewhere you might see it, you'd ban me immediately. The comm has a lot of things I enjoy so I'd rather stay in it even if you're total douchecanoes.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally your prerogative.

Re: the banning thing- see that's the thing, though. I don't see the point of complaining about fandom shit in the first place, especially when I might have mutual friends with the mod of any community I'm in. Why say anything at all, if you know it could have repercussions/the person you're writing about could see it? What we do isn't at all different from what happens in the real world. Think of it like a company. Don't write something negative that someone else might find out about and then get mad when there are consequences for what you've written.

The internet is not a private place. I don't bitch about anything internet related in my personal journal for this very reason, and you're wise in not doing so yourself.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Why say anything at all, if you know it could have repercussions/the person you're writing about could see it?

Because if a comm is run by a sensible mod (i.e. not you lot), it doesn't matter what you say outside the comm. You could call the mods a team of horsefaced cockbibs in your own journal, even outside a friends lock, and they wouldn't care as long as you don't cause trouble in the comm. They might be hurt or maybe even call them out on it outside the comm, but it would have nothing to do with the op's standing in the comm.

You don't seem to realize that people have the right to say whatever they want to, especially when they think they're talking among friends, and only a total asshole mod would use that against them in the context of a comm.

The internet is not the same thing as the real world. Modding a comm =/= leading a company. Jesus, if you can't see how those two things are different from each other, it's not wonder you're unable to make a difference between private and public.

[identity profile] la-localfreak.livejournal.com 2011-05-07 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to jump in here, but maybe I've mis-understood. This post where the complaints were was flocked right? So if I, in RL, talk to my friends about how say, theoretically, I hated a boss of mine he/she is perfectly within their rights to fire me?

Actually no. Even if a friend of mine did go and say to my boss 'you know localfreak hates you', regardless of their faults, they would not fire me. Not only would it be an unfair dismissal, so they COULDN'T, but they're adult enough to know that if people rant about their job they still don't want to lose it, and that if people say in private to someone they hate you the best response is to rise above it and ignore it.

I know fandom isn't the RL but you suggested to think of it like a company. From what I understand the person who posted wasn't whining about the 'Company' (read the comm) but the Moderator (read the boss)and their behaviour within the comm and that's different.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Also, we're not trying to be "loved and respected" mods, we're trying to be efficient ones. That means kicking out the drama llamas. Couldn't give a fuck if doing so means they don't like us. There are plenty of other Monster High communities out there. Dozens, actually.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
except they specifically kept the drama OUT of the community by posting an f-locked entry. Which means they didn't want to be a "drama llama"--if I complain about not liking my boss in my journal, does that make me a drama llama at my job? I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Everyone gets fed up and rants about SOMETHING to their friends. It's a way to vent, get something off your chest, and then move on.

And oddly enough, you're talking plenty of shit about people who mod a comm you're in and yet they haven't banned you yet even though this whole thread pretty much proves that you thrive on drama.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I would never complain about my boss online. Too risky. Only journal I'd complain in about that particular topic would be one with pen and paper.

I know you're talking about ag>18. And since that whole clique of members came in and started defending the member who's been banned, I've been expecting to be banned from there as retaliation. Kudos to them for not doing so, I guess.

I only participate in drama when I think people are being dumb to my friends. Which isn't often, thankfully, but as you can see, this isn't the first time.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Kudos to them for not doing so, I guess.

Do you hear yourself? You're commending another community for not sinking to your level. Does this not give you any kind of pause?

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Because this is fandom. Why so serious?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've been expecting to be banned from there as retaliation.

the mods of AG > 18 have class and maturity and know how to not get all asshurt about shit outside of a comm. might not hurt you to get some.

or, you know, keep moving the goalposts and no true scotsmanning everywhere.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
The mods of ag>18 (at least one of them) were the ones that started this in the first place? So yeah no, try again.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
you have no idea what the mods of ag > 18 are like if that's what you think of them

[identity profile] allicapri.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what the mods of AG>18 are like. I have felt nothing but accepted, safe, encouraged, and respected in the last three years there. The atmosphere allows for adult discourse, disagreements, and even arguments with the attitude that we are adults who can handle ourselves and generally self-correct, and when stepping in is required it's done only to the level necessary to return the comm to an even keel.

