Are you kidding me? Who actually gets held accountable for "what I would do if I was on a deserted island" stories? I mean, fuck, I didn't realize that when somebody asked me "what three books would you take if you were deserted on an island forever" that this was a serious measure of character.
I mean I'm pretty cool with hating on people who hate kids for no goddamn reason but honestly this is so hypothetical it's ridiculous. There was no baby killed or harmed and the baby in question isn't even real. It's not like kallanda_lee was babysitting and said "god I hate this kid I'm babysitting I wish I could let it starve to death." Cause sure, yeah, that would be fucked up. But this is nothing.

Given the person I am, I make a point of not babysitting. No kids are, or were every harmed by me either by malice or neglect. I think most people like me, who have trouble dealing with small kids, actually have the good sense not to put themselves into positions where we would be the sole carer of a baby.

I think it's also important to note that the "island" argument was originally used to illustrate that people should just continue their unwanted pregnancies.Since it would be "over in a few months", just like you'd be "rescued from the island" in a few months.

Which is a silly comparison, but also an infuriating one for those of us who feel strongly that abortion needs to be an option.

Also, even assuming the hypothertical child would somehow magically float to shore, chances are small you could save it even if you tried . Last I checked, there is no formula or even a herd of milk-bearing cows on deserted islands. Not to mention you might have to do pretty much anything to keep yourself alive.

If someone asked you "If you were stuck on an island and with a hot celeb of your choice, would you succumb to temptation and drug&rape them against their will?"

Saying YES to that question shows ~something~ about your intelligence, at least, even if you aren't going to be physically able to do so.

That was the question here, not something like "hey if you could only eat three things" the question was straight up, "WOULD YOU LET A BABY DIE?" and kallanda is like "call me a murderer~" goddamn. lol. just lol.

fuck it, i'd choose my dog and wouldn't look back. too bad if that makes me a monster. i'd be happier with my dog alive than a random stranger who i'll never see again. and when it all comes down to it, i'm living life for myself and my happiness. and i'd be happy knowing my dog is alive and safe.

To be honest; I really don't know. The reality is that the situation is hyper-hypothetical. Being the sole survivor on a deserted island with a baby is not actually likely to happen. Knowing you will be rescued in 5 months is even more unlikely.
Even if you were inclined to take care of the darn thing - what would you feed it? Coconut juice? There isn't exactly formula available there. So chances are it would die anyway, even if you genuinely tried saving it. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't know how to take care of one even if I wanted to.

Fact is, in a realistic situation, I would not ever care for a kid I didn't want. If I'd get pregnant, I'd abort (which the situation was about in the first place) and if someone else dumped their kid with me, I'd either bring it back to them or drop it off at a police station/foster care facility.

I think it's a very tough one for me, actually. Since it's not something I'd ever consider in a normal situation.

Do you know what you'd do? It's like those people claiming that they'd know they'd be a hero if they ever witnessed a crime. Nobody knows how they'd act in an extreme situation.

You know, I respect you for not backing down and jumping on the "JULIAN ASSANGE IS A RAPIST!!!!!!" SJ train back whenever that was, but damn. The whole leaving the baby to die thing... really kind of reflects badly on you, just sayin'. But like you said, the odds of that actually happening are like a googol to one, so it's not really something you have to worry about. :)

If you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, and had to pick three books to take with you, which would you choose? Note that you will be graded on this and for years we will bring up your answers whenever tangentially relevant to the conversation.

I just can't take the hypothetical seriously. I mean, step one is getting stranded on an island. It's just not going to happen. I think people are overestimating how likely plane passengers are to survive a crash in the middle of the ocean near deserted islands (I believe the likelihood would be somewhere in the area of zero, especially for a newborn). And the fact is that in those kinds of situations, ideal morality takes a backseat to survival.
I'm a pretty maternal person with a big soft spot for babies and zero tolerance for people actually harming kids, but this is just ri-goddamn-diculous.
