Way to sink to their level.

I was actually just talking about this on /cgl/ the other day, well...in terms of art work. I find it almost impossible for me to get crit these days. I have to post through several different sites in order to just get one :(

It confuses me, too, because before 2009 I could get concrit easily! Even on /ic/...now it's all about being dicks to people who want crit and help. I always get the same responses, which is something like, "Just stop drawing and read Loomis." Or "learn2anatomy!" Literally. Every. Time.

Before 2009, people actually /helped/ me and gave me feed back other than just telling me to go read books. I don't get it, and it is very frustrating. One of the most helpful pieces advice I EVER got that completely changed my artwork for the better was a simple sentence from some anon on /ic/ in '09: Think of the human body being built out of sacks of potatoes.

[identity profile] traciaknows.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thank goodness the show is only loosely based on the books... I read the first one- it was awful. I didn't see the point of continuing.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
You're right, you do sound bitter. It's probably your personality that drives people away.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I like him because he and Kotetsu are totally bros, and that's good enough for me.

Yes I am. I'm aware that it's very popular in Japan, but Japanese fandom and Western fandom tend to be completely unrelated phenomenon... it's rare for there to be an anime fandom where the Japanese fans and the fans from the US/Europe/any-Western-nation interact in any significant way.

T&B fandom is quite large in Japan, as is evidenced not only by the in-theater event but also by the shitload of doujins that have been produced for this series. Hell, T&B even got a shout out in the most recent chapter of Genshiken.

But outside Japan? Not really so much.

OP never said they used the info. Read it again.

[identity profile] ecoerrante.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh, yeah. That makes sense. I never really thought about that before, but I was always a little more of a Mr. Mistoffelees fangirl so /shrugs

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Sometimes just the idea of a pairing gets people excited. I've seen pairings out there for characters who have never even interacted.

I started shipping Amy/Rory from Doctor Who before either character was introduced.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I feel ridiculously bad for thinking that that was a picture of guy in a wig. \: But it looks like my district manager.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I don't understand why people are so unwilling to admit their personality might be the problem, not their looks.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thirded. He, like, totally gets it. And is laughing all the way to the bank.

Libraries are pretty cool. You should check one out.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Glad I grew up in the US. Lots more Asian solidarity when they can't tell any of us apart.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Totally loving that nobody sees the first part. They got trolled. They tried to get away from it. Trolls persisted anyway without letting the OP prove they got past the drama. OP doesn't tell us the severity of the trolling. Could be anything from spam to phone harassment or worse. Can you blame them for getting sick of it and turning the trolls' game back onto them?

[identity profile] dragonimp.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I must be making secrets in my sleep.

Seriously though, I've found that most people in fandom aren't too keen on concrit. It takes extra time and a lot of thought, for one thing, and most people are either reading on the fly or are reading because they want to zone out with something mindless. For another, there are sadly many people who react badly to concrit, including those who say they want it but then get upset when they receive it. I am very reluctant to leave it because of a few past experiences, even though I love getting it myself. I'm happy to have someone tear into my work, but I seem to be in the minority on that.

[identity profile] false-alexis.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
That is AWESOME.
ext_81845: the character ray person from generation kill, squinting and smiling/smirking (yeah... no.)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, but it's clear who's the oppressor and who is the oppresee here, let's be honest

[identity profile] lit-wolf.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
That's the wonderful thing about opinions and points of view: We're all allowed to have different ones.

I think the Chick is boring, dull, and way too serious (yes, it's her character but it's a little much for me) and that Elisa is over the top, hilarious, and passionate.

You are allowed to think exactly the opposite. Enjoy your own point of view and I shall enjoy mine.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I do have many close online friends. Some who have been my friends for 5+ years. But I would never share my deepest, darkest secrets with them (especially those which can be used against me) because regardless of how close they are to me, I don't really know them or what they are doing with my information.

Fair enough if you have met them IRL along the way. But friends who you never meet are friends you'll never truly know.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
MTE.
ext_81845: amuro ray from mobile suit gundam, in his underwear, from the doan's island episode (WTF?!)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Let's not go that far
I'm just saying, the only reason Korean people hate the Japanese is because the Japanese shit all over them. Doesn't mean they deserved the earthquake/tsunami, fuck

[identity profile] cactuar-tamer.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't as broadly true as people seem to think. And so many people seem to think it's true. I actually had someone from an exchange program in high school tell me that I didn't want to go to Japan, because it was "Hard enough for white people. Here, have a nice South American country instead."

Yet I can't be the only darker-complected person who has had a perfectly wonderful stay in Japan. In my case, for what is now a little over three years, not counting my time in college, where I did a semester here and one in Korea.

People don't do the changing-seats-on-the-train thing or the avoiding-you-in-the-street thing that often at all, and has been pointed out before it happens to white people too. Sure, people tend to think sterotypically, assuming I'm from India and sometimes Africa instead of "The West," and sometimes they'll assume I like hip hop, but that stuff isn't horrible, and I hasten to point out that I was dealing with the exact same stuff in America.

Sure, I'm not exactly having a ton of dating success here, but I've got major social awkwardness issues and I wasn't raking in the dates back in America either. It is really not any worse for me over here than it is for the other Gaijin.

And in a lot of ways, I'm just accepted. Random Japanese people have come up to me and asked for help with the trains, or for driving directions. I have Japanese friends in the community who like to hang out with me and treat me like a real member of the various groups I'm in. It's very easy to talk to to people, and while I haven't had ultimate success with the dating thing, it's actually going pretty well for the effort I put into it. But then I guess I'm just too dumb to know I'm not being trolled by, like, everyone around me. Any day now, someone's going to come up to me and say it was all a social expiriment.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I love everything about this secret. And, by extension, you, OP.

[identity profile] rillalicious.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I am with you all the way. Edward G. Robinson should have a whole fandom of his own.
