Uh, I don't know much about Cassandra or whoever the hell that is, but characters are not real. You can resent them or even outright hate them for any reason you want.

I hate when people jump in to defend the honors of fictional characters. Sure, technically NOTHING is her fault, she is just written that way and lacks free will or a personality or a mind of her own.

Stephanie doesn't have the fault that DC ppl decided to send Cassandra to Hong Kong or wherever she is now. Also, I think this is something important for Stephanie and her character has been waiting for this for too long, it's not her fault that most people get all "OMG RACES" about this. Steph and Cass are BFFs too, so I'm sure the character respects a lot the former Batgirl (c'mon, half of the things Steph learnt were thanks to Cass) and looks forward her.

It's not her fault being white girl and it's not her fault whatever plot DC has for her, so instead of making rage, enjoy the comic.
Also, I think the best Batgirl ever is Barbara XD so yeah.

There's no point in comparing Batgirls, they're all cool in their own way.

I know I am the lone woman standing out in my field of crazy but I couldn't care less about Cass or any other 90's character. (a "90's character" is how I denote characters that "happened" before I got back into comics but don't have a lot of established history. I'm not saying I hate them I just don't care.)

I don't care about Tim!Robin, Steph!Robin, Steph!Spoiler, or earing!Superboy. However, all these characters have been "reinvented" and I find them to be totally awesome now. Instead of having another Batgirl everyone wishes would come back I think we should try to look forward to what could be on her horizon. It might not be Oracle class good but we can always hope. I mean that gray number was pretty smashing and you know inside of a decade we'll get a miniseries about what she was doing in Hong Kong.

p.s. I don't get why people always accuse people of blaming the character for something she has no control over when they say things like this. The OP didn't accuse Steph the person of doing anything to Cass. I never see that happen when people resent Hal Jordan.

i don't find it at all illogical that you would resent a character, op. a) not something you can really control and b) a completely logical transference of irritation with the artist/creator to the product of that artist/creator. i get peeved when i see that stupid at&t commercial on tv where the two people meet in the passing trains, get married and have a baby who becomes president - and of course, the baby who becomes president is a white dude. at&t couldn't be a little more gutsy? 40 years in the future, where one hopes that opportunity is greater, and it's just the same old same old from them. is the fact that i now kind of hate at&t cell service logical? who cares. fuck them.

I'm not too into DC but from what I pieced together from scans_daily back when I went and the few issues of Robin I have, Steph came first. Steph got screwed. People cried. She came back. Now they're crying over Cass.

It is impossible to make comic people happy when in order for one char to get ahead another has to be killed or retired.

Fuck this racist piece of shit OP. Nobody bats an eye at this kind of racism because...what? Whites "need to pay" or something? It's the same thing. Just change the ink and a word and suddenly it's a travesty. There's no difference. This is the point of racial equality.

Besides new characters always get trumpeted. Promoting a change in your story sells issues.

I feel just the same, OP. I love Steph, have ever since she was Spoiler. But honestly? I wish she was still Spoiler and Cass was still Batgirl.

I also wish One More Day had never occurred, that they'd stop whitewashing all the casts, that writers would stop making nice characters suddenly turn evil or assholish, and that they'd stop killing off characters for cheap drama.

And I want to win the lottery and buy three ponies that I will name George, Miles, and Itumiray.

Are you kidding? Hardly anyone likes Steph, and it's pretty much entirely because she's white and she replaced Cass. So many people won't even give her a chance. If Steph ever becomes more popular than Cass (which I think is pretty unlikely), it'll be despite her race.

I'd feel worse about it if Cass was a better character.

I wanted to like her, but she always felt like she never deserved to be part of the family; Bruce seemed to throw her into the suit without even thinking about it.

I really miss Cass too, and I can't be arsed to care about her replacement. The fact that she's yet another boring white girl in a fictional universe full of boring white girls is just an additional reason not to care, but it's not the primary one.