Were I of the idea to run a community of my own, I couldn't have asked for a better model in how to do it.

I don't get the "sides" thing to this, I don't see life as if it were a game, etc. But I don't believe you realize how much you're contradicting yourself, and how badly the two of you commenting in just this thread alone make you, and the community as a whole, look. Yeah yeah sure, you don't care how you look. Except that's clearly not actually true, (and if it is.. that only really paints you as a sociopath lacking any remorse or empathy). What I'm trying to impart here is that someone completely neutral to the situation could find themselves in this thread and go "holy fuck, I've no idea what's going on, but those people are are sipping the bad kool-aid, huh?" and I'm not sure that's the impression you actually want to be giving.

fwiw? after this, I'm totally frightened to speak my mind, even immensely tactfully, in any community run by either of you. First it was "say things publicly, not behind her back", and when someone did that above, they still got banned, and the excuse was "well, that's because she said it here!". Basically what you're demonstrating is that there will ALWAYS be bullshit excuses for the crappy behavior that someone couldn't have possibly dreamed up of because they were merely pulled out of your asses at the last moment.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, if that's what you want to believe. If you will observe how I act in the actual comms outside of this wonderful little cesspool of drama, I'm actually a super chill mod. I'm not the one that bans people or goes looking for drama. I just tidy up posts and whatnot and ask people to put things under the cut. Sometimes I try to get more movement in the comm (like in [livejournal.com profile] mike_tina and [livejournal.com profile] santana_lopez). I don't have time to go looking in other people's journals, I barely have time to update my own.

This wanky post just happened to appear when I had a slice of free time in between the myriads of real life things I have to do, and it's been fun messing with/arguing/bantering with all these super fun anons. No skin off my back if you think I'm a bitch/sociopath/bad moderator/whatever.

I don't get why people are so up in arms about getting banned from communities. So what if you get banned? It's not keeping you from talking about what you love. If other people agree with you and you create your own comm, they will come and join you. Nothing to lose, really.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
But it doesn't really matter how you act *else where* if you ALSO act like you did here.

It's not an issue of you having free time or not. I guess it IS an issue of you finding it "fun" to be a bitch.

See, you say it's no skin, but if you don't care what your community members think, then why say "if you've a problem and come to us and talk about it openly, honestly, tactfully, etc"? I mean, those things contradict themselves.

My thing isn't about the being banned. It's about the kind of person that it takes to ban someone for disagreeing with them.

If you didn't care what people thought, you wouldn't keep responding. That you do, implies that you do. You can say things like free time, fun, etc all that you like, but if your behavior doesn't follow what you're saying, it just all reads as delusion.

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Because I do care what my community members think. And I'm always nice to anyone who comes to me with their concerns. What I -don't- care about is what they think about me. Difference.

I'll keep responding as long as people respond to me. Don't see how that makes me delusional, though.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's not really much of a difference when your behavior here gives the impression that you will not always be nice to anyone who comes to you with their concerns. I mean, what we're discussing them thinking about you is specifically that you, and Taz, will NOT allow that sort of honesty.

It's delusional to keep insisting that you don't care, and then keep responding. People who wouldn't care wouldn't respond because who cares what a bunch of anons here say, they can eat shit and die, ammirite?

Let it be known that even if you do approach them, respectfully, and privately through PM they treat you incredibly rudely and disrespectfully and then hide behind the whole "PM" thing. The victims of these PMs can't out the PMs because then they'll be bullied or banned (or likely both). It is impossible, at all, to approach them, no matter what lies they tell. All they are doing is playing games, and it's obvious they're very well practiced at these games and know best how to play dirty. It's far more frightening than it even appears here...

[identity profile] rhapsodyinpink.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Now that is a blatant lie and you know it. Two separate members pm'd me with their concerns and I was never anything but totally polite to them. I told them I would talk it over with the other moderators, and I did so, and Lori got back to both of them.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
You clearly have NO idea what Tanz said in those PMs when she 'got back to them'. They were nothing shy of hurtful, treating the person who wrote with concerns like they were childish, gullible, idiots not worth her time. I've seen the screencaps, maybe YOU should know what's really going on.
